501  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: MacWallet - another bitcoin wallet app on: October 08, 2013, 01:51:48 AM
Is the wallet encrypted? Where in the filesystem is it stored?
502  Other / Off-topic / Re: Lavabit.com and Tormail Email Alternatives... on: August 21, 2013, 09:31:16 PM
Countermail looks good. . . and they accept Bitcoin. . . any opinions as to whether they are secure?
503  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Peter Vessenes: Take a step back and F*** YOUR OWN FACE!!! on: June 03, 2013, 09:50:13 PM
From http://www.cnbc.com/id/100774151:

Quote
But Peter Vessenes, chairman and executive director of the Bitcoin Foundation, was unfazed by the Liberty Reserve crackdown.

"The U.S. put out guidance recently through the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, and we've been following up on that guidance and crushing bad actors," he said in an interview with CNBC Asia. "We're seeing a bit of a sweep right now," he said.

To Peter:
Really fu**face? Who exactly have you been "crushing"?
How exactly are you "regulating" bitcoin when I can still buy and sell them without using any ID? When I can still buy and sell whatever I want with them over Silk Road?
This topic is based on a typing error by CNBC.
If you watch the video and listen carefully, you can hear him say "... they've been following up on that guidance" - referring to FinCEN.

D'oh!

Wowww...  Someone owes someone else an apology.

C'mon now... Group hug.

I listened to Peter in the video and it's definitely "they've" not "we've." Peter is just saying that FinCen has been going after those who are ignoring its interpretation of the law.
504  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has the Bitcoin Foundations' lawyer made any statements about recent events? on: May 17, 2013, 01:23:08 PM
I believe Patrick Murck works both for the Bitcoin Foundation and for CoinLab.
505  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Department of Homeland Security on: May 15, 2013, 02:40:08 AM

What are we going to do if and when it comes down to an internationally orchestrated assault on Bitcoin? What options do the people have against the power elite? I'm curious to hear what the community thinks.

We should designate a weekly open-air meeting for bitcoin trading in every city and town:

Yes, please put this on the website. . . It is very helpful.
507  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Holders Must Prepare For Mass Adoption on: May 07, 2013, 01:44:05 AM
Looking at the "penetration" of bitcoin by country, I'm surprised at how low Japan is on the list. I would think that the technophilic home country of MtGox would find the Bitcoin story interesting, especially given that it was created by "Satoshi Nakamoto."

And the new quantitative easing (money-printing) policy of Abe's government should give Japanese a strong incentive to look into hedges against inflation, such as Bitcoin.

Millies have been agreed upon for millibitcoins and Mickeys for microbitcoins.

I could get used to "millies" and "mickeys". . . although they sound a bit like street names for illicit substances.
509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why I'm switching to mXBT — and why you should too on: May 07, 2013, 01:21:32 AM
I agree. Switching to mɃ from now on. I suggest we just call these "millibits," which is easier to say than "millibitcoin".

(I finally figured out how to type the "B with bar" character in OS X Mountain Lion--need to go to System Preferences/Language & Text/Input Sources. Then scroll down and select "Unicode Hex Input" and select "show input menu in menu bar."  Then go to the input menu selector icon in the menu bar, choose Unicode, and hold down the Option/Alt key while typing "0243".)
510  Bitcoin / Press / 2013-05-03: Bitcoin vs Ben Bernanke (WSJ interview with Gavin) on: May 03, 2013, 10:20:33 PM

Nothing new to most readers of bitcointalk, but a nice piece on Gavin that portrays Bitcoin in a positive light.
511  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Bitcoin Supernode Summit Finland 9.-12. May 2013 on: May 02, 2013, 02:00:37 PM
Excuse my ignorance, but what is a "Bitcoin Supernode"?
512  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Pay With Bits Wants To Be The *M-Pesa* For Bitcoin" Sending BTCs with SMS on: April 29, 2013, 01:29:49 PM
It looks interesting, but the paywithbits website lacks basic info, like how to fund your wallet. . .
513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: finally bitcoin +12,000 fast food restaurants = mainstream on: April 23, 2013, 03:38:16 PM
http://www.grubhub.com/ is another great food delivery service in the US with thousands of restaurants in many different cities.
514  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: finally bitcoin +12,000 fast food restaurants = mainstream on: April 23, 2013, 01:38:27 AM
I've written to seamless.com (a food delivery service very popular in New York City) a few times requesting that they accept bitcoin as a payment method. They said they'd look into it. If you'd like to register your interest in this, write to suggestions@seamless.com.

517  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple or Bitcoin on: April 15, 2013, 06:22:48 PM
I've been playing around with Ripple over the past day. It's an amazing system and I think I see how it could help revolutionize payment and also create a decentralized exchange. But one concern I have is about privacy. If my wallet will eventually contain information about everyone I "trust" and how much I "trust" them, I don't want that becoming public. Who would have access to this information?
518  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - newbie - paper backup basics? on: April 13, 2013, 05:00:05 PM
The paper backup contains no information about the # of bitcoin in each address. It only encodes information to recreate all current and future private keys and public addresses. Armory uses "deterministic wallets," meaning that any time you recreate your wallet from a paper backup it will generate the identical sequence of private keys and public addresses.

Any bitcoin you add to your wallet will appear in a wallet restored from a paper backup.
519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best/Most Creative Cold Storage Method on: April 03, 2013, 02:10:26 AM
I'd like to use a 3D printer to print QR codes for private/public keys in the center of some opaque solid plastic object that would have to be broken/cut in half to reveal the codes.

More durable than a paper wallet and could be hidden in all manner of innocent-looking 3D structures. . . .
520  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The official Armory-for-OSX Bounty Thread [CLAIMED -- 25 BTC] on: March 31, 2013, 05:38:06 PM
I just got here, so I may need to go back and do some reading, but the app does absolutely nothing for me. Double clicking it does nothing, running ~/Downloads/Armory.app/Contents/MacOS/Armory in terminal simply returns... do I need to install something?

I can perfectly understand if not all dependencies could be bundled, but a little error would help me greatly Smiley OSX 10.6.8 here.

It seems to be working for me on OSX 10.8.3. At first, after double-clicking the app, it didn't appear to be working. Then I control-clicked on the "python" icon in the launchpad and selected "show all windows". . . Armory then started up.
