601  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Gold And Silver Maple Leaf Coins To Sell For Bitcoins on: March 08, 2011, 11:37:09 PM

Sorry, I checked and I have to pay VAT if you're outside EU. Not interested in silver if that's the case. But fractions of 1 ounce of gold sound terrific. What can I buy?

How do they know what your buying? Would you have to pay vat if someone gave it to as a gift? How is possible that you have to pay a tax to someone without them having ANYTHING to do with the transaction, especially since the transaction is started in another part of the world completely free of the EU's jurisdiction? WTF?

Why is it 4 hours ago I had 10 btc total bounty now I have 0 and no payout?

I apply several updates for system.
Some updates include money recalculation, you just catch a moment when old results deleted Smiley

Am i still in that moment? because it still says 0.

Actually I just checked under "money" and its listed there. Should it stay under bounty? Or does that go away when the block is confirmed?

I'll have to agree with you on this one. Like you said, give a few dollars to someone in need and include a leaflet about Bitcoin with the cash. Maybe they'll turn those dollars into Bitcoins.

Or you could just get one of these stamps and stamp it on his forehead for everyone to read!
607  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Self Inking bitcoin stamps! on: March 08, 2011, 03:52:27 AM
Oh, sorry, dunno how i missed that the first time

It was at the bottom so I put it in red above the pic after reading your post.

Price is 18BTC/USD shipped in the us.
How many do you have?

Only 4 or 5 right now.
609  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: malicious "gifts" on: March 08, 2011, 12:39:02 AM
The problem specific to bitcoin is how difficult it would be to track down the person who paid for the item.

Trying to kill someone by sending them something they are allergic to is a very chancy way to go about it, but if there was no risk of being caught (mined coins + tor) there's bound to be some assholes who would try it.

Your forgetting a factor here.. Common sense.

Who the hell would eat something that they had no idea where it came from?

mmmm forbidden doughnut.....

On second thought, I don't like this, especially if you try to use these notes in real shops.

I think it's ok it you give the note for free, for instance for charity.  But trying to force it into circulation is a bit too an aggressive advertisment method imo.

Are you serious?

I could put a million dollar bills with bitcoin all over them into circulation and that would be like a drop in the ocean. No way is that aggressive.
613  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: btc supplemental income on: March 07, 2011, 10:02:03 PM
If the difficulty level stopped at the next estimated difficulty level (78 000) and the exchange rate stays the same, you would need 5-6 x 5970. Unfortunately it probably won't. My guess is that you need at least 20 x 5970 to get $10 000 this year after electricity but excluding initial costs.

I've heard $2k for a dual 5970 setup.. does that sound right?  I see the subject changed from "mining is profitable" to "mining is marginally profitable".  I suggest the next title: "mining is no way in hell profitable"  Grin Grin Grin Grin

You could probably build one for a little cheaper, not much, though. maybe 2000 BTC.

I built my dual dual 5970 setup for ~800.

615  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: New pool with proportional and pay-per-share reward distribution, ~50 Gh/s on: March 07, 2011, 04:06:12 PM
How accurate are the hash rates on the 'my account' page?

For example, Ihave 2 instances of poclbm running and it says a pretty steady number of 298mhps on both. So just under 600mhps. But the server says Im hitting it with 650mhps. Is this a graphic issue on my end?

I think the server only calculates it for that particular 7min interval you submitted a hash block in.

Regardless, my question still stands. It always says my hash rate is higher than what I am seeing on my end.

Answering your original question, I would do proportional.

Hitting four 5 hour blocks in a day might make you change your mind. Wink
