@CryptoFunGuy

Do you coins ever show up?
1503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: leaked video explained the recent pump of litecoin on: July 16, 2015, 03:14:42 PM
They are probably buying back in now that the price is much lower.. Maybe this was their plan all along to be able to pay the promised returns.

Yes, think about it from this angle. If they did happen to double or even triple the money and can begin paying everyone back, it will only fuel a larger pump on the next phase. If people were investing 500 LTC each back when it was $2, there has been plenty of opportunity to sell back at a profit. It will be even bigger now as all the successful investors will word-of-mouth this "amazing investment opportunity" (the scheme) to family and friends thus recharging the scheme for an even greater run. After all, if the test run was such a success, why walk away from all that profit potential now?
1504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ltc Going back Up on: July 16, 2015, 03:40:50 AM
The lower it goes the more I am accumulating. Actually even if it drops to $1 or under I would be fine, as I cannot help shake the feeling we have another pump before the block halving hits in late August.
1505  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Litecoin Online Wallet - https://CoinWallet.co on: July 15, 2015, 10:01:49 PM
I recently opened a CoinWallet.co wallet to store my LTC coins. Your FAQ page says you require 6 confirmations before the transferred coins are applied to my wallets balance. I had 14 confirmations and the transaction still would not show up until about 10 minutes later when there was then about 20 confirmations. After they finally showed up in my CoinWallet.co account as a received payment, the problem continued and the coins are still in limbo I guess you would say, and they are not showing up as any type of balance, not even a pending balance...

Screenshots of CoinWallet.co Account:

I have PMed you my username / email to my account.

Thank you so much!

All the previous posts mention this as being a scam.. Why did you send any coins to them? Not very smart..

And 200 coins at that, why not test with 1 or 2 and once you were comfortable send the rest?

If they would happen to show up, I would recommend getting them out of there regardless. Last post in this thread were accusations of it being a scam and no one has posted since September 19, 2014, until your post again today.

7. Giant asteroid hits the earth, wipes out all but two humans, fortunately a man and a woman who are able to repopulate the earth after some centuries of hardship. No ones give a rats behind about crypto anymore.

6. Price goes nowhere for halving, maybe even drops, everyone sells thinking its dead, price drops back to $2 and then boom, shoots to $40 after large players shook everyone out of the cheap coins. Wink
1508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is officially dead on: July 15, 2015, 02:27:46 AM
5. Price shoots upwards of $40 again and keep rising. All this worrying if you bought at $2, $4, $8 is little more than academic at that point. Smiley
1509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is officially dead on: July 15, 2015, 02:11:19 AM
so... moon at halving, right?

I guess we will know sometime around 08/25/2015.  http://www.litecoinblockhalf.com

I am not really hopeful after reading this.

Litecoin Price Technical Analysis for 14/7/2015 – This May Turn Real Ugly!
http://www.newsbtc.com/2015/07/14/litecoin-price-technical-analysis-for-1472015-this-may-turn-real-ugly/

That article seems a little over the top on gloom and doom, consider this quote from the article:
Quote
Will the market be able to recover from this catastrophe or will it go downward?

Really, catastrophe? lol

Zoom your charts out a little fella, we are still up compared to even two weeks ago. Anyone who didn't expect it to go down after such a rapid rise shouldn't be trading. It will go up again, how fast who knows, it may even go down more, but its certainly no catastrophe.

Is this a change is stance for them then? I thought I had read somewhere in the past that Russia had banned Bitcoin.

Title: RUSSIA'S BITCOIN WEBSITE BAN OVERTURNED IN RUSSIAN COURT
URL: https://archive.is/YFd80
Date: 16th of May 2015

Just goes to show that only the negative news get mass media attention. The ban was splashed all over the place, while the acceptance seemed to get little attention.
1513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many friends did you recommend bitcoin to? Did they accept it? on: July 14, 2015, 05:12:37 PM
Even though I have heard of Bitcoin before, a friend of mine actually got me to look into it more seriously. He even gave me some old miners he had (well sold them to me pretty cheap) and helped me setup mining an alt coin (Vanillacoin). So far it seems to look very promising and I should make my investment back soon. I also have played with Litecoin and of course Bitcoin on the exchanges and have made a few $$ profit.

My friend told a few other people as well, but I think most are still hesitant to get in. Myself, I seen that Bitcoin bubbled before and also thought it just another get risk quick scheme, so I admit it took some convincing for me to join in. I think Bitcoin still has shady taint to it out in the world and will take some serious credibility to get past that image. Having just read that Back-page is now accepting it, I think the image problem is still going in the wrong direction.

So while I am starting to learn more about it and believe in it, I don't think I am at the point I would go around recommending it to other people. It has a steep learning curve and just reading various threads on this forum it seems that it is still too easy to be scammed.

Thanks for the input. I know Windows probably isn't the safest option, but I do not know Linux well enough and would probably be more at risk do to my lack of knowledge with it.

I have had no trouble so far with my main desktop, I just want to be more cautious as my balance grows. I kind of look at it as my real $$ wallet has never been stolen off my nightstand, but that doesn't mean I would keep $1,000's of dollar in there, I would put larger sums in a safe or bank.

I am not sure about paper wallets, but for now I am thinking the dedicated laptop will be fine. I do not plan to use it other than when I would need to transfer the coins. It is old but functional, and I plan to buy a new SSD, so everything should be clean from the start.
You don't need a SSD for such a dedicated device. There is also the question of a backup since there is still a probability of a Hard Disk failure.
But again, there are other people, who can answer that question better than me.

The main reason for a new SSD, other than to be sure it is clean (no virus, root kit, etc), is because the current HD is an older spinning disk and is very slow. Its space is also very limited. I can get a new 256 GB for around $100 so I am not too concerned. Plus this way it should be a bit more reliable going forward.

You bring up a good point about backup. Can I just back the wallet up to a USB stick, or maybe a couple? What are the best options and recommendations?

Thanks!

So as I understand it, each public address that I see in my wallet is actually just way to credit coins to a private address. So if I had a wallet with a hypothetical 100 BTC in it, is it safer to store it all in 1 address or break it up into different addresses? Do I need different wallets or is just having several addresses more important?

I understand if my computer gets hacked, etc., I could lose it all, so it is safest to store on PC that is not used for other things. My question concerns more if the private address is compromised, would someone get all my coins or just what was on that private address?

First question, it is advisable to keep your holdings into several offline addresses specially if it is of a large amount, though a single offline address in an offline machine coud also help you in keeping your precious bitcoins.

Second question, what do you mean by private address? Private keys? Kinda confused on this one.

Yes, I meant private key I guess. So is it better spreading it out across different public address (private keys) was the question, which I think you answered with the first. Smiley

Different wallets aren't that necessary, different addresses may help you achieve what you really wanted to do (keeping your bicoins safe.) The most important thing you must know in keeping large chunks of bitcoins on a certain machine (because I'm really getting confused and it's 5 am here) is that never connect it to the internet. Keeping your coins on a machine that is connected to the internet has higher risks of getting compromised than a machine that is never connected to the internet.

I hope I answered your question already, because I got dizzy by just reading the questions. Sad

Thanks for responding. I think you are getting dizzy as I do not know how to correctly ask my question. Smiley Just when I think I understand it, I find I don't...

So, do I need to sync up the wallet first or can I just put on a new Windows install on a new HD and install updates, etc. Then install the latest wallet version. unplug the Laptop from the Internet, fire it up, generate a new key (address) and then send money to it? How will I know it is there?

what's your goal? cold storage ?

I guess it would be called cold storage. Basically just getting my long term coins off of my everyday computer.

Ok, I guess now I am back to the confusion I had in the beginning. So the number of keys in a wallet does not matter, it is same risk if all credited to one key or spread across 10 keys on the same wallet?

My plan is to re-image an older laptop with an upgraded HD and use it only as a wallet. I would keep my bulk there and keep a smaller amount on my main PC. So my question boils down to is it sufficient to just place it all on one address in that new offline laptop?
