61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero Support on: September 25, 2016, 07:33:23 PM
I meant how to get a payment ID from my wallet. I want to send from Polo to my wallet.

You need to use the payment ID poloniex provides in order to send moneroj TO poloniex. That tells them which customer the received moneroj belongs to.

You do not need to use a payment ID to send moneroj FROM poloniex TO yourself.

You probably need a payment ID to send moneroj FROM poloniex TO another exchange or business, but that is the payment ID provided by the recipient, not poloniex.

In other news:  Due to my uncontrollable love of boats I bought @ 0.015 Tongue  If it gets to rpietilla's speculation of 0.01 that will feel like 0.001

I think rpietila was being ironic about 0.01, but I'm no longer very confident in my ability to discern internet irony.

starting to look like a reversal:  higher high, higher low, on the 5 minute, now confirmed on the 15 minute.

this may be our french weekend.

I don't know this idiom; french weekend.

You are expecting a rise?

I think so: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=french%20weekend

I just made a 5xmr test transfer from wallet a to wallet b. I am using the Monero simplewallet.

Wallet a had before the transfer 500xmr and now wallet b has received the 5xmr.

Before the transfer the wallet a was
Quote
Balance: 500.000000000000, unlocked balance: 500.000000000000, including unlocked dust: 0.020000000000

After the transfer the wallet a has
Quote
Balance: 494.980000000000, unlocked balance: 490.000000000000, including unlocked dust: 0.020000000000

The wallet b is after transfer
Quote
Balance: 5.000000000000, unlocked balance: 0.000000000000, including unlocked dust: 0.000000000000

Which is fine.

But the wallet a. Balance is just fine. 500xmr minus 0.02xmr fee is 494.98xmr.

But what is this unlocked balance 490xmr? Why 10xmr less?

That dust has been there already. I do not know why. But what is that unlocked balance? How it is now 10xmr less?

I don't know the precise explanation, but if you wait a little while, your full balance will be unlocked.

Every time I looked at mymonero I kept saying I've seen this image before but from where?

https://mymonero.com/#/  Not the fake scam site.

http://www.stargazercastiron.com/  Great cast iron skillet if you are into cooking with one by the way.  I had ordered one of these several months ago and  kept getting that "why does this look familiar" feeling when I would log into mymonero.  Finally this morning the synaptic pathways linked up and I knew why.  Scammers are smart and will do anything to get over on someone or steal, but they can all rot in hell as far as I'm concerned.

lol I had no idea, it was just a stock image that looked cool:)

Sorry to hear the bad news birr. It sucks man, I've been a victim of thief's before I can empathize. For what it might be worth I will say a little prayer for you.  What goes around comes around and these assh*^$ will get what is coming to them.

Agreed - it's seriously upsetting and damaging both for the victim, and for me as the site operator. I can only hope that other people take heed and move their funds into cold storage, the web wallet is just for convenience / playing around / smaller amounts.

Maybe Fluffypony could put a warning up on the home page to check the URL before logging in.

Did that the minute I found out about the fake site:

It unfortunately doesn't help if people visit the .co first:/

My bank had me choose one image (out of several dozen) and thereafter displays that image on the login screen, giving me confidence that it is really my bank's website I'm logging into. Would something like that work with MyMonero? Also, of course, two-factor authentication would be fantastic. I think Trezor now can be used as a login token.

Nanobrain, do you think Monero will be embraced or at least tolerated by China? Why or why not?
67  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: MONERO.ORG domain name and website for sale. on: September 06, 2016, 08:08:39 AM
Greetings,
I am an early Monero user, not mined much but I like Monero since its early days. I promoted it as i could with my website http://monero.org, i told my friends about Monero too. But now it is time to give it away. And i want to sell my http://monero.org website. I will accept Monero as a payment and i would like to make this deal with escrow. I would like to make an auction here, start price for community is 10000 XMR. I believe this is a very cheap price for the coin with about 200mln$ coinmarcetcap.
I would like to hear suggestions from Monero community.

Sale: http://monero.org website and domain name.
Start price: 10000 XMR.

Please, no spam here.

How can you prove that you own the domain?
68  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: FreeBazaar - OpenBazaar with Monero on: September 04, 2016, 12:04:49 PM
Honestly, in as much as I think that a monero version of openbazaar is a very good idea (it would even be better on I2P), as long as monero has no multisig, this is a useless thing in my mind.

The whole point of openbazaar is that you can use multisig escrow.  Otherwise, you can just have your hidden service on TOR or your webpage on I2P, announcing your stuff.

Multisig is coming soon with RingCT.

BTW, I requested and received a 50% refund of my donation about a month ago.

70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: September 01, 2016, 01:05:01 PM

I believe the development team sometimes add features to Aeon first before adding them to Monero making sure that they are stable and useful.

As far as I know that has never happened and AEON is NOT a testbed for Monero. In fact in the near future it will be the exact opposite. Aeon will integrate stuff developed and tested in Monero (lmdb and GUI at least, don't remember if ringCT).

This project was picked up by smooth alone (after the former dev closed shop) and although there is some overlap in the community, the Monero Team has no official ties to AEON.

AEON's hard fork to change block intervals was a testbed for Monero's similar hard fork.
71  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 27, 2016, 01:13:53 AM
I have a hunch that they will release the gui wallet sometime before Monero trading on AlphaBay begins on Sept 1.

Soon..

Well that might be icing on the cake as far as price rise.  Looking forward to the GUI myself.

Not happening before Sep 1.  I will ride the NYC subway naked if the GUI is released before Sept 1st

LOL quoted for posterity.

For maximum marketing publicity, please use a Sharpie to write adverts/slogans for Monero on yourself before being arrested.   Cool

Moonero?

Even when Zcash arrives I'd distrust it as a long-term store of value, because of the setup issue (an irresistible temptation for TPTB).

Its not usable transactionally either from my PoV: The implementors are not to be trusted.

Was trying not to go there but fwiw: I agree.
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 24, 2016, 12:54:09 PM
...getting into deep thoughts about XMR actually replacing BTC in 4-5 years

Why, in the name of all that is holy, would anyone use bitcoin and expose themselves to extortionists, kidnappers, and thieves (governmental, NGO, and freelancers), when an alternative exists?  XMR is now the single most liquid alternative.  The market, through the mechanism of price, will act to insure that there is enough liquidity to meet demand.

Even when Zcash arrives I'd distrust it as a long-term store of value, because of the setup issue (an irresistible temptation for TPTB). Monero (plus a Lightning Network layer and a Zerocash or Mimblewimble sidechain perhaps) will be the best trade-off between privacy, scalability, and decentralization.

Do you think Monero will rise to 1000 usd/xmr? How realistic you guys see it reaching 1000 usd (assuming btc is more or less the same as today)?

I think it has more chances than bitcoin going to 100k, they sure are small but its not zero, the fundamentals are just too strong... decentralized true electronic cash for the first time in history.

I think we'll see both BTCUSD >$100k and XMRUSD >$1k by 2027. Call me an optimist.

Trading range has been 95+% from 1.80 to 2.20 USD, for a fairly long while.  I doubt it can go as low as 1.80 any longer, though.  That would take us all the way back to lows last seen...yesterday...which would be too terrible to contemplate, and hence impossible.

Every time people start to issue such frothy statements and want to believe in them, the end is near. This so reminds me of the situation in Bitcoin in late January 2013 when $16 was breached and therefore a new 1.5 year high was made, beating the Pirate high of previous year, and people believed it could never go to the trading range of $5-$10 again.

Remember, just remember what happened and do not get sucked to the hype.

Great point in general, but in this case I think aminorex intended his remark to be taken ironically. 😉

Well my attempt seemingly failed  Roll Eyes

Touché!

If Polo won't commit to them, I will be finding another exchange and encouraging others to do the same.

Centralized exchanges have their role and finding another one may the right call for you, but either way I would still encourage trying to build liquidity on bitsqaure. I've had offers on there at times but I was often alone on the order book and didn't get any fills. I'll continue to list when I have the opportunity to do so.

How solid is the Bitsquare platform?  Does it rely on "smart" contracts?   Tongue

How long until it supports advanced features like margin trading?

Is there a testnet version to try out?

Once Bitsquare is somewhat comparable/competitive feature-wise, I'd be happy to offer some XMR there at a discount, to coax volume away from the morally hazardous exchange under the command of ETH Fed Chairman Vitalik "Helicopter" Buterin.

I was playing around with Bitsquare. Seems pretty solid. My problem is that I can't bear to part with any BTC or XMR.  So it's hard for me to thoroughly test! 😉

I've never quite understood what's in it for the market makers who provide liquidity. How profitable is it to provide liquidity? How risky is it? Does it entail spending time and energy staring at tickers and charts, or just running a bot? Can such bots be exploited by other market makers? Huh

"The Secret Behind CryptoWall’s Success" (the ransomware)

http://www.imperva.com/docs/IMPERVA_HII_CryptoWall_report.pdf

Quote
1.1 Key Findings
1. CryptoWall 3.0 payment infrastructure can be traced
a. Bitcoin wallet analysis can be done to trace the cyber criminals profiting from the ransomware

The tracking Bitcoin part starts from page 8.

EDIT: Most striking figure in my opinion:

Too bad the NSA and FBI have been unable to find and punish these cyberterrorists. We need to double their budgets immediately. (Interesting these sophisticated criminal mastermind virus devs don't see any point in an opaque blockchain, as if they are unworried about law enforcement.)
