381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to check if ICO is scam or not? on: February 21, 2018, 10:07:54 PM
The easiest way to find out if it's a scam is to look at the team members, are they known faces, real people with a linkedin page etc? If not, avoid like the plague.

Another simple metric is to look at whether they have a physical headquarters, indicating that they are a big company, and whether big media outlets are publishing their adverts. Normally only the most trusted ICOs have physical billboard adverts.
382  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Uzbekistan legalizes Cryptocurrency! on: February 21, 2018, 10:06:10 PM
I would struggle to believe in any government that bans cryptocurrency. There is no need, it doesn't need to threaten the national currency, it can supplement or even improve it. I would assume I am living in a dictatorship if my country banned crypto, that would be cause for rebellion.
383  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: tips for begginers on: February 21, 2018, 10:04:19 PM
I've got a great tip for you, it's spelled beginners, not begginers. Now that's out of the way, here's a few more.

1. Start small, do not invest more than you can afford to lose, gradually invest more as you get comfortable with crypto
2. If you plan to trade, make you choose the exchange that's right for you, based on the exchange fee, volume and coins supported
3. Don't spam post on the forum, and try to stay high quality otherwise you'll be tagged by a DT member which may end your crypto career prematurely
4. Be overly cautious when starting out.
384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Israel Confirms It Will Tax Bitcoin as Property on: February 21, 2018, 10:02:00 PM
Definitely an absolutely terrible idea to set the tax rate so high, obviously this will lead to more people actually attempting to evade tax than pay it, something that is quite easily done with cryptocurrencies. The logical decision is to tax it on par with other assets, or perhaps a tiny fraction more, going so far over that threshold is going to lead to extreme tax evasion. I'll be surprised if anybody actually files for taxes in Israel now with their crypto gains.
385  Economy / Economics / Re: How does a Bitcoin have any value? on: February 21, 2018, 09:59:35 PM
Why does gold or the dollar have any value? Because every agrees it has value, that is all it takes. The same goes with digital currencies like Paypal and Skrill, they have value because everyone agrees they have value. Bitcoin has value because it has utility, that utility is both being a store of value, and a medium for the exchange of value.
386  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My bitcoin 2017 nightmare on: February 20, 2018, 08:07:56 PM
You do realize that you could have posted all of that in one post? Spam posting like that is only likely to get you tagged.

That being said, interesting story if true, glad you got your coins back. As for walking, you should look into clinical trials in your area, you may be eligible to participate in (assuming your story is non-fiction).
387  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: NEO is in great support on: February 20, 2018, 07:58:13 PM
NEO is definitely one to watch. When the recent dip occurred, NEO held strong until around the midpoint, and then began to decline also.

The fact that such a new coin was able to hold steady under such pressure is remarkable. I think NEO is in the running to x5-x10 within the year.
388  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Help - Bittrex keeps telling me I'm using a new IP when I'm not. on: February 20, 2018, 07:55:32 PM
It's really easy to know Smiley Your IP is Dynamic IP so it's not the same IP address all the time although you don't change your internet connection cause your IP address changed automatically. I also have this problem and just need to log in again one more time Smiley. Don't worry about this problem, it's very normal. I think you should read a little bit about Dynamic IP and Static IP to understand about it Smiley

I'm not too tech savvy, I did think this is what it could be but was surprised how variable it seems to be. Sometimes I'm required to verify it multiple times a day and sometimes it's multiple weeks.

Looking in to it a little it seems that my IP is dynamic so I'm sure that's why. Thank you for your help.

Out of curiosity, when and why does your IP change if it's dynamic?

ISPs only have a certain number of IP addresses to go around from the total pool of available addresses. Certain customers have something known as a static IP address, this is particularly useful for people hosting their own server, or requiring SSH access. You may be able to contact your ISP and request a static IP address if it's annoying you too much (there is often a charge for this service however).
389  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Help - Bittrex keeps telling me I'm using a new IP when I'm not. on: February 19, 2018, 08:16:35 PM
I also have this issue, it happens after you reset your router if you have a dynamic IP, as your IP address is changed on each startup.

If not, it could be a corrupt cookie issue, try deleting your cookies and trying again, the new cookie should be fine.
390  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The #6 Coin on: February 19, 2018, 08:15:13 PM
If Bitcoin Cash really is a pump and dump, then we may see it drop out of the top 5 if there's a large dump.

Other than that, I personally believe that NEO is the strongest contender for the #6 spot, possibly higher. I fully expect that NEO will break the $500 mark by Q4 2018.
391  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Personally I’m not big on bitcoin in the long run. on: February 19, 2018, 08:05:37 PM
It really depends on why you're holding bitcoin, it is true that BTC is unlikely to see the absolute highest gains in cryptocurrency, but with increased value also comes increased stability, so bitcoin becomes the safer option over time as it is proven strong. New ERC-20 tokens may have a lot of potential, but they also have a lot of risk, careful analysis of these risks and spreading your investments might see you turn a greater profit than simply holding BTC/ETH.
392  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Promising coin for 2018? on: February 19, 2018, 08:02:23 PM
Just browsed over the website, looks like an interesting development but I really don't see where this coin fits into the current landscape. Numerous other altcoins claim superiority over BTC in terms of speed and fees, and even those haven't taken the throne. Also, the name isn't very brandable, I really wouldn't have chosen that name.
393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Western union confirms ripple on: February 19, 2018, 07:59:47 PM
It's surprising that Ripple is only up less than 1% since yesterday, I would have expected news like this to spike it at least 10%. I guess Ripple is failing to acquire the number of partners they had everyone believe, it may not rise back up to ~$3 each as around Christmas.
394  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Invest in Ethereum on: February 18, 2018, 03:15:56 PM
It depends on what you want from your investment, Bitcoin and Ethereum are both strong coins, and are very likely to continue to appreciate in value, though the relative rate of this appreciation will be beaten by up and coming coins. These coins balance risk with reward, as a 200%+ growth within the year is easily feasible, whereas I'm sure you're aware some lower market cap coins will likely exceed 1000%+, though choosing the correct ones is always going to be a risk.
395  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: i hav 0.5 btc ... on: February 18, 2018, 03:13:31 PM
0.5 BTC is a fair amount to start with, if I were you I would invest in mining equipment with high ROI. Get yourself a new ASIC miner at as close to market rate as possible, and mining the most profitable coins. There are pools that automatically switch to the most profitable coin. Just be careful, and don't get too greedy by mining moonshot coins continuously.
396  Other / Meta / Re: How to get merits? on: February 18, 2018, 03:08:57 PM
You gain merit by producing high quality posts that contribute to the forum, or by producing posts that appeal to particular members enough to warrant meriting. I would suggest writing up some posts that add genuine value to the community, tutorials for difficult topics, threads that stimulate productive discussion and perhaps even writing some reviews of new ICOs or funds in the pipeline.
397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Will ETH beat BTC someday? on: February 18, 2018, 03:04:25 PM
Bitcoin was released in 2009, and Ethereum was released in 2015. In that short space of time Ethereum has managed to achieve 50% of Bitcoin's market cap. I would say there is a reasonable chance that Ethereum will overtake Bitcoin by 2020. There is space for both of these coins, and I don't see any real competitors for the crown of king of crypto.
398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Future of Litecoin on: February 17, 2018, 08:40:07 PM
Litecoin has been around for almost as long as Bitcoin, and yet has not seen the same gains in value that BTC showed. This is probably due to lack of merchant integration, and the fact it does nothing that Bitcoin doesn't. Comparing it to Ethereum, which released in 2015, there is a massive difference. Ethereum managed to almost catch up to Bitcoin in just two years, something Litecoin has failed to achieve since its release around 2011. I think the recent gains in LTC are shortlived, and the currency will soon drop out of the top 10.
399  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's strength is that nobody can crack it yet on: February 17, 2018, 08:35:42 PM
Bitcoin will not be banned, any country doing so would be essentially banning freedom of choice, I doubt that would sit well with the general public. Using SHA-256 encryption means that bitcoin is extremely resistant to brute force style attacks, so it is almost computationally impossible to hack, certainly nowhere close with todays most powerful computers, or those producible using current and prototype technology. Bitcoin is here to stay.
400  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is NOT DEAD on: February 17, 2018, 08:31:22 PM
Bitcoin has been declared dead over one hundred times, and like a phoenix it rises from the ashes more brilliant than before;

You'll usually notice that the websites calling it dead often have competing interests, or tag it with a statement such as Bitcoin is dead, but Ethereum is about to moon etc.
