Can/should "threshold" signatures be implemented in Monero? (See http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2ycfh4/threshold_signatures_for_bitcoin_wallets_are/)

kinda similar page on moneroeconomy.com

https://moneroeconomy.com/openbazaar

And "working coin as transaction currency". - it works. I've transacted.
It's full of spelling errors. Who runs this page?
I want to contribute by correcting some of them.

I'd guess it was written by Atrides since he's the one working on the monero-compatible OpenBazaar fork and English is not his primary language.

We're mainly interested in an improvement in overall complexity, and both schemes here are O(n). There is a sublinear ring signature paper that in O(log n) in size that we're looking at more closely.

Good to see your name in this thread, TT. Monero is in good hands.

Selling my 5000 XMR mintpal account .

PM offers or skype me: thestatdude

Man I'm sorry.  They said XMR withdrawels would resume soon ...

Moolah seems to be MIA: https://twitter.com/MintPalExchange/status/523939006988701696

Mintpal said that Ryan has control of the funds. But this sounds like money to me and not all tokens. I do believe they sent out some tokens, not BTC though...
A decent chunk of money for me is there. I honestly would never have put the funds there if I had been able to get the wallet installed on my MAC but it
has been a headache for me. Then again, I would have bought more XMR had I been able to install the wallet (and the price has gone down since then)...
Looking forward to the GUI (with .dmg installation  Grin )
Sad to hear that, but why did you choose for mintpal instead of poloniex? Liquidity of poloniex is ten times better.. I agree that installing the current wallet is a real pain in the ass. But hopefully tonights missives will bring some updates!

Yeah, the irony is i literally put that on mintpal as a hedge to poloniex scamming/shutting down, i never once traded there, thought V1 sucked.

I did withdraw about 1,000 to HITbtc right before V2 and thought about moving the whole wad.

Oh well, i knew better than to leave any coin on ANY fucking site. XMR was the only one i left anywhere because all the explanations to backup to paper wallet were quite technical and I hadn't set aside time to figure it out yet (but was planning to).

Trust me, I'll be moving the rest of my XMR off-line tonight.

Here's statdude's post on his xmr at Mintpal. . . hope he's been made whole!
266  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 02, 2015, 02:26:33 AM
just multiply your own max position by 1000 and think what happens  Grin )

But don't worry, it's not this week or month, I hope...

That's more XMR than will ever exist !!  Shocked

LOL  I wonder how many 5-6 figure holders there are.  What happened to statdude?

I haven't seen statdude here since shortly after he had a significant amount of btc stolen from blockchain.info.  I believe due in part to a compromised email.  He had a thread about it and although others seemed to know what was happening, I as usual was clueless.

If I remember correctly, he lost most of his XMR at Mintpal. . .

Anyone have a tl;dr for Adam Back's post on ring-signatures: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=972541.msg10619684#msg10619684

Edit: here's his tweet: https://twitter.com/adam3us/status/572009705876271104

Edit2: I should have asked for an ELI10 rather than a tl;dr.

sent another 1500 xmr; payment id cf845280f95104ddb8ad87a8e7f7a1cdc095d6e8448599d02000454d93d274b1

total 2500 xmr, I think (though I didn't make it to the new site)
269  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will it hit $1000 again? on: February 25, 2015, 11:48:02 PM
Never before BTC failed to reach the former ATH, no matter how big the fall and even if it takes some time.

I doubt it will be different this time
That is an interesting observation. However it does not take into account the level from which the price started. Starting the bubble from $1 or even $ sub1 is much easier than from where we are right now. In other words: growing say 100 fold from nothing to $100 a coin is relatively easy, growing another 100 fold is not.
It really would not be that big of a deal for the price to go up another 100 fold. The issue is that there are few sources of money that could potentially cause the price to go up that much. The last bubble was likely the result of hedge funds trying to buy up a lot of bitcoin, but I don't see any similar source of buying

There are many many hedge funds and other institutional investors that have not yet dipped their toes into Bitcoin.

next wave of investments will be towards bitcoin blockchain tracking and analytics for sure...

err.. this is getting a bit obvious now, to not say ridiculous: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2uin7s/former_nsa_intelligence_agent_raises_nearly_1/

r/bitcoin, "But I really, really, really want Bitcoin to be anonymous. Did I mention really?"

Bitcoin and Monero will play the Good Cop and the Bad Cop, respectively, for the global oligarchy, and vice versa, for the rest of us.
272  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: February 01, 2015, 11:43:04 PM
Confirming that I'll be attending the Satoshi Roundtable. It is a private (and originally rather secretive) event ...

Avoid saunas at all costs!
Breeding ground of thieves, spies and communist saboteurs...
O, that way madness lies; let me shun that; No more of that.
At a sausage fest? That's the least worries.

Rpietila's (unencripted, with wallets on it) laptop allegedly got stolen from a sauna, where he was presiding over just such a sausagefest.
That's what set off his descent into totally-not-insanity & consequent institutionalization.
He's, of course, totally all better ... now that the antipsychotics have worn off.

Have you forgotten your ban from the thread?

Yes, if I actually was mad, I would probably be hesitant to tell about it in the public forum. But if the police intercepts me on my way to the San Jose bitcoin conference and instead of jail (which is a pretty easy place in Finland) throws me into a mental facility with forced medication and refuses access to lawyer (or anyone else for that matter), I am truly pissed off.

Psychosis is a medical condition that includes a distorted perception of reality. Merely that you can do extraordinary things, or extraordinary things happen to you is not psychosis. Unfortunately it's not part of the training of the medical professionals to check if the client is speaking the truth, they only assess if it sounds credible. Of course it does not sound credible that I have $100,000s worth of some magic codes open in my computer, which can be stolen without trace so that I can't even know if they are stolen or not. Nevertheless, that is the truth. Next time I will be more merciful to them and not be so careful about the truth since it only gives trouble to both me and them. To each his own.

Make up your mind, the establishment is right and they have every right to harass me whenever they see fit and I am a nut who deserves to be harassed

OR

There is something else to it.

Risto's thousands of posts on this board evince a much higher ratio of sense to nonsense than all but a few of his detractors. Medicine is an imperfect science, and psychiatry is the least reliable branch of medicine. There are many examples of psychiatry being misused to serve those in power.

If I use openalias to pay example.domain.com in simplewallet, doesn't my IP address get stored in some time-stamped log on the domain.com nameserver? Anyone who hacks or subpoenas the nameservers could learn who paid whom, right?

Maybe.  There are some name servers that claim not to log, though you can't really verify this. Also, in most cases your request goes through intermediate name servers (at your ISP, or google, or some such).

However, for maximum privacy you probably don't want to use this feature.

Thanks for the clarification. When i2p is integrated, will openalias be useable without exposing ip addresses?

Use this command line parameter "--restore-deterministic-wallet" with simplewallet.

In a different folder or computer restore your original wallet from the old seed words which you hopefully wrote down when you created the original wallet.

****Posted on Reddit as well****

Created a simple wallet about 6 months back and exchanged some bits for monero on Mintpal. I withdrew from Mintpal to the wallet I created. I recently updated home brew on my Mac and fixed some library links, entered my simple wallet name and password and up pops my public key with a zero balance. The seed is different though, which makes me think I may be ok just lost in translation on my part. Any tips on what I should do at this point? Thanks in advance.

Please pardon my ignorance but how do you restore?  All I see is the option to type in an existing wallet name and passphrase or "one will be created for you."

Two more questions:

1. How do you use the command line parameter? when opening simple wallet the first thing it asks for is the wallet name. After that it asked for the password. How can I get to the command line parameter from without simple wallet?

2. Should spaces be used between the 24 seed words?

Thanks

You usually type "simplewallet" to start the simplewallet program, but to restore from the seed words, you type: "simplewallet --restore-deterministic-wallet" (don't include the quotation marks).

You will be prompted to enter the seed words. Enter them in the correct order with spaces between words.

279  Economy / Speculation / Re: Winklevoss launching "Gemini" serving bitcoin to wall street on a golden plate on: January 23, 2015, 09:59:03 PM
Does the fact that the Winklevosses are setting up an exchange suggest that their ETF application is not going to be approved? A fully licensed and regulated exchange could serve as an on-ramp for institutional investors.

From their blog:

Quote
Over the past two and a half years, we have spent a great deal of time educating ourselves and others about Bitcoin; investing in bitcoin; investing in Bitcoin-related companies; filing an S-1 registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission to create the Winklevoss Bitcoin Trust (an ETF focused on bringing bitcoin investment exposure to main street investors) which will list on NASDAQ; and launching a bitcoin price index called WinkDex that will price our ETF (online, iPhone, Android).

Interesting. Should we take that literally or as optimistic boilerplate?
