i think old hardware is relevant OP. I know a 3870 can do 168MKey/s for Dnet which isn't much compared to the 6000's but if you have it, it's paid for and why not put it to work. and yes I'm completely ignoring the electricity requirements. Hell it's better than the nvidia's that are supported heh

Good. I have sigs disabled because of the stupidly large pictures they put in there and the retarded Tradehill referral links.
QQ I'm glad people post their Tradehill link, I signed up and have my 10% off.

Hello, I have two rigs using PSU Corsair AX1200 1200W plugged into an APC power surger/suppressor. Today both of my rigs went down because the surger/suppressor stopped working. I checked the surger and the light doesn't come on anymore.
This is the second time it has happened.
Should I use one rig/PSU per power surger/suppressor?
Thanks, J
yes or buy one that can support the total watts from both systems. 1200 watts is probably pushing the circuit as well.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MTGOX SO SICK OF THEIR BULLSHiT Should start a class action suite
|
on: June 24, 2011, 08:20:31 PM
|
[Update June 24 - 02:39 GMT]
I think we should ban together to hit mt gox with a class action law suite any thoughts on anyone lost over $500 can claiim against them and they are bound by some usa laws as well as HK laws so they can be sued and for loss and profits and keeping us from our revenues,
Yeah please do go and find an attorney to start a class action against a foreign business for losses you may or may not have based on an entirely illegal action on your part (US). The laws surrounding Bitcoin mining and trading in the US have yet to be applied to users, pools and trading sites but if the Feds start seeing hundreds of thousands of dollars being generated in profits you can be sure they will turn their attention here sooner or later. As it is some idiot politicians have tried to tie Bitcoins with money laundering. Laws that are likely being violated: 1. IRS tax reporting on profits and income. 2. US Code Title 18, § 1960. Prohibition of unlicensed money transmitting businesses 3. US Code Title 31, Subtitle IV, Chapter 53, RECORDS AND REPORTS ON MONETARY INSTRUMENTS TRANSACTIONS 4. US Code TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 25 > § 514 Fictitious obligations 5. TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 25 > § 486 Uttering coins of gold, silver or other metal (a reach maybe but Feds are known to reach) 6. TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 19 > § 371 Conspiracy to commit offense or to defraud United States 7. TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 95 > § 1956 Laundering of monetary instruments The list goes on and on not to mention State charges for failing to file proper tax returns, sales tax, etc, etc. Don't forget Bernard von NotHaus. Mining is one thing but as soon as that digital coin is exchange for something of value including services it's another ball game. Your "Class action" by default would be admitting that Bitcoins have value and are currency thus the laws cited above as well as dozens more would then apply if your action was found to have merit. I believe it can be seen as a commodity and not a currency (Which govt even acknowledges it's a currency?) and as such qualifies as goods and services tendered. AFAIK there is nothing illegal about bitcoins in the US code. It's a grey area but I am sure someone could win a case through small claims court in texas. (jab at patent trolls)

I just opened a test account with you and I like the interface, but I, too, am troubled by the shameless offer of btc for propaganda.
major startups put out propaganda all the time, it's called advertisement and it huge chunk of change is spent on it. A lot of banks run promotions as well that offer 50-100$ for opening a checking account. Use to be toasters.. No affiliation with these guys just reading the thread..

don't assume you might make an ass out of yourself. Someone has already mentioned it, but the ATI HD5830 are a great little card to start off with. I'm pulling 285-300 m/hashs based on 975/350 settings with afterburner and windows 7. In Australia, you can pick them up for around $140-$150 depending on where you shop.
Here in europe we have online shops with 5830 at 99€ and they are available no not all miners are equal in speed from what I have seen. and I'm locking this from the haters and assumers maybe a programmer will be enlightened if they see this.

Maybe maybe not. Depends on if someone is doing it for fun or trying to make a profit off it. it's more about another option for a client, maybe give someone an idea on how to improve current clients. You could use your argument against the people running 2 6990's vs the people running 4 boxes+ of 4 6990's. That isn't stopping people from doing 2 5830's either. See what I'm saying? Moar options are always good and maybe it won't even be useless

Is it possible for a mod to move this to the development/technical section of the forum? I was going to post a new thread there linking back to this for more discussion on it.

I wouldn't do it unless you payed me more in USd than I had in bitcoins Seriously dropbox has been all over the news about how lax their security is. Just yesterday I read an article on them about having issues with users passwords. back it up to a cheap usb stick and lock it in a safe

I think it's important that mining is added back into the default client. While an individuals chance of solving a block would be small the overall effect would be to distribute coins more fairly. one of the biggest obstacles to bitcoins success is the perception that it is unfair and sewn up by greedy miners. Allowing everyone their chance of free coins no matter the small allows people to think of the system more like a lottery which is palatable and easily understood by the general public.
I like t think bitcoin will become the defacto standard for micropayment access to web sites and applications. rather than have each site reinvent the wheel this could be managed in a consistent way with a plug in to the client.
totally agree here. I am not a fan of having to install several things to have it actually work. I understand it's beta and I have no issues working with beta software, but going forward it really all needs to be combined. Coming from doing dnet crunching it would be ideal to have a client like that. Such as being able to choose/benchmark different algorithms.

I using CAL for mining in 5870 and 6990, and the speed is 40-50% faster!
My spider sense tell me this is bullshit I know right? I've done too may google search's for the client and haven't found anything yet. Found plenty saying 3800's don't have the hardware to do it but I think the Dnet client proves that wrong. The newbie section probably isn't the best place for this thread but it's the only place I can post for now..

thank you for helping me understand better. I looked at the source for the dnet client. It seemed very doable, maybe even borrowing heavily from their code with their permission of course. but I'm not a programmer. I using CAL for mining in 5870 and 6990, and the speed is 40-50% faster!
What miner are you using?

Hello,
I understand the 3800 ATI series can not mine. I read it was a hardware issue about a cache missing or such. I kind of understand that but .... I came across a distributed.net client that supports the 3800's and it appears to work. So my question is, if distributed.net can create a client that can access the ATI GPU on the 3800's (using stream) Why couldn't someone savvy create a mining client that will put the 3800's to work? It just seems to me if DNET can get the GPU to crunch, than it should be able to mine right?
My apologies if this is beating a dead horse. I realize the consensus is the 3800's can't mine and that is all there is to it.
