1021  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What advice do you give a newbie? on: April 10, 2023, 02:24:16 PM
Dos;
• Follow the rules,
• Do more or reading than writing,
• Join discussions,
• Find what interests you,
• Slowly acquire more knowledge as you get good at the basics,
• Do more reading.

Donts;
• Do not plagiarize,
• Do not spam,
• Do not spread malware.

How is growth measured here?
The forum's metric is activity and merits which gives your rank. Merits being the most important of the two.
Your personal metric which is by far more important is how much you're learning and how close you're getting to your goal of being on the forum.
1022  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: metal wallet and metal detectors on: April 10, 2023, 10:53:17 AM
Yes, it would definitely be detected by metal detectors if you're passing through the machine.

then we should probably think about changing the hiding place or put something around them to avoid that the metal detectors find them, no?
• I find it cumbersome to carry bitcoins with you in metal wallets when travelling. You can keep that in a secure location and take a paper backup of the seedphrase with you. It's easier to travel with and not easily detectable.

• Simply putting something around them would not prevent detection.
1023  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much effort should one put into Bitcoin investments on: April 10, 2023, 10:46:41 AM
Bitcoin investments is a very promising investment which although seems to be of long term returns.most persons are not patient enough to wait till the value of Bitcoins rise significantly .
That's alright. Not many people know about different investment, not many people have have the financial freedom to invest, not many people have the patience to invest to give it time to rise.

Soo in general how much should one invest in Bitcoin should it be "how much you can easily invest without stress " or "as much as you can invest at all cost"
Never invest at all cost. Investments are meant to be done within your financial limits. When you make some profits or increase your income, you can increase your investment.
1024  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Any problems with *CHIPMIXER* coins? on: April 09, 2023, 06:54:44 PM
But it also means that any mixer could be the next target. It's not too strange if a mixer is involved in money laundering, the larger the mixer, the harder it is to judge. Who knows when they started investigating  Cheesy
Yes, any mixer could be the target, the authorities are most likely watching them all, and they are potentially at risk of getting seized, but that does not mean they are going to be seized. There was 4 years between bestmixer getting seized and chipmixer getting seized.

I agree that the bigger a mixer gets the more attention it would get.
1025  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Any problems with *CHIPMIXER* coins? on: April 09, 2023, 06:17:27 PM
After Chipmixer, a series of other mixers took the throne to replace it, do you think we will meet the same thing in the future? It's like I'm talking about something illegal, maybe  Cheesy
No, I do not think they would meet the same fate. The recent series of events shows that the government has been monitoring chipmixer for a while now, maybe since its inception and only now found a reason to fully come in for it, making it only the 2nd big mixer to be seized that I am aware of.

Other mixers are surely under the radar of the authorities, but are not at this of meeting the same fate. They are not illegal and can only be indicted when there is strong proof of illegal flow of money through them.

I was about to say the same thing. Not only is the low sat/vbyte a way to identify that it is the same wallet owner transferring between their addresses, the coins still link to chipmixer coins that are probably all linked to chipmixer at this stage.
Bitmover was trying to say that the exchanges would only scan the surface of the transaction history, maybe through an automated system and would not scrutinize all the details of previous transactions nor go too far back.

There are so many reasons for a low feerate transaction besides me sending to myself.
1026  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Suggestion to improve privacy on Bitcointalk on: April 09, 2023, 05:53:56 PM
I wonder what others with malicious intent could do with that information.
They could follow the trail of transactions and maybe discover related accounts of the user. They now have a string of addresses and have a pseudo identity linked to it. That's a lot of information, but it cannot really be used for much beyond this. You can be sent personalized scam attempts based on actions you take.
If the user erroneously reveals their real identity, they can be attacked cause it's public knowledge the amount of bitcoins they own, or as much of it that is public.

The idea by Royse777 to have the spreadsheet only visible to those who are participating in the campaign is good for privacy. Fellow participants likely can access the information, but that's a small number compared to ayonf who can click on bitcointalk.org.

[General] How to Earn Bitcoins
This is a good place to start if you're looking for ways to earn. It covers all of the ways to earn bitcoins, although some of them like faucets are no longer productive.

For how to earn a living in fiat, there can be no general guide on that. There are so many complexities like educational background, nationality, skill set etc.
1028  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Halving only 1 year away on: April 08, 2023, 10:25:31 PM
It puts it all in perspective when you consider that after the next Bitcoin halving we are just one halving away from a whole Bitcoin mining reward. It would then be a question of how long it takes before mining regards would be negligible and relatively lower than transaction fees attached to the blocks.

When the mining reward becomes much lower would that also lower the effect of the halving on the price and the sentiments of traders?
1029  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: looking for miner hosting on: April 06, 2023, 02:04:26 PM
How long do you think 1M transactions will take to get confirmed, will I cause panic to the market by launching these transactions at the same moment? ( 0 sat fee 1 sat trans value )
AFAIK, the highest number of unconfirmed transactions at one point is about 200k - 300k, if hypothetically it was possible to initiate a million at the same time it would definitely cause a panic.
But you have to get nodes to validate those transactions first and include them, such an influx would likely cause most nodes to not push hose spam transactions into their mempool and it never gets out.

At a ferrate of 0 sats/byte, your transactions would never be confirmed.
1030  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: looking for miner hosting on: April 06, 2023, 01:55:28 PM
won't other miners dump these txids because it has 0 sat fees and all of them will come to me?
Most miners would not pick of a 0 fee tx, a few would if it has little weight, but that's irrelevant to who confirms the next block.

You are still competing to confirm a block as is everyother miner.
1031  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: looking for miner hosting on: April 06, 2023, 01:49:38 PM
Yes I understand about the daily limit that's why I thought if I launch my own pool and miners to process transactions with (0 sat fees) I can process them because I am not looking for BTC as a reward I only want to confirm transactions that has no value and no fees. That won't work either?
It doesn't matter what you fill into your candidate block, your pool of miners would still need enough hashrate to be competitive with every other miner out there. To compete at that level you would need a huge capital, when you set a deadline to achieve it, the capital grows larger.

There's no separate chain for low or zero value transactions.

if that won't happen, what will happen if I through 1 million BTC transactions to market through my miners and pool with 0 sat fee and 1 satoshi in value totaling 0.001 BTC

Mainly I thought owning mining pool, miners, and adjusting the fees would fasten the transactions processing because I am not looking for profits or block rewards.
Nothing happens. The amount involved in the transaction does not determine the feerate neither does it affect what you are considering.

No, it would not fasten the process. Your miners are competing to confirm blocks so they are looking for block rewards, that's how the protocol works.
1032  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Btc mining or staking crypto? on: April 06, 2023, 11:56:38 AM
Staking is not a feature of the Bitcoin protocol. If you want to do that, you would have to give up custody of your coins to a third party and trust them to return it to you after the lock period with some interest. That is a risk I would not advice anyone to take.

I can interpret your question as Bitcoin mining or investing; and it all depends on your capital. Investing does not have a barrier to entry, you can start with as low as $50 or $100 and buy at different times when you have more available cash. But with mining you need to have enough to purchase your equipment and gear and also afford electricity to keep it running constantly to be profitable.

If you don't have a deep pocket or cheap electricity, investing is your best bet.
1033  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New virus & malware automatically empties crypto exchange accounts on: April 06, 2023, 11:51:35 AM
The virus comes from a browser extension, this is a common trick scammers use to gain access to our devices. When browsing on the internet we should adopt safety practices;
• Do not allow unverified extensions, if there's an alternative avoid them entirely,
• Do not click unverified links,
• Do not download random apps from appstores or PDF files which can contain malwares,
• Use an ad blocker to protect against pop ups.

As a crypto user the ultimate safety hack is keeping your stash off exchanges and permanently offline. This way they cannot be hacked.
1034  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How do solo miners earn on: April 06, 2023, 11:05:48 AM
is it profitable with patience?

for example if you can have 25 miners

should you put them in a pool, or create your own pool or run each miner solo

how profitable is it versus being in a pool
This depends on your total expenditure to keep your mining node running. It is estimated to take a solo Miner an average of 10 months to a year to get a valid block, this average means it could be shorter for some and longer to never for others.

If an average profit of 6.25BTC per year would be enough to keep your machines and electricity up for the duration of that time, then being patient might be worth it.
1035  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Whitepaper Hidden in every Modern Copy of macOS on: April 06, 2023, 10:52:44 AM
1. For futher PR and marketing
2. Apple products mean high security for a lot of people, bitcoin has that reputation too.
• This could be true except that it's not on every news website and was not particularly made public years after it was slipped in. Anything done for PR would have found its way to the internet quickly, sometimes it would be made out to have leaked inadvertently, but there would be dozens of news on it.

• This is a loose but plausible reason for why it was done. Maybe not a company wide policy, but the engineer behind the code might have had that in mind when using it.
1036  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: You are probably a target already if... on: April 06, 2023, 10:33:57 AM
A good airdrop can be worth ton of money. You just need to know what you are doing.
A large amount of altcoins are not good ones and a large number of people do not know what they are doing. There would be people that have benefited from airdrops at one time or the other, but in my experience it's not a net profit for the amount of privacy risk and security risk you are exposed to.

Different experiences lead to different perspectives.
1037  Other / Meta / Re: Messages for deleted posts - from 4 years ago? on: April 05, 2023, 10:12:23 PM
It's not out of place for moderators to delete posts that are several months or years old. The post is visible and as such is still under moderation regardless of when it was published.

I would rather mods prioritize more recent cases over threads which may already have been buried several pages deep. It's too much work for very little reward.
1038  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Discussion: Who is going to fill the gap of Chipmixer by the end of year 2023? on: April 05, 2023, 08:09:34 PM
Question remains, who is going to win it?
A. The ones who seems to have struggling with marketing budget.
B. The ones who seem balancing but have good reserve.
C. The ones who is showing off their wealth and may be they have a good reserve too.
Your options are bordering around who would replace chipmixer signature campaign on the forum and not as a mixer. We only get exposed to 'bitcointalk' related marketing budget and not the budget of the entire project on every website and this is not indication of the wealth depth of the platform.

Budget and cash flow is just one aspect of a project, things to consider for a mixing platform involves ease of use and navigation, reliability, reputation, mode of transactions. All of these and more would influence the choice of a mixer and we would not only have one which dominates the niche, more than one can thrive at the same time
1039  Other / Meta / Re: Happy Birthday Satoshi! The Creator of Financial Freedom! on: April 05, 2023, 07:14:29 PM
In keeping with the obvious desires of Satoshi to remain anonymous, it is not advisable to speculate on things like his birthdate, nationality, age, identity etc.

We could simply associate anything about Satoshi to Bitcoin, which would mean he or she was born to us when Bitcoin was and they would live as long as Bitcoin does, which I hope is infinity.
1040  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] BestChange Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ on: April 05, 2023, 06:02:59 PM
Even the administration of this forum considers mixers to be bad actors Smiley
We have very little information about what motivated the decision by theymos making it a reach to suggest that he thinks mixers are bad actors. And even if the admin thought them to be bad actors, that doesn't automatically make them so. We all can do our independent thinking.

Everyone has their personal opinion, same way everyone has a right to seek out privacy.
