5741  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What shall it profit you to invest in ico and lose established coin on: November 25, 2018, 05:01:03 PM
Investing in ICO has always been a very risky venture, the book of 2017 did a lot to cover up the flaws in most projects, and they passed for good projects as they were trading with enough volume. Most have died off now.

It's best to go for top cryptocurrencies, by market capitalization. The risks are still present buy comparatively lesser.
5742  Other / Meta / Re: Did someone noticed the new "MORE" menu in the main forum menu? on: November 21, 2018, 08:02:11 PM
I made a thread in this a couple of weeks back Dashboard Upgrade
It has been quite a while since the changes were made but i can understand why one could miss it as it didn't stand out as much. And also if you have missed my post.

The option now contains two options, you can get it by just clicking on it
5743  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: conspiracy theory on: November 21, 2018, 04:29:45 PM
There are so many conflicting reports around the current price drop being thrown around about grandiose conspiracy theory which has been crafted for years and why Bitcoin is completely controlled by a small group of people who can tank the price a my will.
The aim I believe is to create fud and panic and further nulify the decentralization quality of bitcoin in the eye of the public.
Do not succumb to panic but do your own research with available news and data.
5744  Other / Meta / Re: Beginners board on: November 17, 2018, 07:07:29 PM
A couple of top, notable members are quite active on the beginners' board. And should be credited for it.
Some I believe have been quoted to have put beginners' and help board on ignore cause of the supposed spamming going on there.

And in saying, some of the threads and topics started there are at times redundant and irrelevant and not made with the intention of growing knowledge.
But the legitimate newbies, willing to learn should (and likely would) get the needed assistance.
5745  Other / Meta / Re: Do we need to be more sensible about certain issues here before it goes far? on: November 17, 2018, 06:59:46 PM

I don't believe in a "strict rule of law"; even if it's written somewhere that "copy/paste = permaban", I'm willing to relax that on occasion. If you're going to be a net positive to the forum going forward, then I probably want you here, even if you've made past mistakes. But someone who at any point copy/pastes garbage like this has proven that they have an utterly broken mindset when it comes to the forum, and I have a really hard time believing that such a person will be a net positive going forward.

Theymos summarized the whole situation here on that thread cited.

I do not know what goes on in the private boards or how users gets penalties for their actions.
And leniency has been applied in scenarios where reputable members were involved, as mods are permitted to take decisions at their own discretion.

Also considering quality contributions, it should not solely be weiuged by number of years you've been on the forum (of course old reputable members should get credits).
But those users who stand out in the current influx of users coming to exploit the forum and actually help improve the community should also be given consideration.
5746  Other / Meta / Re: Post counts don't show? on: November 15, 2018, 09:16:26 PM
I am only able to view other members activity and merit score right next to their posts (on both Chrome and Firefox), and only on my account can I view post count also besides my post.

Is there a way to see other users post count without going to their profile?
5747  Other / Meta / Re: Post History really need to be checked + some suggestions. on: November 15, 2018, 05:10:50 AM

This raises below question on my mind.
1. Are all these newbies are really newbies? or they are banned plagiarist that are coming back again and again?
2. They know the rule but they break it because newbie is a throw way account and with all they tactics they might get lucky with 1 Merit.
3. Are'nt these plagiarist  newbies are making life of genuine newbies more difficult?

Not all newbies are newbies, some are altaccounts of established members.
Some are Jr members who got deranked.
Some could as well be seasoned cryotocurrency enthusiasts who were late to this forum.
It's a very large bunch.

Newbies are not the only account which gets banned for  pliagarism. That is the largest rank and conversely they are also the largest number of banned accounts (including nuked).

I don't see how the bad eggs affects the rest of the crate.

I personally think banned accounts should be displayed on the profiles but I doubt that would be implemented,
I think it would be useful, though not sure if it would be implemented or what the admin's stance on it is.

Yeah the developpers of the new forum told me that it depends if Theymos accepts or not , so I would to hear what theymos think about this idea Smiley

~ Madness

It's safe to assume Theymos did not accept that.
But as Suchmoon pointed out, a good post is a good post.
Regardless the situation of the user who made it.
5748  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: November 13, 2018, 03:48:26 PM
as a beginner, I totally agree with the merit system, reflecting on myself, I know more about the rules or things that need to be done

The new system does not need your agreement or approval, it rather needs your desire to contribute more to the forum.
And I went through the first three pages of your post history and they were all pyramids made in the bounty sections.

And then you make one post on meta and repeat it in another thread;
as a beginner, I really agree with the merit system, reflecting on myself, I know more about rules or things that need to be done and don't have to do

This looks very like merit begging and your content is still not adding any quality to the forum.
Take time to read. You can start with stickies this gives you a hang if the forums guidelines.
Consider posts of higher ranked members and how they achieved it.
Join conversations legitimately to help others out.
Avoid posts you have limited knowledge on. ( You can read and learn). Don't just post to attract attention.
5749  Other / Off-topic / Re: Preparation of a series of interviews with forum users on: November 13, 2018, 03:30:02 PM
How about you open slots for members who wish to be interviewed to signify, and then the community can interview them?

I feel the thread will lose interactions if the members don't answer the questions they're asked.
If you have a small group of willing members it'd be far better than a large group of indisposed ones.
5750  Other / Meta / Re: New board in altcoin? on: November 12, 2018, 09:39:17 PM
Gambling is a child board under Economy > Marketplace.
It is not under Bitcoin section, hence I think it's a general board and can not accommodate altcoins as well.

Edit: I stand corrected
5751  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: November 12, 2018, 09:12:40 PM

Also, give me some merit  Kiss

With your one line replies it's very unlikely anyone would be giving you any merits any time soon
You wrote it yourself,
It's like a reward system for posting valuable content not just content.

If you want to get merited you would have to give valuable and quality content that would be helpful to other members.
Effort is key. Merits are relatively easy to get as long as you can put in the effort into joining conversations and genuinely want to make the forum a better place.
One step at a time.
5752  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why I haven't merited some 0 merit members on: November 11, 2018, 07:37:24 PM
Am sure they would be elated when they log back in, as your merit took most of them up to Jr member rank and a couple have been inactive for weeks (probably have up)

Every member has his own unique way of awarding merits and I don't think there is a right or wrong way to do it.

Just to note, did you detect any pliagarism?
And were they reported for the mods to take appropriate actions?
5753  Other / Meta / Re: „Self made” Full member thanks to Theymos? Not exactly, but in a sense… on: November 09, 2018, 05:37:41 AM
Nice.
The Jr member demotion was actually a catalyst to spark dissatisfaction among those affected and it either made them discouraged and negative or motivated, and I for one decided to be motivated

I made a welcome message explaining my situation as I wanted to be very open this time around.

And it has paid off for me, not in your scale though which is truly remarkable, but I appreciate the little acknowledgement I have gained.
And it sure is addictive, after the one, you want one more and then another. Always new mountains to climb.
And I must confess I was getting a little demotivated and satisfied, buy your post couldn't come at a better time, time to saddle up.
Congratulations on scaling yet another mountain.
5754  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where i can buy 100 bitcoin? on: November 06, 2018, 11:51:12 AM
<  >

With a market capitalization of over $111 billion, I doubt a transaction of a 100 bitcoin would have much of an effect on the value.
But to keep it quiet buying over the counter is always an option.

And whether or not the price would go up or down depends on the amount per bitcoin s/he gets per bitcoin. A low selling price could pull the value down and a high price could push it up.

OP can try exchanges or if you're confident and experienced enough, you can go OTC. Most exchanges would require identity verification for large withdrawals.
5755  Other / Meta / Re: These turds look like they are group spamming the same crap on: November 06, 2018, 07:18:03 AM
I don't even know what "sharding" is, much less what that discussion is all about.

It's a concept I have come across in a couple of new ICOs and they claim it can solve the problem of scalability and improve throughput.

Basically is shares the information of transaction in  and only part of that information is available (a shard of it) to those involved in the consensus unread if storing all the information on the blocks this aims at lightening the load.

It can't function of POW algorithm reason why members of the forum and ardent bitcoin enthusiast would have likely not heard about it.
5756  Other / Meta / Re: Let's cure the forum together on: November 04, 2018, 11:18:30 AM
<  >

I don't quite understand what you mean by a badge for those that can wear signature. It's either you can or you can't, and as per the new rules, any rank other than newbie can wear signature (this also includes copper member newbie who can wear signature and post images)

And there are different ways of spamming, it's not a straight line, people can be clever when doing it and you won't be able to detect and same repetitive answers twisted over and again would lead to lead to a spam mega thread.
An idea would be to close a thread automatically when the discussion has gone stale and unproductive as users rarely return to their threads.

And I don't see why signature holders should be highlighted, ANY user spamming the forum is at fault, some are paid to bump threads without needing to wear signatures.

Report posts or comment you think is unhelpful or redundant and moderators would look into it, that's how we can put our hands together and maintain the standard of the forum.
5757  Other / Meta / Dashboard upgrade on: November 03, 2018, 12:26:56 PM
Just noticed subtle adjustments made to the links on the forums' dashboard.

Donations link has been removed and merged with copper membership purchasing (how to buy) on a new link,
MORE; https://bitcointalk.org/more.php
In addition to this I feel more helpful links can be added there in the near future to improve user experience.

Looks good to me, what do you think?
5758  Economy / Speculation / Re: Chart may help you predict when the next bitcoin rally is coming on: November 02, 2018, 09:08:24 PM
How much do you use charts or information like this to predict the bitcoin market?

I'm sure they are used often, although with varying degrees of success.
Reading chart is a learned skill that grows with experience. Some are more proficient in it than others.
In addition to technical analysis, foundamental analysis is also helpful in predicting the market movements.
It is if course a prediction, and when the next bull run would come may be too specific an information to deduce.
5759  Other / Archival / Re: What happens after entire minning of 21 million bitcoins is done? on: November 02, 2018, 12:36:25 PM
<  >

From your explanation, bitcoin can be likened to about every mineral resource which cannot be simply generated but resource has to be used to mine them and they have finite supply.

About what would happen when all bitcoin are mined (as I doubt there's any chance the program would be adjusted).
A limited supply, means increase in demand against supply and would be good for the value.
You see how projects like BNB use reducing supply to increase the value.
Miners would be compensated with transaction fees alone as there would be no more BTC reward.

It is not going to happen in this generation, so I'd not be too bothered about it.

I have a fairly good command of the English language.
And illegitimate could be used to refer to a dubious, illegal, against the law or spurious account.

A better way to put it would be acknowledged, or overt alt accounts and covert ones.
