441  Economy / Economics / Re: Vitalik Buterin's Financial Advice on: January 24, 2024, 09:21:48 PM
Most of these advice are pretty common and are just normal advice that you can get from other successful people as well. It's just that it's coming from a voice that has proven a lot of things and have backed most of his works with something. I'd rather listen to him who has done something rather than from someone who I don't know much about.
442  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: New transaction accelerator on the market - mempool.space on: January 24, 2024, 03:49:00 PM
Just happened to see this new service on mempool myself and of course, arrived here on the forum to see someone saw it almost 2 months ago. As others note, the price is actually really dependent on your tx and current fee rate.

Yesterday, I sent out an unusual (for me) tx (Segwit, lean, several outputs), costing just under 10000 sats at mempool's "high priority" fee rate. RBF-ing myself to bump up the rate to 10% more was only several thousand sats but Mempool's fee was 40k sats for that. So about 400% on top of the fee paid. It was as if, despite the tx already at what they considered to be a high priority fee, they insisted to bump it up much, much higher.

Take it as you will, I obviously would need to look at many more tx fee to make a good comparison. I just feel they don't really optimise.

I guess they just take the highest end of the spectrum and decide to use that as their basis for fee bumping to get the tx confirmed and not base it on the lowest fee possible to get the tx in the next block. That's lazy acceleration, and I understand that people want to gey their tx confirmed in a timely manner during the busy times, but it seems that I'll stick to Antpool's service if this is how high they put their fees to be.
443  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can a social or casual good guesser make better gambling prediction carrier? on: January 24, 2024, 02:37:10 PM
Guessing is not the same as analysis. There are games wherein you have to be analytical and know how to read between the lines before locking a bet. Sometimes, people are too comfortable on their luck that they just base everything in gut feeling and odds in face value. This does not always go to plan and a lot of times you are just wasting your money in betting blindly.
444  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is your state on mind if your son stole your money to gamble? on: January 24, 2024, 06:46:05 AM
The truth is, the mother was disheartened because the money went to waste. But if that money turned out to be something more than what it initially was, I guess a little scolding will come after but she will still forgive her son and take some cut from the winnings. This is what our society has become, unfortunately. A lot of us no longer value honest work and will jump straight to judging and condemning without trying to see things from a different perspective.

What the son did was wrong. He should be scolded and taught a lesson for that, but not go so far as to humiliate him in front of other people because this will only keep him pushing towards the wrong direction.
445  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you preffer your dealer talkative or not? on: January 24, 2024, 06:13:33 AM
I've been watching live poker tables for quite a while now and I'm actually hooked to tables wherein dealers interact with the chat. It feels like you are in the same room with them and the atmosphere they provide is somewhat welcoming, sometimes luring you into buying for a slot in the table. There's a limit to the talkativeness that I can tolerate, though. If they became extra chatty that it's no longer soothing or relieving the tension but rather just adding to it, that's the time that I'd leave the table and choose another one that just has the right tempo and atmosphere.
446  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Transparent dices ? on: January 24, 2024, 04:14:57 AM
Most of the physical casinos I played on uses high quality dice in their table games. They are mandated and regulated by a board that directly audits and inspects the machines and equipment they use for their games. If this isn't done then they will surely get sanctioned or worse, ordered to close because they are not compliant with the regulations that are put in place to make sure that they are not cheating.

Transparent dice seems a good idea though, but if it's made out of materials that can easily be controlled, e.g. metals, you still can't be too sure whether these dice are not an element of cheating or not.
447  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: While placing bet what comes your mind on: January 23, 2024, 09:22:13 PM
Physical casinos are overseered by regulatory boards, and it's highly possible that they are being audited every so often just to see whether they are compliant and no cheating is going on. They would immediately be shut down if there are anomalies in the machine that they are operating, at least here in our country. Inspections are also regular, so you can be sure that they are really keeping things in check.
448  Economy / Economics / Re: The 150 year old maths and logic theory on the best period to make money: on: January 23, 2024, 03:54:28 PM
It's important to also keep present economic conditions in mind and not just believe blinfly on these predictions even though it predicted a lot of things accurately. They don't have the means to know the economic conditions of the present times, and that has since rapidly change when this theory was published. Nevertheless, props to the creator for going balls deep on logic and maths alone and get almost everything right.
449  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: While placing bet what comes your mind on: January 23, 2024, 02:26:29 PM
There are times when I doubt whether I placed the right bet or not. I always check and re-enter my betting amounts whenever I do a bet because there's that one time wherein I accidentally placed $100 instead of $10 and that bet ended up losing. It wasn't a pretty scenario , and it made hyperaware of my betting amount since then because I was trying to make something and not lose it. If I were to do it again, I'm pretty sure I'd lose my shit and just stop betting altogether  Cheesy
450  Economy / Speculation / Re: Self control cannot be neglected as an early investor on: January 23, 2024, 05:15:25 AM
You will eventually grow out of your wants and desire to build something better.

I was in a similar position about a decade ago, constantly buying the shiniest and greatest gadget money can buy from my paycheck. Investing was never in my vocabulary, and I was just getting started with bitcoin. Then come 2016, I eventually settled with a 1-year-old flagship phone and started buying bitcoin seriously. When I realized my potential gains, I never looked into buying the greatest gadget again, and just continued stacking up my buys until the bull run of 2017 happened. I was able to start a small business and continued reinvesting and then I'm here, a man in his early 40s already set for life in a country where the cost of living is lower compared to other countries.

It took me years to get rid of my bad financial habit, although I was able to achieve it thanks to my determination and grit. That game you're talking about? You'll grow out of it in a few months and you'll be left thinking about what you could have done with the money and try to make up for it by being serious with your DCA strategy.
451  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: AMA: I Operate an Online Casino on: January 23, 2024, 03:28:36 AM
I only have one question: what do you think of big names in the crypto gambling industry that operate without any licenses such as bustabit? Are they automatically in the radar of law enforcements of the countries they serve in because they are operating without any official licenses? I'm still confused as to how a license affects the operations of a crypto casino since these guys are operating for too long without one but are still compliant to KYC/AML regulations.
452  Economy / Speculation / Re: Ultimate Lazy BTC/USD Price Prediction on: January 22, 2024, 09:27:26 PM
I commend the honesty that you know you won't be 100% correct. There are other analysis posts out there that always overanalyze things say that they have most of their predictions 100% correct when in fact they sometimes get it wrong, yet they still defend their positions by using old predictions that went right.

Following this thread just to see how it develops. I am a lazy trader too and bite sized analysis makes sense to me, at least.
453  Economy / Economics / Re: In times of Crisis and uncertanities toilet paper can be new currency on: January 22, 2024, 09:15:31 PM
There'd be a huge concern if people are desperately looking for food and clothing rather than toilet paper.

You can always make do with bidets or water if you can, but you can never cheap out on food or fall short with it as you will be depriving yourself with nutrients and other essentials which are important for you to function. Hygiene is impprtant, but then again there are still other alternatives to keep you clean, and not just toilet papers.
454  Economy / Gambling / Re: Why they need a license if bitcon is not money? on: January 22, 2024, 02:23:43 PM
Those that operate til now without licenses are in the game for years, and basically they don't need any piece of paper from any governments to appear legitimate. These new casinos getting licenses on Caribbean tax havens are doing so because they want to appear 'legally compliant' and make it look like they are not going to run with your funds because they are licensed. At the end of the day though, it's still a matter of choice on whether to play on unlicensed casinos or not.

There are a lot of licensed casinos out there that can't still serve lots of countries. Roll Eyes
455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: [HOW-TO] Export Bitcoin private keys (in WIF) from Bitcoin Android (schildbach) on: January 21, 2024, 05:03:34 PM
Reviving an old thread. I tried doing the steps HCP and exiledotome laid out but I get the same message as jonathan. Doing this in Windows 10 with all the prerequisites installed. Also, upon decrypting the file (tested it on a newly-created wallet), it does not show me a text output but rather a bunch of symbols that are quite unintelligible. I was hoping I could just get the encrypted file decrypted and do another approach.

I'm pretty sure I followed all the steps correctly, but not too sure why my decrypted wallet file seems different than what you guys are seeing. Huh I was expecting to see strings of text but that doesn't seem to be my case.

EDIT: managed to restore my wallet to electrum. This guide has been super helpful, especially the derivation path mentioned by HCP. It's important to note that people should do this in a machine that is not connected to the internet, and deleting the files generated by the process after you have successfully restored your wallet to electrum or any wallet of your choice just in case.
456  Economy / Economics / Re: richdad poordad has no more guide after achieving freedom on: January 21, 2024, 04:47:25 PM
Well, I'm pretty sure that that book gave insights as to how to move from there after surviving the rat race. The gist is once you get out of the chains of a 9-5, you have to make your money work for you somehow. Investing in something is a good start, and getting a financial adviser is always good if you already have deeper pockets than before. I honestly love that book because it taught me the principles and the basics, and I know it's up for me to figure things out once I started figuring making some serious money.
457  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Patience can help alot on: January 21, 2024, 03:17:47 PM
Most gamblers are very eager to make money and are impatient in doing so. Some of them purely cling on their luck and are not trying to approach gambling in a very smart or even careful way. Lots of them do rage bets when they encounter a losing streak, resulting into their balance's demise very early when they could have played the long game and tried to take things slow. I myself am sometimes guilty of this, although thankfully that barely happens as I just play casino games for fun now.

Trying to take things slowly and approaching it with a plan is a lot more helpful in the long run.
458  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Motosport General discussion tread --- Formula1, MotoGP, WTCC, ETCC, DTM..... on: January 21, 2024, 09:38:48 AM
Alpha Tauri will change theri name, their social are already gone.

the new name could be Visa CashApp RB team

Source: https://www.formulapassion.it/motorsport/formula-1/alphatauri-addio-ecco-il-visa-cashapp-rb-team

I want to write something independent of the name change. The Americans have been jealous of F1 for years and have started to take revenge. It started with the new logo. Then the ridiculous tracks, the sprint races, the fake drama created by dts, and a fan base that didn't have a clue about the new sport. Americans have a really strange form of entertainment. Most of it is based on fakery and mediocrity.
The F1 teams are happy right now because of the profits, but it's not all about profits. F1 has never been so far from its soul. I miss the real F1. Constantly changing rules, environmentalism, vacuum cleaners called v6 turbo hybrids, the American-Arabian mix of liberty and drs fetish has killed the sport. The names of the dominations have changed. Actually the real F1 is completely dead after Brazil 2012.

Ah, it was actually dead far before that. 2006 was the last time V10s were used and holy hell the sound of those engines is what started my liking to any motorsports. V8s were kinda okay and they still somewhat resemble some form of 'screams' on longer straights. When the transition to V6 started, I kind of felt that there's something missing in these races. Lots of regulations after that which focused on fuel economy, 'safety,' and just working not directly on the engine but the technology on the car to go faster. It's still okay to watch F1 races every now and then, but it's just not the same after the V8s were retired IMO, and I agree with you that it became boring after 2012.
459  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin acceleration services - Fee comparison on: January 20, 2024, 07:28:05 AM
That's stupid on my part to include dust on the transaction. Even ViaBTC's free accelerator won't accept this transaction in their service. It may even take a month or two before this transaction gets confirmed, or I might have to accept defeat and get a paid service accelerate it for me and just blow whatever remains of that $100 transaction.
You don't have to use an accelerator for your transaction.
The fee rate you used for your transaction is below the purging fee rate of any node with default mempool size. This means that there are many nodes that don't have your transaction in their mempool.
You can import your wallet into electrum, try connecting to different servers until you find a one that doesn't have your transaction in its mempool and then make a new transaction.

The thing is, this wallet is Bitcoin Android Wallet which cannot be imported to another wallet as far as I know. I tried looking for other methods to import the private key to another client but with no luck. I was already on to it when I realized I screwed up but lo and behold, this particular wallet is a hermit that does not want to outgrow its own shell, hence why I rely on rebroadcasting the tx and looking to get it accelerated for a fee eventually.

EDIT: This has since been resolved. I managed to follow the steps in this topic and restored my wallet to Electrum.
460  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🕹️ Esports 🎮 Prediction & Discussion Thread on: January 18, 2024, 11:31:00 PM
ESL released a statement about DOTA TV and streamer guidelines. If someone doesn't know what it is? The main stream of tournaments like for ESL tournaments should only be watched on ESL main streams on Twitch.

But what happened is that there are other streamers that sets a watch party and watches directly on those ESL streams and streams that on their channels.

Here's their statement --> https://esl.com/dota2/community-streaming-guidelines/

This has been going on for years, and it seems that they really wanted to take all of the profits and not share it with other streamers who sometimes provide a lot more insight in the games that are streaming compared to the ESL casters that, on some occasions, are just blabbering around and yapping that are not related to the game whatsoever. Well, it will eventually happen though. Just imagine how many thousands of viewers these individual streamers are getting from the ESL main streams that it hurts them revenue-wise.
