Closing down the pool (yes, again).
Two main reasons: a) I believe bitcoin is dying a slow protracted death, with falling hashrates and falling values it's only a matter of time before it's gone entirely. b) we had server issues which led to the outage earlier on today, but believed them to be fixed - sadly not and we're now at a state where the pool server won't boot properly, and given my position on a) I'm not willing to invest any more time in fixing this and carrying on running it just to have it all for nothing in what I suspect may be a matter of weeks.
There was one block which hadn't confirmed yet, once it has I'll get it paid out. All remaining balances will be paid out.
It ain't coming back this time, thanks for the hashes over the past few months.
I do understand your position, but why all the ..."lets make these cool graphs", "maybe time for some redundancy" etc.. It didn't seem that this is the direction you were going... Oh well, I have no luck... every small pool I've joined has closed down... maybe it's me... Maybe i should join deepbit and see If I can do them the same Good Luck to you all at RFC You can always join simplecoin.us. dont mean to thread crap but in this case it might be OK. Thanks for your pool.

I had the exact same issue a few months back, and after extensive reading and help requests had to go to win7, which I hated to do. Nobody anywhere who ever raised this question seemed to find a fix.
correct.we only have a workaround. considering its a 10 y/o os i guess no one wants to put effort in finding a solution. I like xp just because i have what seems to be 100s of legit copies lying around and very few win7. the workaround seems fine for me. i keep getting top hashes with strong OCing.

so does SMPPS have some secret lucky charm that the rest of the pools don't know about? if so can we make some for the other pools?

Holy shit I read this thread wrong. I thought you were soliciting someone to beat up someone who blew you off on another trade. :\
Oh well, free bump for comic value.
I did too at first. i reread to be sure.

Hat trick! 3 blocks today. Woot!
glad i switched at the right time but its so hard not to go back with merged mining. Any hope in enabling merged mining?

Ok, upon reboot. Everything is still intact. User tables, user data, even the missing files.
I'd like to hope this is a false alarm and just a mounted drive issue. However, I'm still going to thoroughly audit everything before turning the site back on.
Sounds like a professional response. Thanks.

thank you!
hoping for the best!
Agreed, good luck. Let me know if you need any help parsing through logs, checking IPs... of course i know a lot of that is sedative data anyways, but the offer still stands. Edit: sensitive (crazy auto correct)

why the hell would someone come after this pool? we are hardly a force to be reckoned with!
I know. It doesn't make sense.

Now that I have the wallets, I shut down the servers until all blocks have confirmed. Until all the generation is complete, the funds are still at risk.
Sounds like a good plan. What type of hack was it? Not sure yet. With the machines off it is hard to tell. As best I could tell, only the main pool server was affected. Only SSH, webmin & nginx were running on that server. My ssh connection suddenly dropped, and my password changed. So I stopped SSH, rechanged the password. In that time the pool user directory was wiped clean. I grabbed the wallets and shutdown the machine. SSH was running fail2ban, so it's unlikely it was bruteforce. The security updates were up to date as well. Once I'm sure the currency information is secure I'll fire the machines back up and look for the culprit. Are password and account info ok or is it still to early to tell?

The pool server has been hacked!!!!
Pool is going down.
OH NO!! They managed to wipe the pool user directory, which included wallet backups. They did not however get to the actual wallets. BTC & NMC balances have been moved (and hopefullly were not double spent). That is good news. what about TBX and GG? were those currencies recovered?
