841  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Can we still mine from home? on: December 10, 2014, 05:21:44 PM
I mine from home.

Currently over 12Th/sec using a mixture of 40+ Antminer S1's, some S2's and some Gridseed G-Black for Scrypt mining.

I have the Utility room of my house setup for mining, I changed all the 120V plugs to 240V and between the 6 dedicated circuits combined they can provide around 23KW continously without tripping breakers.  There was already 1 circuit for several plugs in there, 1 for the dryer, 1 for the washer, 1 for a fridge, and 1 that is only shared with the lights, So I only had to run 1 more circuit.

I have average biling for the year which is based on the previous years bills, in which there was no mining going on so this year is very cheap for my 12,000+Kwh I am hitting.

So the anwser is yes you can mine from home, just need to make some simple changes.  My goal is to have 100Th/sec mining at home in the next 3 months.

PS Main thing is cost of electricity and converting your outlets to 240V.

How many people have recieved working units from Xbtec?  Just wondering cause hey do seem legit, but only time will tell.
843  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Custom Rigs... Hardware on: December 08, 2014, 10:31:04 PM
Unless you want to build your own asic, hardware, software.  It is better to buy in bulk from the current manufacturers.  It is true you can make more if you do it yourself but revinventing the wheel will probably be in the millions, and have MOQ's in the 1000s.  On the plus side you will have a multi petahash farm when your done assuming you can provide a datacenter for all this equipment to live.

I am sure there is a point where ordering from Bitmain, Spondoolies, etc etc is adding to the overhead but I am sure you wont beat their pricing for hardware till you basically start your own company or partner with one.

With coupon I can buy one shipped for 960.  Can you do better then that I would be interested.

you will pay COD and taxes on that though.

Nope. No tax importing tech to USA. That's clean shipped to the door.

seriously? i had to pay 13% HST on most hardware imports to Ontario

That's Canada for you.

Yup I live in the USA, and have had over $10K in stuff shipped international to me no customs or taxes.

If you find a source that will sell small quantities, I will buy some too.  All I found is very large orders.

200Gh/sec @ 1000W
Looks to maybe be rackmount and is about 3U in size.

I think its the same as the Visionman 200 if you know those.
847  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 4 Terraminer IV's for sale on: December 06, 2014, 07:13:44 AM
I will offer 1.1 BTC and I will pay shipping and escrow for all of them.
Where are you located?  We can probably ship for relatively cheaper due to shipping discounts we get so how much would you be willing to pay for all of them shipped?  Who would you use for escrow?  I'll also point out that I'm a really old member here form 2011 and haven't ever screwed anybody over and haven't ever needed escrow for any deals to date but if you want to escrow and are willing to pay the fee I don't mind as long as it's a reputable escrow.

They would be shipped to Houston TX 77055.

Probably use OgNasty for escrow it has always been a smooth transaction with him.

I can do 1.4 BTC if your paying shipping.

I have a LightningASIC 200Gh/sec, Avalon2 based miner.

851  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Thailand on: December 04, 2014, 04:15:43 PM
Your good to mine, just no exporting or importing.  Here is the word from wiki.

In July 2013, Bitcoin Company Limited said it had given a presentation to the Bank of Thailand about how the currency works in a bid to operate in the country. At the end of the meeting, "senior members of the Foreign Exchange Administration and Policy Department advised that due to lack of existing applicable laws, capital controls and the fact that bitcoin straddles multiple financial facets... bitcoin activities are illegal in Thailand". The ruling means it is illegal to buy and sell bitcoins, buy or sell any goods or services in exchange for bitcoins, send any bitcoins to anyone outside of Thailand, or receive bitcoins from anyone outside the country.[78] However, since February 15, 2014, according to a letter from the Bank of Thailand, the current situation is that bitcoin can be traded in Thailand so long as it’s only converted to/from Thai baht.[79] So bitcoin cannot be used as a way of converting foreign currencies in the nation. Bank of Thailand says it has no plans to expand the laws to regulate bitcoin.[79]

They have some pretty big mining facilities in Thialand so I think your okay.  Some of them even caught on fire recently.

853  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining equipment Question For Mining experts using 220 V electric on: December 04, 2014, 02:52:51 AM
Putting the machines on the ground will not hurt them in any way.  Grounding in the USA protects usually the exterior casing and other things that make shock or cause a short.  So if you ground the casing by placing it on the ground it is almost the same thing, however just laying it on the ground probably won't provide you much protection.

For the most part in the USA most people that work with computer based equipment will see 3 voltages 120/240/208 most modern PSU's are full range which means it handles all 110-240 so your 220 should not cause an issue if you have full range power supply.  PSU's can handle small voltage drops as long as you don't drop too fast and below 105v.  More then likely it is something else if your PSU's are having issues.

Do you have 50/60 hz?  I would get a multimeter and check voltage and maybe a frequency counter if you want to see if your hz are changing but I doubt that is the case.

Hope this helps
854  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Fire hazard and bitcoin mining at home on: December 03, 2014, 08:20:18 PM
Buy some self activating fireballs.  I have one on top of each of my metal wire racks, and also tempered glass between each shelf and miner to prevent one from killing them all. If the heat and fire actually spreads the fireball takes care of the shelf and the room.
855  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Anyone else blow a transformer? Whats a safe load? on: December 03, 2014, 08:00:10 PM
Sorry for the noob question but do we have transformer outside of every house? I can't find mine..

Depends on the power build out design.  My house shares a transformer with 3 houses; I have also seen a large transformer power one whole side of a street of houses.
856  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Anyone else blow a transformer? Whats a safe load? on: December 03, 2014, 07:58:44 PM
I think you mean 200Ax240V if your in the USA.

Most houses have 2 phases of 120V at 200A to max your circuit you would have to use both phases that are 180 degrees off from each other.

To anwser your question to be safe you should use up to 80% of your max load continously.  So for like mining you should be using 160A per phase, if you have all your miners only on one phase of your house try wiring your circuits for 240v to balance the load.  Or manually move some of your miners to the other leg so one side of your circuit is not maxed.

I am currently upgrading from 200A to 400A and their installing new poles, transformers, meters, etc etc.
857  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: KnC's new Solar chip to obsolete all current ASICs - an end to mining diversity? on: December 02, 2014, 07:35:59 PM
If KnC can find the technology to make these really efficient chips, so can all the other vendors.  They will all get around to it and keep leap frogging each other to make better chips so they can sell more product.

Quick update on the Bladecenter H 2880w breakout boards, the bare PCB will leave the factory on monday or tuesday.
They will reach me at the end of the week.

Very nice. Can't wait to try these out.

Deal is made and payment sent.  I will update the thread with a reply once I receive the miner.

Thanks again.
