Resolution imminent.

Edit next morning-

Resolution complete.

To the old timers:  Is it just me or has Monero often seemed to want to do this against a weak BTC backdrop over the years.
602  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 22, 2022, 12:41:59 PM
No offense, but that's one of the meaningless stats I've ever seen. Where to start. That bitcoin isn't a stock? That the market cap of a crypto is meaningless on its own? That each of those companies had a different GDP to begin with?

Your point is a good one.  But at the same time, the velocity of the rise of Bitcoin is primed to be one of the biggest stories of our age.  And to your point it's "market cap" value will not act like a security traded as part ownership of a single company, but rather the lingua franca for the expression of all value for all companies, assets, goods, services etc.

The difference, once it is realized will be absolutely breathtaking.

The fact that it still trades like a single tech company represents the most lopsided opportunity generations will ever see.  For the millionth time, we are gentlemen.  Hello from the past, Mr. Future reader.  Yes we were here in 2022 BEFORE people figured out what this thing was completely.  You will call us lucky, and you will be right.  But it was hard as hell to hold on through all this. And some of us were not able to because of the financial storms that are about to hit.  Yeah... some of us saw that coming too.

603  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 22, 2022, 12:23:08 PM
...

So I go away for almost two weeks yet the price of BTC barely moves.  Ah well.

Maybe with all the cheery news around (/s) number go up once I get home.  It's not like anything macro is really getting any better (war, inflation, .gov "leadership", etc.)

I did have a chance to talk with a younger guy (40s) about BTC (and crypto), but I told him that I was BTC only, and to solicit opinions on alts elsewhere.  He seemed genuinely interested, I will inquire later if he jumps in the pool.

604  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 22, 2022, 12:08:07 PM

... one other little tip.  I like to buy a little extra on those "blood running in the streets" days.  It has been clearly a winning strategy for me.  Maybe I have just been lucky.  Bitcoin (and poker) has cultivated a fairly high pain tolerance... so "blood in the streets" for me is usually a BAD day, and either close to a bottom, or at least near the base of a good dip, even when more are to come.

How do you know it's a "blood running in the streets" day?

Is that when there's a candle with an inverted zippidity doo with a kangaroo leg?

I don't know much about zippitydoos or roo legs.  Do they look like this?  If so, yes.

605  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 22, 2022, 12:04:23 PM
I remember how downcast so many were even 4 years ago...

After the 2017 bull, and brief altseason we have all been crushed so badly.  It is understandable that many lost hope.  After all, most alts are absolute garbage.  Most have deserved the 90+% losses, and the ones that have remained closer to the top have NOT deserved to be there.  The only caveat is their demise might bring some pain to all the alts... even the ... well fuck it. I honestly think there is only one that deserves attention.

That said 290-330 is the last stand of the shitcoin levels.  If it can take all that?  Well.  It's just open skies above that, I think.  And I do not think it has to stay under it's XMR/BTC ath either.  I see it having a good chance of attacking as far as .09 BTC if not the whole .1

Historically .0082 should be the next major hurdle.

Agree... that one has some history, and ~.0092 might be a minor speed bump on the way back to .01.  I thin Monero deserves to be back up at least part of the way to it's BTC ATH.  And based on it's fundamental values as much as 2-3x that amount eventually.  That is my hyper bull scenario, I guess.

But right now we need to hold this general USD value.  Seems like a breather in BTC and XMR here.  As we go into the weekend I could see it do this kind of repetition:

606  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 22, 2022, 03:49:57 AM
I wrote about this on Twitter and in the latest issue of the Monero Moon, but thought it is such a prominent chart I'd share it here.

After 4 years of Monero down-trending against Bitcoin, XMR has finally broken out upwards, and is looking like it will close the month out above resistance.

This is a rare and unprecedented event for any cryptocurrency to break out from such a long downtrend on the BTC pair, and as far as I’m aware has never happened before.

The last time XMR broke out of a long-term (22 month) downtrend against BTC was Feb 2016, before rallying 2600% against Bitcoin.

Back on topic though.  That is a damn sexy daily candle... wonder how many more of these we have in there.

608  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 21, 2022, 08:01:32 PM
^ ^  It's starting imho.  All it takes is a little bit more of critical thinking and for the people in the Bitcoin community to start asking questions.  The most obvious one being why are there still lots of DNM users still continuing to use BTC?  They should drop it as BTC isn't really built for keeping your wallets' blockchain info safe from the prying eyes of TPTB.  Even their most prized use case of the store of value narrative isn't really that strong without Monero's features.

And it is sad that the WO has gotten so out of hand.

I'm trying to remember when it wasn't.

I've got nothing.

I blame cAPSLOCK and Heuristic

Just curious...  What happened?

Well I won't speak for smooth whose beef might be different.  But we had a combination of an influx of noisy noobs, which cause some of the longer time folks to bristle a little as they fish for merits.  Also some folks getting mad about doom-y TA from said noobs.

But also there have been a few accounts, and one in particular that just went off the deep end acting like absolute assholes. Personally I was a bit offended when after letting the board know I had just tested positive for covid this asshole started going on about how stupid we are to believe it was real more or less.  I don;t have very much bandwidth for people who cannot have a little nuance.  I am actually in the camp that thinks we severely over-reacted to covid, and that the vaccines were at best duds.  But I have compassion for folks going through it.  I know people who have died from it, and anyway... yeah mainly one asshole.

As to the maxis being maxis.  That does not bother me all that much.  Again, I prefer nuance but tolerate maxis on both the Bitcoin and Monero side.  While I think I have made it clear I see a world in which both flourish.  So I have never minded those sorts of views expressed here, or there.

One thing I agree strongly on is Monero's privacy is about to make the same kind of lightbulb go off to a LARGE wave of people as it did for so many of us.  The Guns'n'Bitcoin folks... McCormack, et al.  There are a LOT of reasonable Bitcoinners, even maxis starting to admit the fact that Monero does something that not only can Bitcoin NOT do, but that it probably never should.  I think we see privacy improve on layer 2.  But we are nowhere near there yet.  And the short squeeze coming for Monero might be crazy-go-nuts.

[...]

I doubt that anyone of us can push anyone towards how they engage in such early stages of BTC accumulation, even though DCA seems to be amongst the best of place holder approaches, and for sure lump sum investing and buying on dips can have some risks in terms of the possibility that the BTC price could go down before it goes up.  There are ways to balance all three approaches, but likely ONLY after some internal assessment of ones own individual circumstances which includes looking at cashflow, other investments, timeline, view of bitcoin as compared with other investments, risk tolerance and time, skills and abilities to plan, strategize and to learn along the way, which also may well involve tweaking strategies along the way, too.

There's also an element of determining establishing initial BTC stake - and then once achieving such initial BTC stake - which also could take a year or more to establish... then to determine how to manage such stake.. or to perhaps adjust the stake upon reassessments.  An initial stake could also involve putting 1% to 25% of overall investment portfolio value into BTC, and for sure the amounts are quite discretionary including that each individual might well end up having quite a different approach from another individual based on some minor differences in the individual circumstances (as I have already mentioned above).

Capisce?

I cannot stress enough the benefit and importance of DCA, especially for Bitcoin newbies. Buying and HoDLing Bitcoin (regardless of method) is a winning strategy in the long term, but there are ways to maximize the return of your investment. Enter DCA. What DCA does is that it takes the randomness of volatility out of the equation by effectively averaging it out between many small purchases over a given period of time, whereas lump sum investing is like throwing a dice and hoping for a 6, but might instead end up with a 1. Given a sufficient number of small purchases temporally spread out, DCA achieves an average dice result of a 3 or a 4, so it effectively protects you from buying at the top.

Of course, when it comes to Bitcoin, even a 1 is a win long-term, but why not aim for a 3 or a 4? DCA can do that. Just add time.

Great advice.  Simple and bulletproof.  We will be called lucky by our children's children.  And we are.

But one other little tip.

Will this organic groundswell continue?  It looks like it could!

611  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: April 20, 2022, 12:59:30 PM
Don't keep your coins on an exchange. Same story as 8 years ago. Same story 8 years from now. Just don't.

Sage advice.

To be honest I have always felt like keeping your coins in the custody of a third party just about completely misses the point of Bitcoin (and Monero).  It generally costs almost nothing to withdraw them.  Back when I played poker for corn I never left any funds on the site.  I deposited/withdrew each time. The ability to do that was part of the wonder of Bitcoin.  That part was new.
612  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 19, 2022, 12:48:45 PM
I can't stand coinbase.  What excuse do they have for this.  I wonder if the tech behind their custody is as shitty?  They have way too much power. They are a liability.

Armstrong will be known as a shrewd opportunist that obviously did not understand what bitcoin was, but rather slowed down it's inevitable rise.

613  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: April 19, 2022, 12:30:42 PM
XMR has broken out of the 4+ year downtrend...

Ya beat me to it.

Kinda cool that we also topped out right at that last high.  And I think the next zone is in the .008 range.

I would say one more thing.  The narrative is strong right now as well.  The sort of "proof of keys" type movement going right now seems to have some actual legs.  People have finally realized that the insane leveraged interests in Monero are almost certainly heavily influenced by Monero's killer property.  You can't see the Binance wallet.

Along with the world waking up to the looming specter of digital privacy disappearing at an alarming rate.

We *could* be on the front end of a perfect storm gentlemen, though I am a permabull and will be saying the same things even if we drop 80% lol.

After 3 vaccines (last one in December) I've finally lost my super powers and court covid . Don't want any sympathy as its just sore throat and runny nose. This is nothing compared with the Australian flu that nearly killed me 4 years ago

Hopefully it is not too bad for you, as it was not for me.  The vaccines were a failure for sure, in my opinion. Whole thing was about a week for me with the middle 3 days being the only really bad ones.  I think the most important bits are to stay hydrated, and don't exert yourself much... You'll probably be tired.

The elites know. But does the Joe Shmoe public know?

We may all die because of this, but it's interesting as hell to watch, isn't it?

Yeah that was a huge mistake by the Russians... flagship of the Black Sea fleet had been hit....

Those Russian generals/admirals are completely retarded or what? It's clear that this attack was masterminded by NATO/US, but c'mon... it's a flagship, just 3 similar ships in the Russian navy... completely unprotected within reach of Ukrainian missiles?   Huh

At least our fucking military still works... and we can pull off some good deep state shit.  Even if it is all compromised by whatever poison has taken over the American government.  I still have hope that there are some "good guys" left, and we stand a chance to see them make a move much more complicated and glorious than the sinking of an old cold war enemy's prize ship.  The restoration of honorable men into power and justice for those who have been carrying off one of the biggest deceptions in history.   Or maybe I have been fed too many Hollywood fantasies for my brain to still be able to process reality OK.  Or maybe there is no hope for the old US since it has been infected so badly and for so long becoming a source of much of the injustice rather than a light on a hill. Or maybe some of all those things are true.  Interesting times, for sure

No offense to any Russian WO members.  But one thing that has been on display for a couple months is what a broken disorganized trash heap the Russian military has become.  At this point it SEEMS that whomever is really pulling the threads behind the scenes could wipe them off the world power stage in a matter of months.  But, all at the same time they STILL sit on an operational (?) world ending arsenal of nuclear weapons just like the US.

OR?  Is this all some ridiculous psyop.  It's hard to say. The fact that one of Russia's only real gems of their military was just destroyed by... well by what?  I mean it's sort of beautiful.  But at the same time the Western media has been co-opted by... whom? And is examining it's own asshole while some of the most intense stuff in 60-70 years is going on in the world.

Musk has revealed himself to be a MASTER of the win/win game and revealed that he is aware of some of the puppet mastery going on behind the scenes like the Saudi control of the TikTok for adults (TWTR).  He is deeply flawed, but he is also ... deep.  His childish autistic persona hides well the fact that he actually has been shifting into a position of extreme power while most of the world throws him parties for a decade.  Richest man on Earth and all...  And he may even be one of the only rogue, non captured power players on the stage as evidenced by things like Bezos' own Washington Post publishing headlines of the dangers of billionaires trying to take over media outlets. Maximum Lol, that.

All this while WWIII chugs along at a brisk pace.  The world war that most of the world slept through. While they themselves were one of the most fertile battlefields as the power for the keys to the slave machinery are fought over by...  ... ...

Someone wake me up if we ever figure out who is winning.  Or whose side we should be on.

I mean a NFT that represents a real world asset is sorta more interesting......

Is it now?

Here is my NFT for sale for a 1000g gold bar. I'll even sell it to for 20% off of spot price....

I think your missing the point.  Nft as a public register for land/property etc can be very useful

I think the one way this is useful and secure is on a Bitcoin rooted semi-trusted sidechain. It's a disaster on any fat layer 1 like ETH et al. But I could see a set of government entities banding together using a fedarated sidechain to do land/title registration.  THAT is where this goes I think.  We do not need full Bitcoin level security/distribution, but we don't want to build this on a decentralized blockchain used for everything else either.

For what it's worth, this is also how blockchain based EMRs (Electronic Medical Records) could be built as well.  Shit that's a billion dollar idea...

Liquid would be perfect for this.  It could even be run by governments.

I have always been a fan of Dave's sensible analysis.

But he is kind of a "see I told you so" type personality.

This will make the move that bitcoin does that blows up all his models PARTICULARLY sweet when it comes  (I think it is a when rather than an if!).  Of course he will point out somehow that he had accounted for this possibility all along.  I dunno.  Maybe he will be a good sport and bow to the force that blew up his models.  It will be especially good if Bitcoin does it in a way that validates the S2F model for one last moment before blowing it up too.  In that case PlanB's model will outlast Dave's by a smidgen.

The scenario in which the above happens is EXTREMELY bullish, and would be great for us OG holders.  It really can only play out in a move to over 100k BEFORE this cycle is over, and then a good start on the "supercycle" that others have mentioned.  It is looking less likely now than it did 6 months ago.  But it COULD happen.  I will never give up!
