Does the community have any suggestions for a new name?

SMA can't be used because it's a terrible name and it's also a brand of baby milk in the UK/Europe.  Whilst some crypto people may like the SMAC name it sounds terrible from a branding perspective.

Having done a bit of research on marketing and social psychology, the best brand names tend to be single words which don't necessarily describe the product but have some aspect or feeling which the brand would like to embody.

I would suggest a single word, used on it's own without the addition of "coin" would be best (adding coin sounds clumsy and gives a limited impression - it acts as a psychological restraint and binds the concept to Bitcoin).

Update: 1st account has been acquired.

Awesome.  Let's also look at a more catchy and less druggy name.

You don't have a crystal ball, but you have to list the coins that are somehow matured. Bittrex includes almost every new coin. Let those prove themselves in smaller exchanges.
Of course, money is the key answer to that. More trades means higher income without care for customers.

Anyway, thanks for developed system that catches such things that happened in SMAC blockchain.

That's actually an interesting point.  Bittrex got to where we are today because we did things mintpay/cr/whoever didn't do.  We listed as many coins as we could to give as many coin devs a chance as possible.  That is why we were successful in dethroning some of the other existing exchanges (at least that's my opinion).

This tenet gave life to coins that still exist today such as URO, XWC, VRC and a myriad of other coins, that might not have had a chance elsewise.  It might be an argument that we are now an industry leader and have to play by a different set of rules; however, i believe if we don't continue to obsess about our customers needs, we will become as antiquated as our aforementioned competitors.

Money isn't the answer to any question btw... If you think the .25% we make off any coin is worth the work, trouble and PR damage it causes, I can assure you, that it isn't   We have done everything we can in the form of additional security checks, code reviews, and compliance requirements ( boxxa can unfortunately attest to) to weed out as much 'scam' as possible, but nothing is 100%.  If you have suggestions on things we can do to protect our customers, I'm more than happy to listen to them. Our motivation isn't as simple as money or volume; we want to continue to innovate and be an industry leader.

PS. and this is why i stay off BCT.  I end up getting don't know how to not respond to things Wink

I still don't understand how you make money!  Or indeed why you do it but I have used you from the beginning and have always been pleased with the service.

The only problems relate more to fellow exchange users (- bots drive me crazy for one thing) and obviously the market manipulations of people buying and selling to themselves that occur but I'm not sure what can be done about that sort of stuff.

It's sad that you get the grief for other exchanges failures.

Unfortunately there have been so many "thefts" which I think are the equivalent of the old scam of burning your house down and claiming the insurance money that it is hard for people to trust anyone with their coins.

I still only deviate from using Bittrex when I have to (i.e. it is an unlisted coin) and as long as you keep the security up I will continue to do so.

In an effort to not lock up funds, we are re-opening the market.  The wallet will reopen once we verify the blockchain health.  If you have a deposits/withdrawal issue, please wait till we reopen the wallet and cut us a ticket.

thanks,
richie

Thanks for getting this sorted out.  I know we give you guys a lot of flack but you have always been trustworthy and done the right thing.  It's just in these times we all have to be over-paranoid with anything we have on exchanges - many of us have been bitten before by others whom we assumed were trustworthy (Mintpal etc.)

What i think Digi need a lot of is PR and marketing. I talked with a friend who know a lot of it and he agreed that with lack of info about the coin in the media, sites and etc there is no big need to relly on the coin, cause noone knows about it. And i agree in some ways. I believe in digi, but i think the Devs need to spend money thay have not only on developing the coin but to focus on PR and marketing. Now the word of mouth is nothing cause the community is little. So we need it badly. Focus on this and more ppl will here about the coin, it's awesome advantages and etc. We need it a lot here. Cause there is no point of adding new exchanges and servises to Digi right now cause no one is trading there because they simply don't know nothing about the coin!!! So 7 exchanges and only 2 work, other 4 are empty cause ppl don't see why should they buy and invest in digi. So i would strongly advice the Dev's Team in developing a strong marketing compaign to attract more users!!! Other wise we wont go anywhere

Spot on.  That pretty much applies to any "product" really but there is no easy solution.  Producing good marketing and PR usually requires a lot of money though and most cryptocurrencies aren't big enough to pay for it.  Doing marketing/PR on a budget whilst still getting people's attention is the holy grail for business success and nobody has any easy solution because the few times it has worked (viral marketing campaigns/memes etc) it is still not really understood exactly how or why it worked.  If there was an easy way to do it everyone would be doing it and big businesses like NIKE/Apple etc wouldn't be pouring millions into conventional advertising.

I don't believe the coin is a scam.  It is more likely a false alarm on the Bittrex end.

Even if that's the case people will dump anyways unfortunately.

True people are squeamish in crypto and with good reason.  The way i look at it is if you believe in the concept then it is an opportunity to buy coins at a lower price.
1767  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SMAC - Social Media Advertising, Market Live on Bittrex! on: March 04, 2015, 08:26:26 PM
I advice not to keep large amount of coins at Bittrex, only amounts you trade at the moment. I won't wonder if Bittrex will be gone soon. Smells like that!

True I take them straight off the exchange.  Unfortunately just before the market went offline I initiated a transfer to my wallet of about 3500 coins and despite Bittrex confirming the transfer and saying it's completed the coins have not turned up in my wallet and it's been about an hour.

The Tx ID doesn't exist according to the block explorer so it is rather fishy.  Lucky the market went offline before I bought more.

It's certainly very suspicious given the fact that Bittrex haven't said a word about it, worse still there is no response to my tweet or support ticket (they tend to respond quite quickly or at least they used to).

They tweeted the info, but it says nothing in details. Indeed this coin will turn out to be scam? Then I'll be just in one coin, which is quite legit - GCN.

thats possible as security is a big deal for most exchanges now due to all previous scams at some other big exchanges.

but smac dev is online, why they dont place some kind of message here?

I don't think they were aware of it as Bittrex have only just sent out the tweet.  I've tweeted it to them and they are looking into it.

nothing wrong with bittrex, in my opinion one of the best and most trustful exchanges.

but this doesnt look good. can anyone check if ico funds are still in the same place? as a notice like this mostly means there is a change someone tries to fraud.

trex is very good with security....

They are trustworthy as exchanges go but I still don't trust them.

Only just saw the twitter status.  Well at least they are taking care to look for suspicious behaviour.  I just wish they could have waited until I got my coins off the exchange.

What could be the reason, who knows. I hate this. The scamiest coin GRID wasn't disabled even for a moment. SMAC got it in the first days. Blockchain btw is working fine.

I've sent them a ticket but haven't heard back as only been a few minutes.  To be honest Bittrex isn't what it used to be so am not really surprised - it's just odd that the market is disabled and there is no banner to say why.
1772  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SMAC - Social Media Advertising, Market Live on Bittrex! on: March 04, 2015, 07:57:20 PM
If you go to the direct link here: https://bittrex.com/Market/Index?MarketName=BTC-SMAC it seems to work even though I didn't try to trade

Did you read my last post?  I already said that.  The link works but trading doesn't.

So tried to make a trade but it is saying "Market Offline" - I wish Bittrex could get their shit together.

buying or selling Wink

Was trying to buy whilst the prices are low but looks like Bittrex has fucked it up for me.

Actually the market is still there if you go to the Bittrex homepage and click the link from there it still works, it's just the search box that doesn't seem to be able to link.

What's the reason for being disabled at trex?

At least my coins are safe and staking in wallet

Who knows.  They haven't announced anything.  Maybe they're using the opportunity to buy some coins themselves or having a "theft" which seems to be the thing for exchanges these days.
1777  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SMAC - Social Media Advertising, Market Live on Bittrex! on: March 02, 2015, 11:32:53 PM
I was gonna buy at 5000 satoshi but based on crypto analyst and experts recent evaluation it will like touch 1000 satoshi .

ABORT

LMFAO - newbie account, talking like he/she is some kind of player (the secret being that nobody is a player in crypto).  Who gives a shit what you do?  Please keep posting your infinite wisdom it is hilarious though;)  Maybe you can tell us which coin you are buying with the 0.000001BTC pocket money you got off your Mummy?
1778  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SMAC - Social Media Advertising, Market Live on Bittrex! on: March 02, 2015, 11:28:51 PM
What the hell I buy this coin?

LMFAO at these retards asking why they should buy this coin.

Why bother asking these retarded questions?  You may as well wear a dunce cap, put a sign around your neck saying "ROB ME" and then hand your balls over on a plate to everyone that obliges.

As the great Mohammed Ali said (actually I just made this up) : "If you don't don't know WHY then you shouldn't BUY!"

All the information you need is available in this thread - if something is missing then ask for it BUT don't prove to everyone that you are a complete NOOB and retard by asking "Why should I buy this coin?"

Just a note to those self-rioteous people who think that investors are a "problem" : Get over yourself.

You may live in some fantasy world where money doesn't matter or you may be independently wealthy.  Most people don't and aren't.  They are looking out for their own interests because they have to.

Cryptocurrencies whether they are DGB or BTC itself will only grow by getting more people on board.  They will not grow by people holding onto their coins indefinitely and waiting for something magical to happen.

DGB is meant to be a currency not an investment asset.  A currency only grows when people use it.

Right now the only real place to use DGB is on exchanges and that is a big problem but if those people who are currently buying or selling DGB weren't doing what they are doing DGB would already be dead.

The way to grow DGB is to get new people on board and that will only happen with new features and more places to use it.  Right now DGB doesn't have anything sufficiently attractive versus more traditional payment methods for the average person on the street.  It may seem to for those of us in the crypto-community but this is a small niche.

I speak from personal experience of trying to get friends on board with cryptocurrencies.

Most of them, even those who are technically minded, don't care.

Until we can find a way to make them care and take notice, cryptocurrencies like DGB (and even BTC itself to a degree) will remain the domain of people who simply use them as a means to make money via speculation.

Yes, I see your point now. I have seen so many of these "we need paid email" ideas I'm kinda blind to anything new. What you said makes sense but, I still think it should be researched before simply jumping in. As with all ideas such as this, there are up and down sides. As long as the "ups" outnumber the "down"s", have at it. I've been in the game since the '80s and every single "killer paid email solution" has failed miserably. Perhaps block chain technology can change that...

Exactly but I don't think there is any way to really research this other than creating an email client and putting it out there.
