1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: April 19, 2024, 12:59:55 PM
It’s good to see this project is still alive, though it remains drastically undervalued. The world is becoming more and more totalitarian and anti-privacy. It remains to be seen whether that will be good or bad for Monero. Interesting times!
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 13, 2019, 09:23:12 PM
So recently we have been seeing a seriously strong correlation between BTC and XMR (and LTC?) and against alts.

BTC /XMR/LTC move up... Other alts move down.

BTC tanks, XMR and LTC move with it... other alts move up.

Magical Crypto Friends, indeed

Grabbed a few more at this price but it kinda really hurts.

Reminds self ...
think long term!

....retaking ATH and next ten-bagger from there (going into Halvening time...)

What are you counting as the most recent ATH? $450? So you're expecting the next ATH of ~$4500 by 2020? That would be nice, but seems unlikely.
But what do I know? I predicted $175 for New Years Day.

What do you guys think of the slow accumulation of gold by non-US central banks? It seems that they believe (as do many of us) that the dollar’s reserve currency role is unsustainable and that gold will return to its former role as sound high-powered money. I’ve thought that in light of Bitcoin and Monero the central bankers were betting on the wrong horse. Is it possible that it is we not them who are out of touch? What is most likely, a return to the gold standard, adoption of a cryptocurrency standard, or coexistence of both standards?

Happy New Year to all Monero Hodlers!

Happy New Year! And may 2019 be easier on the cold wallets than 2018. I'm tired of sleeping on the couch! Wink
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 21, 2018, 03:36:55 PM
Although last days at least to me looked like Monero is losing more then other coins, it seems reality is still old same.

Who cares? The only coin I see on that list that I wish I held off the ATH is tether--and even that makes me wonder, "How the fuck do you lose 25% when your value is pegged to $1?"

Does anyone have a tally of past xmrusd peak to trough drops? Is this the largest?
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 12, 2018, 01:36:35 AM
Amazingly, I think at least a little bit of Monero's slump today is due to what seems to be a bit of FUD executed by FAKESATOSHI.

https://twitter.com/ProfFaustus/status/1061229656081350656

He also took shots specifically at Monero in his recent interview with Tone Vays.  The interview is *somehwt* interesting as it discusses the upcoming BCHABC BCHSV fork which should be pretty interesting IMO..

But here is the Monero/Privicy coin section.

https://youtu.be/ACEUOCoVvmw?t=3564

All such announcements of some attacks are always fake. The announcement is an attack itself.  He will repeat it for few months then everyone will forget about it.

Reminds me of the BCX fud attack of 2014.

Just 3 months left in 2018. Anyone want to make predictions for the xmrusd price on 31 Dec 2018? I'm guessing $175.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 14, 2018, 02:31:05 PM
I can't remember the last time I saw this much blood in the water.

I hope all these fucking Eth shitstains go down the drain and people stop buying that crap.

Yeah, it's a weird combination of pain and schadenfreude.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: August 13, 2018, 06:49:54 PM
I'm pessimistic about AEON's price in the long term, say 5 years from now. AEON is insufficiently differentiated from Monero to have much chance of benefiting from it's own network effect.

I'd be in favor of doing something with AEON that Monero won't do, such as sticking with an ASIC-friendly approach.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] AEON [2018-07-12: update to 0.12.5.0+] on: July 12, 2018, 06:47:26 PM
Recommended update (Sophia point release 5)

How far is Monero from incorporating a Lightning Network? It would go a long way towards addressing critics’ scaling concerns. What would atomic crosschain swaps over Lightning do to Monero’s price?
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 16, 2018, 01:14:18 PM
Interesting paper on Bitcoin economics. Since Monero follows a nearly-identical PoW structure the paper can be applied to Monero as well.

https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3142022

The paper attempts to analyze and even in some cases quantify some of the structure incorporated into this famous diagram:

@smooth. How much is the projected reduction in hashpower once we do our own hard fork to kill ASICs mining? Monero lost 2/3.

Also, remember last year's surprising sudden increase in Aeon's hash power? It was not botnets, it was Bitmain testing their miners! Why didn't we foresee it?? hehe

How expediences is this decision? A high hashpower raises a cost price and, accordingly, a coins value.

More likely it is higher price that leads to higher hashpower
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 19, 2018, 12:07:12 PM
I guess one of the reasons for the price drop you are talking about is because both Bitmain and Baikal announced that Monero ASICs are comming to the market - Bitmain Antminer X3 and Baikal Giant N
Looks like a lot of people are concern about them and this reflects to the current price level of all the Cryptonight coins.

Is this true? If its then monero will get pumped hard and fall down like a crashing plane afterwards. Just like what happened to DASH.

can you provide us the link for this monero miners.? I hope monero V fork has a solution for this .

I don't think moneroV does. But monero monero does. A slight change is going to be made to the mining algorithm that will render these asics useless for mining monero.

Fishy how the timing of the MoneroV attack fork and the Cryptonote ASIC's is.  Could Bitmain and those XMV devs be all in it together?

And it's worrisome that they found some sort of 'attack vector'.  Even if this one fails, other more malevolent attackers could try it again and again, both the ASIC attack and the fork attack.

I had the same thought. The price of financial liberty will be eternal vigilance.

W0w this could be great news. They at least will be afraid of class action suits and might straighten things out over there. They would also have the ability to open a fiat portal! And we won't have to worry about an exit scam when USDT goes Boom.

Would be nice if Poloniex again allows NY customers.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 03, 2017, 02:02:36 PM
Ok...  I haven't dropped in here in a couple of weeks.  And I'm quite surprised Fluffy Pony is in here typing in all caps.  So something must def be up.

Too lazy to back read right now as I'm in a noisy bus trying to get home.  Can anyone give me the tldr version?

Someone played the conspiracy card in regards to Monero's wikipage--though I have a hunch that was to pique conspiracy minded folk enough to click on a pm that was mass executed on reddit with some dubious links--I'm sure a few noobs were baited enough to be caught in the phishing attempt.

Speculation: I think it's a variation of the reverse trolling campaigns we've seen many times before. An adversary (tptb, usual suspects, hostile TLAs, Zcash/Ethereum/Dash etc etc) seeks to paint Monero as a dysfunctional community of vandals. Mission: "Associate Monero with an air of impropriety & transgression & barbarism." Goal: Maximal accumulation of the world's only truly fungible digital cash.

Best thing to do is not make any decision on emotion....[deletions]...Every altcoin is down in relation to BTC, it's like a tsunami receding before the big wave.

Exactly. Use knowledge/wisdom/intuition to identify something valuable. Buy when the waters are receding. Laugh at how awful it feels to do so. This discomfort is a measure of the potential reward, since others will feel it too; blood is on the streets. Few can bring themselves to do this.

Hey Guys:

I'm posting this today just in case it's helpful to anyone else... odd as it may seem, in this day and age of everything being constantly 'online' I feel like some of y'all here are actually "friends", even though none of us have ever met, LOL.

I've gotten a lot of benefit from the conversations and advice here over the past couple years and want to say THANKS again to everyone for that, most of all.

Maybe it's just me, maybe just some personal reaction, but... lately... I'm just BURNED OUT.

Srsly can't cope with all this shit, what's happening in the crypto world lately.

It's just too much, LOL.  Every day some new goddamn drama and crisis and change and OMG OMG what will we do, what will happen, aaaaah  aaaaahhh Tongue

I gotta step back or my head'll explode.

Doesn't help, of course, that I sort of fucked up bad and damaged my "stack" fairly severely recently JUST WHEN things turned down after the epic RUN of ALTS this year, since around March, and as the "alts" (especially XMR after August 21st POP) recently have taken such a big HIT, just as BTC started rallying so hard ahead of all this goddamn fucking "fork drama" going on.  And FFS it's NOT EVEN OVER YET, it'll be going on STILL thru probably Nov and into Dec I guess...?  Sad

SO... can't deal, man.  Srsly.  Gotta step back... I gotta TRY and fucking detach at least for a while.

I think what I'm gonna do here is just lock down ALL my various crypto coins into secure COLD PAPER WALLETS, print a few copies and save 'em 2-3 places, then DELETE EVERYTHING crypto related from my computer and just try and STOP THINKING about this shit all day every day 24/7.

Then maybe in a year or so, come back and check the paper wallets and find it's all worth over $1,000,000... OR it's all gone to shit and totally worthless.

Whateva'... LOL

Probably won't come to THAT, probably just need a few days or a couple weeks away to get *clear* again, but... Jeez it's just too much, ya know?

Anyone else feeling like this, just wanted to post and say, "Me too, man! It ain't just YOU".  In case that helps Smiley

Anyway thanks again, everyone.  I'm sure I'll still be around reading here, at least LURKING even if "quiet".  This isn't some "goodbye" or anything like that but seriously I just gotta rachet shit DOWN a notch or two.

Best wishes to everyone, and maybe an early "Merry Christmas" and "Happy Holidays" to all... JUST IN CASE I do end up "out" for more than a couple months LOL

I feel the same way. Whether it's just the normal ebb and flow of self-interested human beings or whether larger forces or even "the powers that be" are at work is hard to say. But whatever brought us to this moment of exhaustion and peak uncertainty is quite powerful. I remember the rise of the personal computer and later the rise of the internet. Both were exciting and controversial, but they were nowhere near as mentally tiring as the crypto-wars.

On the other hand, I've never been more bullish long term. The contention and scams and psy-ops are because the stakes are so high. The world needs uncensorable digital money. Vacuums are unstable. It will happen. Probably soon.

Your approach... to just take a break and hodl... sounds healthy. IMHO the worst mistake would be to "cash out" of crypto when there's blood in the streets.

But what do I know?
