541  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Outdoor mining rig, worried about condensation on: August 08, 2011, 02:47:18 AM
Condensation will not normally be a problem unless an object is colder than the ambient temperature.  A mining rig should already be hotter than ambient by a comfortable margin to prevent condensation even in a humid environment.

Even non-condensing humidity is not particularly healthy, and you also have to consider increased dust and insects.
I agree, i would also consider that most computer hardware prefer the 70 degree or cooler and in the 35% rH  (relative  humidity). With higher humidity moisture can appear and dust can just stick to the parts.
542  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Black Monday?? on: August 08, 2011, 02:40:01 AM
Is black Monday referring to black Friday (the day after thanksgiving)? That would mean we will all be profitable and not in the red, or black Monday as in death and just a continuation in the decline in price.

544  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Network Hashrate down to 13.60. Any thoughts? on: August 07, 2011, 08:51:56 PM
Anyone else hoping most miners will drop out and the ones left will be around for the surge up in price?

Its been a while since we have had 13.60. Any thoughts?
547  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mining w/ two 5830s reboots system on: August 07, 2011, 03:56:09 AM
i had issues like this as well and ended up going to a 900w psu. those 5830s are power hungry especially when over clocked. i know lots og people say 600 or 700 is enough for two or the rule of thumb for btc mining is 200w per card plus 150 for mobo, memory... but for my 6 systems i needed about 250 or more per 5830. just my 2 cents
548  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 11.7 driver BSOD on: August 07, 2011, 03:47:18 AM

make sure to turn off areo. i also noticed that if i use 11.7 without dummy plugs it locks.

Deepbit down?
554  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: WTS: Bitcoin Mining Rig on: August 05, 2011, 04:33:15 PM
No offense but $1700 is ridiculous for a 2x5830 rig.

I have 2 4x5830 rigs and a 3x5830 rig and I would probably guess that the cost of all 3 put together w\ a total of 11 5830's was maybe 1700.

without specing out the rest of the hardware i would say 2 5830 rig would be in the 500 range
555  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: XFX 6990 in stock @ TigerDirect! on: August 05, 2011, 04:27:34 PM
And for future resale value, how much are you going to be able to get (as a hedge against Bitcoins crashing) for that 5850?

I'm betting should Bitcoins crash, and I need to resell my hardware because I can't make $$ from it any more, I'd maybe be able to get $20-40 for that 5850 once all the miners start selling the hardware that isn't making them $$ (think flooding the market with low grade hardware that gamers don't want).
That's a fair a point. I'd also like to point out that a 5850 can make enough to pay it's self off in around 2 months. As long as bitcoins doesn't crash in two months a 6990 is the wrong decision. Two months is a fairly small window and I don't expect bitcoins to be gone in 2 months.

I agree with this. betting on bitcoin to fail is not really what btcs are about.
556  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: XFX 6990 in stock @ TigerDirect! on: August 05, 2011, 03:35:24 PM
I guess people without or very low power concerns can use the 5830 method and those with the high power usage would look more towards the 6990s. You can build a complete rig with 4 5830s for 800ish bucks and get more than one 6990 mhash. the downside is your are "wasting" power for other parts (mobo, ram, cpu...). so if you add 4 6990s at 3000 bucks you can build 3 nearly 4 rigs for that. lets say three rigs at 1200 mhash a pop totals 3600 mhash. 4 6990s on avg will pump out 3000 mhash (keep in mind you may need to spend for an additional psu changing the equation a little). So if power is primary concern then the 6990 might be the way to go, but for myself and others power is not a concern 5830s solution is the way to go.
557  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: 11.7 vs 11.6 drivers for xp 2 or more gpus interesting on: August 05, 2011, 01:47:04 AM
Did you have xp 32bit as well?
558  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / 11.7 vs 11.6 drivers for xp 2 or more gpus interesting on: August 04, 2011, 07:40:35 PM
so i found something interesting when running 2 or more gpus with windows xp x86 and 11.7 drivers. After extending the desktop and using a dummy plug, guiminer sees both cards. i am using 6950s. I start mining with one at stock speeds 328mhash then i start with the other and the newly started video card pulls mhash from the original card. I triple checked to make sure that the second card i enabled was set to 0-1 cayman. After i uninstalled 11.7 and installed 11.6 it sent back to the way it was before adding the mhash together.

any ideas or thoughts.
