521  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: July 25, 2016, 07:32:40 PM
The choice given was fork or not. A majority of the aforementioned groups chose the proposed HF, including F2Pool. I guess they found that they had to, as they themselves suggested. I am sure there are people who disagree with how "democratic" it was, but the existence of Ethereum Classic shows that there was a choice. And, ironically, they're the ones who have decided not to respect this choice.

You're contradicting yourself here. If there is a choice, and some choose one way and others choose another way - which part of this you're having a problem with?

That's how crypto forks work. Even a single dissenter with a CPU miner could keep the original chain alive. Should have thought about that BEFORE supporting a hard fork instead of expecting "respect" after the fact.

No, there is no contradiction. The community as a whole chose the proposed HF. That does not mean that every single person chose or was in favor of the HF. That isn't a requirement either. But if you're going to remain in the community you have to at least act as if you've accepted the decision.

What ETC has done is to ignore this. They've decided to not respect the choice of the community and create an altcoin. Which is fine in crypto. But what isn't fine is them running around spamming Ethereum threads with misinformation about Ethereum and their new altcoin.

Otoh it does show their lack of seriousness and will accelerate their decline into insignificance.

If you have a problem with someone spamming you should report it to moderators.

Part of the debate is what is Ethereum. It would be sort of weird to report it to the mods before these questions are laid to rest, or at least discussed.

I get the appeal to emotion. You're doing the same thing though. "misinformation", "altcoin", etc. The fact is - some people clicked "No" in Mist and are now on a different chain. Calling it names isn't any more serious than anyone else spamming this thread.

Do you disagree that there are two chains and two coins now? If so, we need to contact all these exchanges and get them to withdraw the latest addition. And they both are altcoins, btw. Regardless of your emotional life.

I'm still failing to understand what exactly is the issue here for the pro-forkers. Everything seems to be happening EXACTLY as it was supposed to happen after a hard fork. Misplaced expectations perhaps?

People disagree. The world is not all rainbows and unicorns.

But fuck them, right?

Welcome to the real world, buddy!

The real world you created by forcing "consensus" with the illusion of democracy. In the real world those votes get thrown out. Look what has happened here.

is this project (Ethereum Classic) in relation with ETH ? i am confused please let us know the different between the two if not ?

Ethereum Classic is original ethereum before they did a centralized fork.

In other words: it's a new altcoin without the backing of The Ethereum Team, without the backing of The Ethereum Foundation, and with their own tokens called ETC at exchanges.

They have their own thread too: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1559630.msg15702715#msg15702715

But for some reason mr.bitpop has decided to hang in this thread just to confuse people.

524  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: July 25, 2016, 11:25:22 AM
Last I checked the ETH developers implemented a design to make this possible.

They gave us the means. They created the wallet for this project. They have pledged support to this project.

All you had to do was click "no" in your wallet. Then you were on ETC. You had to disagree with a change for technical reasons. It had nothing to do with your vote.

This is within the design created by the Ethereum project that forked away from the chain.

Yes but this thread is about the immutable chain which is ETC

Is this the kind of stupid you expect to build your community on?

You might disagree with Vitalik about the way forward, but anyone with half a brain knows who made this thread and what it's for.

Vitaliks team wanted to take Ethereum in a different direction than you. They got the miners, users and exchanges to follow them. So you created an alt.

And you have accepted this. You don't call it Ethereum. You call it Ethereum Classic. All the exchanges use the abbreviation ETC for this new alt.

Eth from the original Ethereum team is still listed as ETH. Unless ETC is just a project meant to troll Ethereum I suggest that you clean up these distinctions so that users can make an informed decision between Ethereum and your Ethereum Alt. Like Expanse, Lisk and others have done.

Btw, why not sell your eth, move to Expanse or Lisk and boost those projects? At least they have a clear profile, active devs and some USPs.

It's amazing how much stupid I see coming from this thread.

Vitalik's team created ETC. They got the miners, users, and exchanges to follow them against their will. They were given a "choice", not a choice. The process was not truly democratic. A pool voted against it and was forced to fork. The pools that voted for it had terrible turnout. Turnout that was so bad any true democratic process would have thrown out the vote and tried again. Is it not true that if I send 2 Ether to the "yes" wallet and 1 Ether to the "no" wallet that both would count? So, if I wanted to have a thousandmillion votes I just needed to be the next Soros, right?

Is that a democratic process?

Is that consensus?

Does it even matter now? We've already heard from enough people to know that there are people within the foundation that disagree with the fork and have committed to helping ETC.

Or are you willfully blind to the statements being made?

You say they had the miners. We're showing you they didn't with hashrate. We have new pools joining every day, and more miners joining as they find out about us.

You say they had the users. We're showing you they didn't with volume, price, tweets, threads, etc.

You say they had the exchanges. We're showing you they didn't by getting added to more exchanges and those exchanges issuing the tokens ETC holders are owed. Bitfinex and Shapeshift coming soon.

What more do you need to see there isn't a consensus here?

How about this thread on Steem?
https://steemit.com/ethereum/@pigeons/conversation-between-vitalik-and-exchanges

You've never had the support of the exchanges or the pools. They were forced.

http://www.coindesk.com/hard-fork-ethereum-dao/

Did you really have the support of the miners? This article suggests you didn't.

F2pool said:
"We are as a matter of principle against unduly rushed or controversial hard forks irrespective of the team proposing and we will not run such code on production systems nor mine any block from that hard-fork. I believe this is universal and it could be applied to ethereum, too. I fail to see why we must take such a controversial and risky hard fork. We are not willing to deploy this hard fork unless we have to."

Consensus? We have it. Do you?

Fitting.

Excuse me, maybe I don't understand so I repeat the question.

Cannot this be dumped to nothing by VitalikEther followers?

1)   they have balances in ETHClassic and they will dump them
2)  they can mine ETHClassic with their equipment and they will dump.

One thing I don't understand (related to point 1.)..
If V. Buterin had let's say 1 million ETH before HF does it mean he has now 1 million ETH AND 1 million ETC?

exactly

But this is not the fault of V. Buterin that suddenly a second coin was created, no? This coin should never be created in the first place. Look how it is dropping, the thief is just dumping all his coins on us. He will runaway with $50,000,000 and we will have a worthless coin, correct?

I doubt he is already dumping. He is probably not that stupid.

The dumpers are probably people that do not understand what a hard fork means and consider this "free money" that appeared in their polo account.

What do you meran, not so stupid? The price has been dropping a lot, so most likely he already cash out. This coin is own 80% by the thief. Around 10% was still on this fork, correct? The thief stole for $50M when ETH was trading at 0.02 or so. Now ETC has a marketcap of $60M, how much do you really think is not part of the thief? Also most likely the people that didn't swap forgot about their coins in total. so almost all volume that is being created is coming from the thief. Strange that Poloniex added this coin. Really strange.

Can you explain the math behind your logic here? I'm curious, how does the "thief" now own 80% of ETC?

If you would like to mine on http://pool.ethereumclassic.com/ by rented hashing power you can now do it so with NiceHash:

1. register an account at https://www.nicehash.com
2. go to Account / Manage my pools, enter pool details:

Pool URL: stratum+tcp://pool.ethereumclassic.com
Pool PORT: 8008
Username: your ETC address
Password: # (you actually have to put # char for password, see here for details: https://www.nicehash.com/index.jsp?p=news&id=91)

3. go to Account / New Order and place new order.

Keep on hashing!

Best regards,
NiceHash team.

Only problem is a lot of users report not getting payouts from that pool, one user also reported a social engineering attack.

Better if people use the coinminers pool.

Where can I get the windows client for ethereum classic?

I used this one.

https://github.com/ethereum/mist/releases/download/0.8.1/Ethereum-Wallet-win64-0-8-1.zip

You need to do a clean install. Make sure to backup your ETH wallet if you already have one. You need to select "no" to fork.
531  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: July 24, 2016, 09:42:28 PM
lol this is ridiculous all forked coin didn't  be splited

Not all forks are the same, though.

I finally managed to get connected to a pool at pool.ethereumclassic.com.  However I don't see it updating the immature and mature counts for my address.  Anyone else run into this issue?

Supposedly nobody has been paid by this pool. Use the coin-miners pool for now.

https://ethc.coin-miners.info/

Suprnova pool coming soon.
533  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: July 24, 2016, 09:35:40 PM
So is running the official "mist" wallet w/ rejecting the DAO fork the same thing as ETC?

I would run this: https://github.com/ethereumclassic

Check the blocks between the two to compare if you are on the right chain.

Problem is I cant find windows builds anywhere =( ... are there any?

I used this build here
https://github.com/ethereum/mist/releases/download/0.8.1/Ethereum-Wallet-win64-0-8-1.zip

Remember to select "no" to dao fork.

That's what I did. Worked like that for me, but I didn't have a previous "mist" installation. I think if you did you would need to rename the folder in appdata or whatever the equivalent is on your particular OS.

Before you flame me, yes, I have screwed up bad. That being said, is there any way to fix this situation?

I sent a test to Polo from what I though was pre hf mist. It worked and I was given 13 ETC for the 13 ETH i sent along with my ETH. So I sent 400 eth but apparently something went wrong, user error I am sure. It looks like I sent 400 ETH to the polo ETC wallet address. My test worked, but the big transfer didn't. So now I can see 400 eth that was sent to the Polo ETC wallet address successfully but no conversion of any sort. this also took the ETH from my post HF wallet as well. I have a ticket with Polo open but wanted to ask if there was anything I can do on my side to recover the 400 ETH? Any ideas? I later found a splitter contract that apparently is designed to avoid this exact situation but I am a day late and a dollar short.

I am willing to offer up a reward to anyone who can help me recover. Any ideas?

ETH is not ETC - you cant send ETH to ETC wallets and vica versa they are different chains.

That's not what he means, though. He means when he sent his ETH to his Polo wallet that he sent ETH to his ETH wallet and ETC to his ETC wallet in the same transaction. He tried to replicate this with a larger transaction and didn't get the same results. So, I guess he needs to find a way to open his wallet on the other chain.

You could try installing the mist wallet in a VM and selecting no to hard fork and then importing an old backup of your wallet, if you have one. You may have ETC in your wallet on the other chain, if that makes sense.

Someone is playing dirty Smiley

Both ETC pools are under ddos. My rig will not connect anymore...

Anyone knows of a third one?

http://pool.ethereumclassic.com/
http://ethc.epool.io/

Suprnova pool is coming soon. Be patient.

Rumor has it ethereumclassic.com is phishing and not paying out.

epool.io payouts decreased so much, idk what happened there. Ocminer runs great pools. Wait for his and you will definitely have a good pool.

coins-miners has a pool too I believe. They are a trustworthy pool. I have used them before.

edit: https://ethc.coin-miners.info/#/

Can't be sure this is the same coins-miners I used before, but this is another ETC pool.

ETC being on Polo adds an interesting dynamic to the saga.

Hey jc congrats to legendary Smiley

ETC (re-)earned my respect for doing this, it's a pretty good choice IMHO.

Loading up the blockchain currently for a dedicated ETC pool

A Suprnova dedicated ETC pool? Great news.
