301  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you trust to bitcoin casinos? on: June 03, 2016, 07:26:25 PM
I think that it kind of depends on what casinos you are talking about.  Like most dice sites are known to not run away with your coins, but rather have a house advantage over all the players... other sports gambling places have proven to be ok too in terms of not running away, and it comes with the added bonus of being able to check on the lines to see if everyone else is playing the same line...

I just personally like sports gambling over anything really.
302  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: transaction speed of Bitcoin as users increase on: May 31, 2016, 04:31:52 PM
Thanks for all the explanation but I don't get why new people who are not invested in Bitcoin will wait for tech to catch up if alternative projects are viable and faster.? Arnt there coins right now that will be able to handle the scalability issue that bitcoins right now face?

In theory, there are coins that can handle a large amount of transactions at a semi decent rate (not Visa speeds, but still pretty good)... this is due to the research regarding dynamic block sizes and some cryptonote coins and other coins I think are working on it.  I know of one which is monero, but I won't advertise them here.

Dynamic block sizes work by raising and lowering the byte sizes when needed; it's definitely not a perfect theory of solving the block size problem... but a good step forward.
303  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: £9m Bitcoin Haul on: May 31, 2016, 04:20:55 PM
Even if I had the money to make a decent bid at this chunk of BTC, I wouldn't and here's why...

What is the main purpose of Bitcoin? To remain pseudononymous and can transact anywhere in the world without the scrutiny of government or be interfered.  Now, if you get 25,000 BTC, that's obviously trackable on the blockchain and anyone can see where you are sending those coins... This automatically tracks you to every single payment that you and other people make from here on forward, because you are publicly bidding on them.
304  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Hacking on: May 31, 2016, 04:08:53 PM
If I'm not mistaken, I think that there is a possibility for the blockchain network to be hindered useless or vulnerable to attack if the network hash rate is low enough... but it would be a very expensive and energy consuming feat by one person to do if they were to do it now since there is a lot of powerful miners being pointed to the bitcoin network.
305  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin: Does it have a POSITIVE IMPACT on your life? on: May 31, 2016, 04:06:02 PM
I think it has had a positive impact on my life, and here's why.  It has enabled me to enjoy learning more about computers and learning about different governmental and personal philosophies that I can consider near and dear to me.  It has helped me develop into the person I am today because it has helped me decide what values I have, and those are the values of privacy and personal freedoms, away from powerful governments dictating what you can or can't do with your life.
306  Economy / Services / Re: ★ Coinroll ★ Signature Campaign ★ on: May 30, 2016, 07:29:22 PM
There seems to be a problem. Either something crashed or there was no limiter to usage of one of the buttons (add/verify) and someone spammed it until the tracker's IP got banned by forum. Notified the dev who will look into it so it can be fixed.

All ranks can actually register and verify right now. But the signatures available require the [size] tag and it will not work for ranks under Sr. Member. So the signature won't verify for members lower than this.

We'll open campaign to more ranks when we're sure everything will run smoothly and some new features are added like multiple links & pay tiers.

Please stand by and be patient.

I just retried to add my profile user id number and it still didn't work... not sure if it is just me or if all the other people are still having issues both with the add and verify functions of the page.
307  Economy / Services / Re: ★ Coinroll ★ Signature Campaign ★ on: May 30, 2016, 03:37:06 PM
I'm having trouble adding my username in the tracker or verifying my signature, and I'm a hero member... I've tried just my number and it doesn't register at all.

edit: I can't even copy and paste the code in the verification line... so it wouldn't even matter if I got a token code to add to the signature code.
308  Economy / Services / Re: ❃❃ ▶▷ BETCOIN.ag ◁◀ ❃❃#Signature Campaign-High Pay, Monthly Bonus, Special Award on: May 21, 2016, 09:17:47 PM
I would love to join the campaign. Looking forward to hearing back from you guys.
309  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] Ophion Signature Campaign on: May 20, 2016, 10:59:11 PM
I'd like to make a suggestion to all participants in this campaign:
Stop advertising them, immediately.
(Yes, even though the site is down at the moment, doesn't really matter.)

You can make a post in this thread, then archive it or just post an archived version of your profile page (archive.is).
That way, when deciding the payouts, notaek and BTCat both can see that you were wearing the signature for the full time of the campaign.
After that, remove them from your signature.

Just curious how to archive my posts?  I've never dealt with anything like this before in the past... is it something that I need to type in URL somewhere maybe?
310  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Could Ethereum takeover Bitcoin? on: May 20, 2016, 12:31:44 AM
When you guys say, "Ethereum will take over Bitcoin as the next viable cryptocurrency" you are hugely mistaken.  It's not even a currency to say the least, it just acts like a currency because you can trade it in for bitcoins and also be able to send them, which makes it an asset at the least... An asset that allows you to access the services that Ethereum has the potential to provide.

Ethereum isn't a currency.
311  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you still believe in bitcoin on: May 19, 2016, 06:04:10 PM
I still believe in bitcoin, but if the price of bitcoin going down to $1 i will not believe in bitcoin anymore. Well, it's not happened soon though. but yeah, i'm still believe.
Yeah, because next month after halving bitcoin price sure will reach $1. So brace yourself.

On some more serious manner tho. Bitcoin slowed, we can see that huge price spikes and bubbles might be financially over as price is quite stable for longer period of time.
Also we don't have as many groundbreaking bitcoin startups. Only slow evolution of existing ones. But it shows that bitcoin might be more mature now.

It's really funny how people only base their "belief" in something that is the highest in price... just like with ETH in the altcoin market, and I would speculate that atleast 50% of people who have invested in ETH can't even describe actually what the fuck it is supposed to do in the first place.

Success is not in price, but yet in the utility of Bitcoin.
312  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Secret Information via Blockchain? on: May 19, 2016, 05:38:24 PM
Short Question:

Alice and Bob want to tranfer a secret letter. How can they transfer the information with the use of the blockchain?

Thanks!

Why the need for the blockchain?

1) just a secret message transfer:
bob publishes his public key, alice encrypts the message to that key and sends to bob.

2) a secret message transfer with some deniability for both:
as in (1) except alice transfers encrypted message to a dropbox like mailinator

Use of a blockchain would be indicated if you wanted the message to remain around forever, immutable.
Do you really need this? Possibly you only need the hash of the message to be kept immutable forever?

This... if it's so secretive, then you want the person to read the information as quickly as possible for them to retain the information and then be deleted from existence forever.

There are tons of software/apps out there that allow this type of communication.
313  Economy / Speculation / Re: Guess what the price per Bitcoin would be on the Halving. on: May 19, 2016, 05:32:23 PM
I'll take your low side and say $350 Cheesy ...

But I mean seriously, the fact of the matter is that people are still going to have to *demand* bitcoins... it doesn't really matter if the supply cuts in half if there is no one wanting it because they think miners will stop all together.

Now I also understand that you could also argue that people really don't care and want to use it for a quick buck in speculation, but idk... I just see bitcoin running into too many problems... just my 2 cents.

edit: it is pretty funny how everyone just automatically assumes that it has to increase  because of the halving... not really that clear cut of a situation.
314  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs Dollar on: May 19, 2016, 04:48:04 AM
The comparison between dollar and bitcoin is unfair and uncalled for in my opinion for dollar is a currency of most powerful country while bitcoin is controlled by none.Bitcoin doesn't exist physically byt dollar can be moved both digitally and physically
Bitcoin may one day in the median in the median of this forum's lifetime do I see Bitcoin being at least an alternative to the dollar in most brick-and-motar stores and predominately used in  on the internet. there is too much power with the Us Dollar.

But really... think about it...
The dollar only has it's "power" from the U.S. government.  Think about what if the globe gets behind a certain currency for everyone to be on the same page with...

No single country can go against the entire plantet.  I would have to point out the similarity to the internet itself... no country could have it's own internet, so it has to join the rest of the "world wide web" instead.
315  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you still believe in bitcoin on: May 18, 2016, 11:05:51 PM
Yes I still believe in the bitcoin because it has a good future if you ask me, it has the halving and the growing part and that is why why should believe in it.

For one thing, the halving isn't something to celebrate... it's just something that comes along in time, it's not like we've gotten anywhere with the block size/transaction speed debate... honestly it's only something that people love to speculate on in terms of price and supply/demand stuff... not anything that's going to make bitcoin usable on a global scale.
316  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ICO] OPHION - A Secure, Anonymous & Decentralized Market |CROWDSALE LIVE| on: May 18, 2016, 09:43:09 PM
The above seems like a good solution for the 'problem'. Being that the ICO will give us a head start to so we can survive. I do think that just features are not the key to succes.
To make it an succes you need to assign someone for marketing tasks with some budget.

Most of the coins I've seen die a slow death because of lack of marketing while their developers are doing their utmost best to develop and develop.

Agreed, This is why we plan to offer our current community manager BTCat a more permanent role or look for someone else who can run the community side of things.

Honestly, I'm going to have to disagree I think... If you advertise a car to go 250 mph at 100 miles per gallon and put nice rims and a paint job on it, yeah you might get some folks interested in your product only for a limited time and consequently to be left disappointed if they end up "riding" said car.  You need to get the engine under the hood souped up and ready to go before you can market and use it to it's full extent.

Coins get around this by adding in "speculative hype" and seem to be "successful" in the short term of things, only to end up fading away by people hearing about another coin people are highly speculating on.  It's funny that people don't understand that when Bitcoin was just getting started, people were wayyy more focused on the code and stuff that was "under the hood" to get everything they wanted out of the coin right before they go about spreading the word amongst their friends and family.
317  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ICO] OPHION - A Secure, Anonymous & Decentralized Market |CROWDSALE LIVE| on: May 18, 2016, 08:48:11 PM
-snip-

Perhaps...
But the concept how it is is good enough for people to invest over 16 BTC in just a week. Which means investors believe in it. So do I tbh. If it is a final choice
- We use APi's and never develop a unique system or
- We use a custom system

My guess would be option 1. With software you will see many things that are developed needs fine-tuning. This hidden markets feature is something genius. Let's see how that will play out.

The strength of any successful product lies in it being unique. Sure small bugs will come and they will be fixed, something that will happen with either option...

But as investors wouldn't you be more attracted to a cutting edge environment made with the sole purpose of it being the next big thing? I would.
Simply because it can't be cloned easily and it can (or should i say, it will) last longer...

+1

We would have funds and we could hire devs to get work done quickly and work in a fast and productive way, Eventually funds will diminish, but developers like me who love open source projects will stay and more will always be along to help fix stuff like bugs WHEN they happen.

-Sebastian

Honestly, that is another reason why I mentioned Monero because I got that vibe from you... the monero community funds the work of devs for all kinds of tasks and projects (which most of the time the devs are seriously underfunded for the work they do)... even though I never post on their pages much, I do love watching the community grow and they have a passion for making everything just right before they release anything out into the wilderness.  You should definitely probably talk to some of them on IRC for some ideas/help on the matter at #monero ... or better yet #moner-dev ... seems like they are always lurking around on there.
318  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ICO] OPHION - A Secure, Anonymous & Decentralized Market |CROWDSALE LIVE| on: May 18, 2016, 07:47:21 PM
Personally i predict a shining future for the Ophion marketplace, as it is having powerful features making it totally different from the other known marketplaces online like Ebay, Amazon and so on.
And as it's supporting Bitcoin i think the community will support and advertise it as requested, because we need really such market supporting Bitcoin.

Even though I love the effort put forth by the devs, I still remain optimistically skeptical about the whole thing.  Bitcoin has been proven to not be the least bit anonymous and getting more and more easier to track by governing authorities, as you can see from Coindesk's recent article, "New York police win FinCEN award for Bitcoin investigations" ... I just don't see why you should run on the backbone of something that has been proven to reveal identities of people time and time again.  But I like the initiative to start the trial runs of something like this.

Chennan,

I'm fascinated by what you have to say and in the process have asked myself a lot of questions and you are right... very right in fact.

We have yet to start full development, so ideas can evolve and we can change some aspects to the whitepaper whilst keeping an asset/coin system and adhering to what has been bought in ICO so far so the same value applies to the new system.

I want ideas from people here as full development is going to start very soon.

Bitcoin was made to be open and provable, but does that have to be the case with this?
We have a number of obstacles to overcome.

a. If we Don't use the Bitcoin network or another network, we would need our own. This would require a system to prove transactions and keep the network running. Maybe some PoW CPU based.
b. Would we need to show transaction db (blockchain), as long as our network could read it, it could be encrypted and only show address -> address transactions.

We could make this a lot more secure if we were to use our own codebase, it would just take longer development... It would satisfy me as I have built the network I have always dreamed off. We could keep the same features and even add more. We wouldn't need to rely on third party API's like counterparty or third party networks.

Please everyone let me know what you think, we could do this from scratch, As for development time I couldn't tell you right now, I would need to hire more developers. But I am happy to.

Please let me know people, do you want to continue with Bitcoin/API approach? or create our own secure network?

-Sebastian

Well... I do think it would be in good interest for the security of the network to be reliant on it's own backbone.  I understand why you would want to be on Bitcoin's large and prominent network for the sake of not having to worry about getting people to run nodes and mine, but again, the aspect of remaining anonymous is another thing.

So while you can start developing your own code from scratch, you have to understand the implications of what this would/could do to what you already have in place... if you are considering having a PoW network, then obviously this crowdsale seems a little bit silly if you want to attract people to point there miners over this way.  BUT, you might want to consider trying to see if you can implement a way to run the code through one of the more popular cryptonote coins... Monero, Dash, etc. ...

Now, in terms of cryptonote coins, I have more trust in Monero personally because Dash relies on masternodes, which could significantly reduce the security & reliability of the network for multiple reasons and also Monero has a pretty active dev team working on leading edge stuff such as RingCT. But that's just how I view things... I think the community should definitely take part on what they/we want in their network.

Regardless it's a tough decision, but I would highly suggest doing something different in terms of relying on Bitcoin's blockchain.
319  Economy / Speculation / Re: The future of Bitcoin on: May 18, 2016, 07:23:47 PM
I really don't know what is the future of bitcoin but I am hoping for the best that it will give me best return on my investments.

Best return on your investment? You need some good trading strategy and don't mind much the future but rather focus on the present action because it can dictate the future. If you are thinking about the future to give best return on your investment, take time first to show some nice monitoring in bitcoin price everyday so if ever it goes bad you can minimize your loss.

Personally, I don't have the time or the nerves for that day trading stuff... That's mind numbing bot work that you could implement on any exchange site if you really wanted too... I'm more concerned for the long term stuff, and as of right now, I'm not so sure about what's in store for Bitcoin.
320  Economy / Speculation / Re: The future of Bitcoin on: May 18, 2016, 06:15:25 PM
according to me bitcoin will have a very good future and it will survive for longer or maybe till the end, and in the coming future it will have a very good value so it will be accepted internationally all over the world and will be international currency sooner.
Why we cannot call bitcoin now itself as the international currency?

Because we can send and receive bitcoin across borders.
we can buy anything online (online is usually not country specific).
Bitcoins has same value (almost, only differs with exchanges) to all the countries.

So, The future of bitcoin yet to achieve would be higher value of bitcoins.

and don't forget about No Tax in bitcoin transaction, you save arround 1%. because in my country, goverment will take 1% fee for each transaction  Cheesy

i hope in future goverment not adopt bitcoin because we must pay 1% fee for each transaction.

It really doesn't matter to me about the taxing factor as of right now, because I only see Bitcoin being a global success if it is capable of being fully functional to everyone at any given time.  This meaning that it has to be able to be fast and secure at the same time, in "Visa-like" fashion... this is a long way away, especially with no true solution proposed by the Bitcoin devs on the block size/lightning network issues.
