It doesn't have the "too good to be true" scammy odor.
This is a case of "too true to be good".

-snip- However freebitcoin givesaway so many things so the house edge is our way of paying it.
All that effort to say that the more you wager, the larger your potential losses?

Well... yeah...
5% edge is pretty high. Even a significant number of slot machines have a higher RTP.

Congress want to ban libra in any way
Well, obviously. When you have something disruptive to your monetary industry which offers control over other people, analogous to a religion, you would want to remove it as quickly as possible.

It's clear.
1307  Economy / Gambling / Re: bustabit – The original crash game on: November 22, 2019, 03:36:20 PM
Our mind tends to remember bad things that happen to us, so everyone of us is prone to remember situations where we lost a lot of money or got the feeling that games are unfair etc.
Let's not forget the impact of holistic exponentiation - the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. When you play for less-likely events (with the same house edge), you will notice the smaller events less than the larger ones. This is why people are addicted to jackpots and don't focus on their losses, despite having outweighed their winnings.
1308  Other / Meta / Re: Question on: November 21, 2019, 04:49:54 PM
So that is that easy in this Community?
Yes.
The reason why a user was banned is because they broke the rules.
1309  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcointalk is not an investment on: November 21, 2019, 04:46:30 PM
I have seen some similar "insight" from the Altcoin Discussion board in which people discuss accounts, nonpaying bounties, and other fringe aspects of Bitcointalk.

It's good that you outline job security in a campaign, or rather the lack thereof. Something you missed was that if an account has a mismatch between its rank and its quality of content, it's likely that they will not be accepted in any non-alt campaign, and moreover in the case where they spam (which is often) they may incur bans, temporary or not.
1310  Economy / Reputation / Re: actmyname reputation thread on: November 21, 2019, 03:32:29 PM
I think this is incorrect use of the feedback system.
Ironic how we have no time for fun in these trite times.

Assurance of DT feedback should be verified through the reference rather than the comment. In that sense, the comments are more-or-less irrelevant.
1311  Other / Meta / Re: [POLL] The Official Dirty Turds Poll - Which DT needs flushing first ??????????? on: November 20, 2019, 03:02:19 AM
Well, we are not expecting you to go through all of the posts on the forum, but perhaps a sensible analysis of just the posts on the thread that you are choosing to comment on would be optimal.  It seems unlikely that a time constraint would consistently lead to your sole selection of our posts only that need to be criticized especially where there are higher frequency and higher density of other users on those thread using ONLY ad hominem attacks that are not even mixed among/based upon valid and irrefutable points.  It is not impossible that a time constraint could result in such selective or randomly allocated criticism ending on our doorstep alone, but each time that it does pass over everyone else and does land on our door step alone it becomes increasingly improbable that could be the sole explanation.
This paragraph was constructed due to a miscommunication.

If I had both the free time and the desire to go through all posts and extract only the non-ad-hominem fragments of the replies, then I would do so. The latter is the bigger factor in this.

Also I don't believe that our comment meets the threshold for not as bad fallacy in this instance.
Unless you want to twist meaningless semantics, there are no partial fallacies. The idea of a threshold should be no different than "is" or "isn't" - a binary state.

statements are not strictly ad hominem when you take the full context of the thread
Depending on how you define 'ad hominem' you could falsify this point by attacking a premise. Nevertheless, I shall state: you should not see a non-quoted statement that is a character attack, to then subsequently change your opinion and decide that it is in fact not a character attack, once you uncover preceding events.

How would context make the following remarks not ad-hominem?

  • chode

And then once you answer that...

Refer to my post's comment about "two wrongs don't make a right".

I'm not even sure that one can say that calling a skunk a skunk is an attack anyway, no more than calling an undeniable scammer and undeniable scammer
Refer to the above for examples of non-scammer insults and attacks.

especially when discussing skunks being present in places they have no business being and scammers being in places they have no business being.
snide

only that your points seems to lack the accuracy and indisputable relevance and strength [...] [t]herefore the impact can be seen to be reduced or even nulled in full.
A single point, an individual conclusion... it is either true or false.

So that is what we meant by not as bad, perhaps not as applicable, not as relevant, not as clear cut, not as indefensible  etc.
These are justifications, are they not? If they were not justifications, it would be not as bad. An objective statement as opposed to a subjective statement. This is simply downplaying severity, which is on a binary scale.

We appreciate ad hominem is ad hominem, we simply dispute that post is clear cut as adhominem in the full context.
Addressed above.

Certainly you would have less problem presenting your point as clearly and undeniably valid with many other posts here by other members.
That is true but this has already been addressed in the first post.

Or even just for a change to mix things up a bit with a view to being neutral and all of that kind of thing.
Neutrality does not necessarily mean addressing both sides equally.

I have no idea why you do not just join with the debate.
I have better things to do.

Or again it could be a time constraint or lack of interest. Those are certainly possibilities.
Yes.

As we say we have no direct issue with you actmyname, and are always willing to be cordial and fair. We ask the same.
I have always been fair. Blunt and fair.

Are you seriously going to continue to selectively apply your counsel
On a technical basis, I am being selective. If I had both the free time and the desire to go through all posts and extract only the non-ad-hominem fragments of the replies, then I would do so. The latter is the bigger factor in this.

[other ad-hominem attacks] that occur instantly on our threads that seek to derail and destroy any real chance of a debate on the central and core points being raised?
Refer to my post's comment about "two wrongs don't make a right".

I would only ask that you appear early on in our threads and give the same counsel to ANY member that starts with ad hominem attacks or going off topic and relevant at all. If you refuse to do so then we ask respectfully that you refrain from selectively injecting your criticism in our specific direction.
Selective truths are still truths. Whether I nitpicked the ad-hominem attacks of JUST you or everyone else doesn't take away from the fact that the post was an egregious display of ad-hominem argumentation.

I mean if you are to objectively remove all valueless content and that of negative value then meta would likely be a very sparse place.
True of all boards.

I think you will find that if you are really taking ad hominem then we are far less guilty than most ( that do not receive your counsel)
"Not as bad as" fallacy.

A discerning reader will almost always cut away ad hominem anyway
True. Doesn't mean it's warranted regardless.
Any questions?
1314  Other / Meta / Re: The inclusion of large, unnecessary images in threads. Opinions? on: November 19, 2019, 07:28:53 PM
One thing that annoys me when I'm in the press section is I always see the posters including the thumbnails of the news article in their post
Most of the Press board is a shitpost anyway, so this isn't really igniting an ember to a forest fire as it is igniting the remains of the Hindenburg.
1315  Other / Meta / Re: The inclusion of large, unnecessary images in threads. Opinions? on: November 19, 2019, 07:05:08 PM
Huge images in post #1: no problem as long as it does not obstruct reading. These are usually because there are some elements that cannot be recreated with bbcode, or can be more-easily recreated without the use thereof.

Huge images in post #2 onwards: problem.
Images fragment reading and create a separation between what precedes and follows the image. Moreover, the incongruent forms of media between the text and the image further blossom into the separation.

What I find absolutely reproachable is when one decides to insert an non-resized image in the middle of a discussion, which totally breaks apart my 'rhythm of reading' when following a thread.
1316  Economy / Reputation / Re: Known Alts of any-one - A User Generated List Mk III (2019 Q4) on: November 19, 2019, 06:58:04 PM
Aren't the bounty managers checking if the accounts are meeting the bounty requirements?
Short answer: no.

Long answer: No. Bounty managers have to oversee (often) hundreds of participants for a low reward, because the token cost is $0, because most altcoin bounties don't care about paying the manager that much (it's cyclical, a death spiral to 0) or because the tokens/coins/etc are outright scams. Bounty managers probably also take on multiple bounties and so you'll have culmination of the lack of effort from all sides (client, manager, participant) resulting in this kind of shit.

-snip-
No, what I mean to say is that CSW's methodology has been analogous to that of religious evidence in various doctrines that you can see nowadays.

It is less about empirical or theoretical evidence that has substance and more about loosely-connected, circumstantial or contrived facets of proof which may not have a fundamental foundation on anything but faith and/or cognitive dissonance induced by habitual actions.
In the BSV case, it would be people justifying their use of BSV and faith in CSW being satoshi notwithstanding all the contrarian remarks.
1320  Other / Meta / Re: [POLL] The Official Dirty Turds Poll - Which DT needs flushing first ??????????? on: November 19, 2019, 05:38:25 PM
I am going to cut out all the ad-hominem attacks so you can see the substance of the post.

Even if others use ad-hominem against you, it detracts from your post substantially when you decide to enter the same path of argumentative logic.
