941  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Paytunia Bitcoin wallet released today! on: April 08, 2012, 05:08:37 PM
@jan

Please, let people decide wether they prefer secure hosted keys or on-board mobile keys: the risk profiles of each solution are different but none can be said better than the other in absolute terms.
942  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Version 0.6.0 released on: April 05, 2012, 04:49:17 PM
I wonder what is the criteria to become "whitelisted" ?  (one must have been angry for the past six months ?)

@gavin and team:
thanks and keep up the good work, you guys are outstanding!
943  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Paytunia Bitcoin wallet released today! on: April 05, 2012, 03:59:28 PM
Seems like it's already on the Android Market.  I guess the beta is just for Iphone?

So since I have an android, I don't need the Beta.  Sorry for the unnecessary ticket.
No problem:

The mobile light client is available on Google Play (formerly known as Android Market) for mobile phones from version 2.2 and up (that is 9 Android devices out of 10).

944  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Magazine on: April 05, 2012, 03:51:04 PM

Are the comments on the article not working?

No they were not, they are now and I just cross-posted there, humbly awaiting moderator's approval and strangling kittens just to stay cool .
945  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Magazine on: April 05, 2012, 11:41:03 AM
I stumble upon a "review" of Instawallet by Vitalik Buterin inb the magazine: it s very opinionated about the service we are running for free at our own expenses by stating it is "the least secure ".
Based on what and compared to what ?
Has there been a single occurence of fraud with instawallet.org ? None.
Adding an s to suggest with " instawallets" that this service is generic equates to condemning us to stand for any service ressembling ours failing in any manner for any reason.

In short, why send missiles on a website that is just trying to provide one of the easiest way to step into the bitcoin economy ?

This is not the best way to make newbies comfortable about using bitcoin.
946  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New VISA monthly merchant fees. Why Bitcoin is Better. on: April 04, 2012, 10:25:39 PM
Interesting
I suppose this how we get a combined valuation of roughly 100 billion USD for Visa/Mastercard.

But, wait..the projected valuation of the bitcoin network is what ? 100 million today; That puts the above numbers on a slippery slope, doesn't it ?
947  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Royal Canadian Mint just announced a new alternative to BitCoin on: April 04, 2012, 10:03:50 PM
"the core of MintChip is an integrated circuit "

OK this is yet another hardware based, centralized system ..

As much an alternative to bitcoin as .. (fill in whatever crosses your mind now)

I would say an engagement in the patent war to get electronic "fiat" money onto SIM cards and EMV cards.
948  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why does Gizmodo (Gawker) Hate Bitcoin? on: April 04, 2012, 09:47:51 PM
I am going to start calling Gizmodo a ponzi developed by the pornography industry to funnel money to Islamic terrorists.
I believe this is a very decent reply to the accusations raised by the banking lobby (sometimes referred to as the 4 riders of the infocalipse, protecting the status quo)

Is Gizmodo sponsored by Apple/iTunes ?
949  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [Announce] Coindl.com - a new digital downloads marketplace powered by Bitcoin on: April 04, 2012, 09:36:05 PM

Getting artists, authors and publishers on the site is the #1 priority. I'm reaching out every way I know how to get folks interested in selling on the site.
I've already mentionned the site to a new up and coming band in Paris..
950  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On the glorification of Bitcoin on: April 04, 2012, 09:35:28 AM
I beg you, please draw your inspiration in images of freedom, voluntarism, cooperation, openness, consistency, capitalism and entrepreneurship as opposed to oppression, violence, and pretense of knowledge. Thank you.

I don't understand how and why you managed to mention capitalism as something opposite of oppression, violence, and pretense of knowledge.

Capitalism is a word known to be an anti-concept, i.e a word that makes communication MORE difficult instead of facilitating it just like a bad actor makes undestanding of a character more difficult.
I would stay away from it on this forum.

@OP The idea of a bitcoin mascot was discussed before and I like the Alpaca, a fairly innocent, unassuming animal.
The empty throne proposed in the article is still a symbol of centralized power, not optimal to represent the bitcoin movement.

@OP
Great idea! I am now on the map
952  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has anyone used Bitcoin to make an international fiat money transfer cheaper? on: April 01, 2012, 10:00:23 PM
From Europe (SEPA zone) to the US:
1/ Wire transfer euros to bitcoin-central.net: cost zero and takes about a day
2/ Buy bitcoins on bitcoin-central (cost zero fee)
3/ Send bitcoins: recipient sells them on mtgox and cashes out via Dwolla (cost 25 cts takes about a day)

Total Cost: liquidity spread + 25 cts and two days

If I do the same with banks it will cost me 16.50 euros and at least 5 days (I must write a letter to my bank: after that all I can do is hope they wont screw up, which they do quite often).

954  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens if someone starts another blockchain or cryptocurrency? on: March 31, 2012, 09:00:30 AM

Even disregarding the 'who', why would someone stake anything in the second copy of the same thing? Obviously a third is coming along to screw you.
This is very true for the "store of value" function. For the "medium of exchange" function, the network effect is a strong driver and will add to the "first mover advantage" of bitcoin.
955  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin is an experiment,... on: March 30, 2012, 10:33:34 PM
The Euro is a large scale experiment started in the late 1990s. It's still in use in countries where it's a large scale failure.
956  Economy / Economics / Re: Paul Krugman -- world champion troll on: March 29, 2012, 10:29:46 PM
How ironic.  A bitcoin supporter calling one of the world's most brilliant economists a troll.  Stupid has reached a new level on the internet.

wake up mate: if economists are not bankers, economists are paid to make fake economic forecasts by politicians who make fake electoral promises.
957  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Instawallet is back, alive and well! on: March 29, 2012, 10:14:12 PM
Or is all transactions on instawallet logged?
Yes, transactions are all logged by the Bitcoin client itself. <3
The transactions to instawallet was mixed, my coins was transferred to another users account and when withdrawing I received another user's coins. I once followed the transactions of my coins stored on instawallet with blockexplorer.

So chain of transactions with coins purchased with my Mt.Gox account ends up being used to pay for killer wet job instead of buying ganja on SR. And I end up buying ganja with coins that was stolen from allinvain.

I'm pretty sure Instawallet is continuing to run exactly as it was, with no difference. But yeah it'd be good to get confirmation on your question. Instawallet also had the wonderful green address, so you could set up three accounts, send coins between them via green address, and if you do it in different amounts at different times, then I see no way to prove linkage.

It'd also be great if Instawallet would make a policy of destroying all transaction logs after 30 days or something.
Thanks for these suggestions: we will certainly consider them going forward but at the moment we are focused on mobile developments and on rock solid availability even when the service scales up.

ça peut même être immédiat si vous regardez le carnet d'ordres avant et placez un ordre qui sera matché tout de suite..
959  Economy / Economics / Re: Paul Krugman -- world champion troll on: March 27, 2012, 03:14:58 PM
Krugman belongs to the same category of nobel prize winners as Paul Samuelson who famously predicted in 1967 that the GNP of the USSR would reach parity with the USA by 1977..

What could we do without those geniuses ? And remember: the nobel prize in economics is in safe hands, it's awarded by bankers.
960  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What's the difference between InstaWallet.org and EasyWallet.org? on: March 26, 2012, 10:16:11 PM
I wondered also why someone was so eager to clone an existing service (that davout and I are operating for free at our own cost) when there are so many developments yet to be made to improve bitcoin usability..

Anyway, we have plans to keep building on Instawallet and make it as reliable as possible going forward. Acquiring it from jav was also our way to acknowledge his invention and commitment to bitcoin.
