741  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Batch #1 Ships on: March 10, 2013, 11:40:35 PM
Having the tracking number, I can know what day it's coming, and take the day off from work so I can be here to sign for it (DHL told me that it will require a signature).  Otherwise they would leave a nondelivery notice and I would have to wait until the next day for them to try again (and take that day off from work on short notice).

Unless you've paid for specific day delivery, tracking numbers sometimes just give you access to inaccurate information.  Until a package is at "onboard with driver" stage (which usually means it will be delivered within a few hours), you generally only know the latest date by which the package will be delivered.  I've had so many attempted deliveries before the estimated date shown on the tracking info that I sometimes think this is a deliberate strategy to increase revenue via redelivery fees.
742  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL preorder customers are investors in BFL on: March 10, 2013, 11:32:27 PM
And...?

Honestly, this has been done to death and the BFL faithful simply don't care.

Or simply have no choice.  The market isn't exactly flooded with real options at the moment.  All ASIC vendors area a gamble at this point.
Sam

Yes, they're all a gamble, but nobody is being forced to make that gamble.  People who placed early orders for ASICs didn't do so out of altruism - they did so hoping it would give them an advantage over other miners.  Plenty of other people decided to keep mining with their old hardware until vendors actually delivered products and consistent supply was more certain.

It's disingenuous to claim that those who ordered ASICs early "had no choice" when the various ASIC threads make very clear people were gambling in the hope of large, rapid returns.  It was a high risk choice, but it was still a choice - as was choosing to hang in there after each "just a little further" announcement.

BFL has done a lot of questionable things since June/July last year, but lets not pretend that those who've stayed the distance had no other choice.
743  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAMMER: Cablepair (Tom) from BTCFPGA.com/bitcoinasic.net on: March 10, 2013, 11:00:27 PM
I scammer-tagged him.

Probably makes zero difference to him.  He's done with this board - he's a millionaire now.

Based on his last post, he intends to continue selling FPGAs.  I believe there's some value in trying to make potential FPGA customers aware of the bASIC clusterfuck.  Tom may be done with this board, but perhaps his being scammer-tagged will make newbies less inclined to deal with him.

And...?

Honestly, this has been done to death and the BFL faithful simply don't care.  If anyone's actually bothered to complain to consumer protection agencies about this, then those complaints have obviously gone nowhere as BFL has never stopped taking pre-orders.

Now it would be nice if BFL made clear their current refund policy as there've been a couple of posts lately claiming that people have received a snarky response from Jody when requesting refunds and it would certainly be worrying if they're going to institute a "no cancellations" policy once they give the go ahead for the bulk chip order, but those who've been hanging in since June/July seem disinclined to cancel their orders and its those people who would likely have the strongest case should BFL adopt a "no more refunds" stance.

has anyone actully bought one and gotten the product and can post some picture evidence of the unit.

You'd know the answer to that if you read the thread.

748  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Asic Update March 1st on: March 04, 2013, 06:46:16 AM
1300 bucks a day ? Am I figuring that up right ? I believe he has 5 now. That's sickening if so.

On the contrary, it's what everyone who pre-ordered ASICs early dreamed of - nobody orders 5 ASICs "to strengthen the network".
749  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: PrimeAsic - 80 Ghash/sec Asic Miner on: March 04, 2013, 06:22:21 AM
pictures of assembled units ready for shipping please.

and like someone else suggested, put 800Gh on ozcoin to give a little peace of mind that you're not using FPGAs.

It needs to be more than that.  Apparently there's already someone on ozcoin mining at a higher rate than that and they aren't using ASICs.
750  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Lightning miner ! 4ghs 80 usd Wow on: March 04, 2013, 04:49:52 AM
Atlas is considerably more literate than whoever put together that website.

I can find no traces of any previous website that sold "Lightning Miner", despite the comments section.  In fact all references to the Lightning Miner which I can find on Google have appeared in the last few days.

751  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Lightning miner ! 4ghs 80 usd Wow on: March 04, 2013, 04:28:25 AM
Have you got anything that connects the two Multiverse companies, Phinn (even Australia has a few companies called Multiverse)?  I don't feel like paying for an ASIC search to find out who's behind Multiverse Pty Ltd, but maybe there's some information that links them.

I think the ASIC guys are probably scammers, but given how little effort Multiverse Pty Ltd put into advertising themselves (looks like they didn't even have a website and they only advertised in free or cheap local stuff), I'm not sure that the guys from Mt Hawthorn in Western Australia are connected with the guys who are supposedly shipping mining gear from the US.

I also find it odd that anyone familiar with Bitcoin would abbreviate it to BC.

You agree to use Newegg.ca website (the "Website") only for purposes that are permitted by this Policy & Agreement and any applicable law

I just finished reading page one, and may have more to comment on. I think I know who this is, but will wait to see if I read if he's already been discovered.

Probably wise to say something now if you think he's a scammer.  People seem willing to order these things sight unseen.
753  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: PrimeAsic - 80 Ghash/sec Asic Miner on: March 04, 2013, 02:55:00 AM
Funny how this would be a game-changing announcement that would get tons of orders but no pricing.  NO PRICING?

If suspect there are quite a few people who care less about price than they do about being able to get hold of an ASIC right now if this is genuine.  When they prove these exist and work, price becomes relevant - until then, they might as well be $75 Lightningminers.

It's 3am in Budapest.  I suspect we're not going to get any more answers for a few hours.
755  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Official Gox / CoinLab Integration and Transition FAQ on: March 04, 2013, 01:27:29 AM
MT, will you be inspecting/verifying CoinLab's security measures?

... and complicance with Canadian laws and regulations?

How are they obliged to comply with Canadian laws and regulations if they're not operating in Canada?  Australia has some of the world's toughest privacy laws, but I can assure you that they aren't extra-territorial and a company not operating in Australia can't be forced to comply with them.
756  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL Update - 3-1-13 on: March 04, 2013, 12:10:29 AM
For fuck's sake.

Can we just leave spouses, children, and other family members not actively involved in BFL out of this?  I know I took a cheap shot at Josh's poodle, but this is a whole new level of insanity.
757  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: PrimeAsic - 80 Ghash/sec Asic Miner on: March 03, 2013, 11:53:16 PM
Why just not wait till they connect 10 devices or so to that pool, like I asked. Though it doesn't look like the Green Edi Sales and Services LLC will do so tonight.

I agree, there's no harm in waiting a few days.  Customers having the opportunity to go and see a working unit before outlaying anything would be a first, though.
758  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: PrimeAsic - 80 Ghash/sec Asic Miner on: March 03, 2013, 11:41:11 PM
We have a problem here. We have a real company.

Of course that doesn't prove they have working ASICs, but it's more confidence inspiring than the total opacity of many Bitcoin enterprises.

And this is somehow scaring! Good wording anyway.

I'm only 800km away, I could drive the whole night and reach them tomorrow, to be their first client and do the affair of my life.

But I think I will simply go to sleep and follow this drama tomorrow with a truck of popcorn.

I'm pretty confident that someone will end up physically going to check this out.  Hell, someone bought one of those Lightning Miners and they seem like an obvious scam.

It would be great for Euro customers if there's a Euro ASIC vendor.

I tried to call the number in the whois, it's "not in use" (well, that way easy to guess, 9995748 is the kind of number you pseudo randomly generate writing fast on the keyboard [5748 = cross]).

Here is the google map location of their offices.

[...] but Edi-Green has been in business since at least 2011 at that same address.
Care to share your google-fu, please?

Use Google translate.  A tax ID is given.  Someone in Europe may know how to verify it, find out who owns the company, pull up any previous business names, etc.
