Does this count?

I think it was originally meant to represent mittens.

I don't think this is by accident.  there is a long history of big companies using subliminal messages in their designs.

Is this a subliminal message?

The University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, must have thought they were onto a corker when they designed a rising red sun over a stunning pagoda.

Is this the place stolfi works at?

I saw the name... and immediately wanted to respond "Fuck Stolfi".  He has been here as long as most of us.

But the poor bastard pretty much did that to himself didn't he?  Talk about lose/lose...  He will either die an early death or live to see how incredibly stupid he actually was.

I made my retirement playing poker for Bitcoin...

But I will pay for the drinks playing solitaire on my phone.

It is never too late to stack... no matter how you choose to do it!

Has anyone here had channels with zerofeerouting?
In case you missed it:

Dear customers and peers. With a heavy heart I have decided to shut down my node within the next couple of weeks. I am expecting my second child and want to be able to focus on my growing family.
I would like to apologize for the suddenness of this all. I had planned something very different but was unable to make it happen.
Unfortunately this cost me the time I would have needed to do keep the node running.
For the last couple of days, I have pondered a lot about how to unwind an operation like mine in the fairest way possible. But there is no other way than to do a clean shutdown.
To everybody that recently opened a channel to me in the hopes of doing some routing: I am sorry for the wasted channel funding fee, had I known earlier that I had to shut down, I would have disabled accepting channels.
If you have bought a channel from me and cooperatively close it within 90 days of the purchase, I will fully refund your purchase price.

I also read that he plans to write a piece (or multiple blog posts) about how he ran his node with his experiences and advice, which I'm very much looking forward to.

Yes.  I have had more than one channel open with him.  I am not surprised entirely he is closing.  In my opinion the idealistic way he is running his node makes it harder to manage.  That is not a criticism.  It is an observation.  I ran my large node with zero fees for sometimes, and my routing went berserk. And some of the channels would just get drained and then stop being useful.  Seems to me there are two main ways to rectify this.  Find other channels that will draw flow in the opposite direction (this is hard) or adjust your fees to incentivize traffic (slightly less hard).  So really he was dealing with only the first of those tools, along with whatever other techniques he had discovered.

Another one bites the dust.

As previously disclosed, the Company’s operating performance and liquidity have been severely impacted by the prolonged decrease in the price of bitcoin, the increase in electricity costs, the increase in the global bitcoin network hash rate and the litigation with Celsius Networks LLC and its affiliates (“Celsius”). As a result, management has been actively taking steps to decrease monthly costs, delay construction expenses, reduce and delay capital expenditures and increase hosting revenues. In addition, the Board has decided that the Company will not make payments coming due in late October and early November 2022 with respect to several of its equipment and other financings, including its two bridge promissory notes. As a result, the creditors under these debt facilities may exercise remedies following any applicable grace periods, including electing to accelerate the principal amount of such debt, suing the Company for nonpayment or taking action with respect to collateral, where applicable. Any such creditor actions may result in events of default under the Company’s other indebtedness agreements, including its two series of convertible notes due 2025, and the potential exercise of remedies by creditors under such agreements.

So we’ve dipped below $19,000 again. I guess we’ll find out in the next few weeks which way we’re headed. I just can’t envisage the price bobbing along at $19,xxx for much longer.

Feels like we’ll see a significant move in either direction soon. Maybe it’s just me?

No, you are not the only one having that feeling. I also looked at the previous chart to find a clue as to whether is this the bottom or not. One thing I noticed in every bear cycle is that BTC prices never stayed at their bottom for a long time. This indicates that this is not the bottom. We are between 22k to 18k for a very long time and I have a feeling that more dip is ahead. There is a negative and a positive side to it.

Negative: Another major crash ahead.
Positive: End of the bear market.

This is my thinking.

We haven’t seen enough pain. I don’t see enough panic & devastation, depression etc. I don’t think the bottom is in but I am happy to be wrong.

A kamikaze dive to $14,000 seems likely. A brief suicidal dive to new lows followed by a fairly quick recovery.

This would be a repeat of the 6k - 3k before the last bull.  So it makes sense.  But maybe too much?

The Fed is obviously committed to this worldwide shitshow of rate hikes until the end of year.

Another 1.25 bp worth of hikes on the table by end of December.

They will end up crushing everything, all markets everywhere, companies panicking and mass layoffs coming in January, banks getting margin called, real estate crashing, etc.

Which is apparently exactly what they want to see happen.

Good news from Norway -> Hodlonaut won against Faketoshi and once again proved that pathological liar is not Satoshi. Not that we didn't know it, but every legal slap in the face of that liar is another victory for Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is hanging up there so far, despite all those calls for a "final" plunge.

No worries 13-14k coming up.

impressive that you are 100% sure about the (final) low of this cycle.

do you mind sharing some of your insights that make that a done deal for you?

I made the following prediction in april 2021

70k by may I guarantee it.
so
13-14k by dec 1 I guarantee it.

proudhon will tell you math and science is the key.

if i tell you the math and science do not worry i will want to have to kill you.

so the bottom number is derived from s19 profits.

if you have a 100 th s19 and it burns 3kwatts that comes to

72 kwatts or $4.32 power cost.

at the moment 100 th earns 6.72

so the s19 nets $2.40 a day

that is too good and must get lower. say + or - 25 cents

over the years top line gear never loses much at six cent power.

so The 13-14 number is a very good guess unless the conflict ends unexpectedly.

unless putin dies tonight and the russian vs Ukraine conflict ends. Thats a unicorn as it is very unlikely to occur in the next few weeks. It would mean a massive rally.

-technically too difficult for even the average IT professional to do well (lol)

Maybe by the time that I get to this next step of adding lightning (after starting with a core node), there might be some updates to make it easier for some of us less technically inclined (less technically adventurous) folks.

I want to put a finer point on this one.  First of all, I am all for running your own node.  SO many pluses.  My quip about it being too hard for the avg IT pro though... I want to 'splain a little.  No single part of it is all that bad.  If you have the skills to set up a Raspberry Pi, install software... flash an SD card.  Or install a big SSD in an old laptop and get core running.  Then install CL or LND (Eclair?) then you can get it all up and running.  THIS part is not that hard anymore.  Plenty of guides.  I would love to see a Raspiblitz for X64 port for the latter.  But that is not all.  Then you have to manage the damn thing.  I enjoy this.  But no one really knows how to do this optimally yet.  LOL.  Well, I am sure some do, and those people are doing things like running the WoS node etc.  But there is a lot to managing your fees, liquidity, etc.  It is frustrating at times even for smart folk (I assume).

Yes... at some point I may need to experiment a bit more with some of these, and surely there are going to be ongoing developments that might come closer to resolving some of the current trade-offs and/or lack of confidence to put very much funds on those wallets... not that I am ever expecting to get close to the same level of confidence in terms of some of the non-custodial on chain bitcoin wallets... but just having some confidence in terms of how to both attempt to use the lightning network and to recommend newbies to get started and to get familiar with the lighting network.. at least from an attempt to use it for transactions from time to time... a circle of folks with possibly more options.. if it is not too much work to get them set up (or too much work to even get myself set up).

I think you'd be fine getting a lightning wallet to work.  And frankly the custodial, and neutrino type (I called them middleground last night) wallets are just about as easy to use as a regular Bitcoin wallet, and are in fact those too... just with some added coolness.
