1521  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Wallet Questions on: July 13, 2015, 08:24:47 PM
So as I understand it, each public address that I see in my wallet is actually just way to credit coins to a private address. So if I had a wallet with a hypothetical 100 BTC in it, is it safer to store it all in 1 address or break it up into different addresses? Do I need different wallets or is just having several addresses more important?

I understand if my computer gets hacked, etc., I could lose it all, so it is safest to store on PC that is not used for other things. My question concerns more if the private address is compromised, would someone get all my coins or just what was on that private address?

@ Za1n - if you want to learn more about PoS check out the HBN thread and their wiki   Wink

Thanks for pointing me to the HBN wiki, that was more the type explanation I was looking for regarding staking.

I think the OP for Vanillacoin should include a better explaination of such features, as we are not all experts with these concepts.
1523  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Beware of CoinBase on: July 13, 2015, 06:48:05 PM
I just recently signed up with Coinbase and have had no issues so far. I have only made purchases and have not tried withdrawing, so can't comment on that side yet.

My only gripe is the bank transfer delay to get funds in (I assume delay in getting them out as well) and the fact you need to buy at the current price. It would be nice to be able to place orders on where you wanted to buy in at.

I had signed up (first post here) on July 4th. I have seen people requesting to be signed-up after me with their names now on the spreadsheet, but not mine. I have made the 20 posts and have checked that my signature and PM space meet the requirements.

How do we know we have been accepted? Seems pretty sketchy so far...

at page 1, you can check the google doc link for any update.

if your usename on the list that's mean your enrollment was received.

Thanks, but yes that was the spreadsheet I referred to in my post.

Is there no other confirmation?

Is the ulterior motive to have a lot of people just keep advertising in their signatures in the hopes that they get accepted?

More Staking Questions

Ok, so I read on official forum a response that seemed to imply staking could happen anytime between 8 hours and 365 days. So I get that it is a random event somewhere in that time-frame.

Now my question relates to how long do I need to keep my wallet open. I realize no staking will occur if I do not have the wallet open, but say I close it and don't open it for a month, or a year. Will it then have the same chance of staking? So hypothetically, say I don't open my wallet for 365 days, according to my interpretation of that the post I would be guaranteed it to have it stake at that point?

I guess I am just trying to understand if there are any negatives to not keeping the wallet open 24/7.

Thanks

I have been accumulating Vanillacoin in my wallet and was wondering at what point can I expect it to start staking? I have left my wallet open for over a week now, is there something else I need to do? Thanks.

Is your wallet unlocked?

Yes, it is and has been unlocked.

In that case, I would imagine that it have to do with the total amount of coins and their stake weight...though I would think that a week is a bit long to have to wait.

They will stake though...

There's nothing else you need to do.  A week isn't long at all.  If you only have 1000 coins, it could take over a month to stake.

Ok, thanks.

I was mining them and sending them to the exchange originally, but then read about the PoS, so started routing them to my wallet. I thought I had read it would stake around 3 days, that is why I was becoming concerned. Does the amount of coins you have in your wallet affect it as well?
1528  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: leaked video explained the recent pump of litecoin on: July 11, 2015, 11:35:29 PM

sad to combine a ponzi scheme, they could just invest normal.

I don't think this has been proven either way yet. As a matter of fact, except for one little part that mentions 500 LTC, I don't even think the video has been 100% confirmed to be the same address everyone is talking about. Does somewhere in the video show that address?

Perhaps it is related and they do plan on investing normal, there are other powers at work too. The DDOS happening just before and during the time of the crash for instance.

Lots of pure speculation going around imho. I would like to see the whole sales pitch translated and not just a brief clip of some talk about a guy driving around china and briefly mentioning 500 LTC at the end.

1531  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The litecoin dump isn't over yet on: July 11, 2015, 12:20:25 AM
$ 4.43  just now. Peoples that they sold  on $8 or $ 9 must be happy now.

Yes, I am very happy!  I also bought more at just under $4 and will think of selling some off at $5 if it can break past it again soon.

Otherwise even if it falls back under $4 again, I am comfortable holding as the block halving is still a little while away and I think we have more upside until then.

Good for you!

On reality nobody can to know if it will fall until < $1 again, but could be that yes,if this was only a pump, but anyway you have your strategy defined to whatever the case, anyway you get a good profit already. You are a smart guy.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as conceited, but now re-reading it I see that it was. I was (am) just excited as most of this is fairly new to me.

I don't know, but I suspect the "true" pump is all these threads claiming there is a pump going on....

1534  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin is officially dead on: July 10, 2015, 10:12:29 PM
I think it is a long way from being dead, just a much needed pullback.

This is the time to buy if you ask me. Don't go in all at once, but come up with some type of plan to invest. Dollar cost averaging is your friend.

1535  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin predictions. on: July 10, 2015, 06:27:40 PM
This pullback was needed regardless of the reason it happened. Now LTC needs a couple of days to cool off and a slow march forward again to make this rise legitimate in the minds of many. Everyone was ready for it to crash any second was probably just as instrumental in the fall as was the manipulation.

Also, it is helpful to keep in mind we are only back to where were were 2 days ago price-wise. If this holds, or at least can maintain $5 I see another uptrend in the works. If nothing else we still have the block halving coming up.
1536  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: leaked video explained the recent pump of litecoin on: July 10, 2015, 12:23:50 AM
Today litecoin volume is higher than bitcoin volume, is this the first time?

http://www.coincap.io/

I don't know but when I was clicking on the sort by volume I noticed there is a Taco Coin!!  Second from last in volume, but hey its Tacos! Gonna try and buy a few just because....

You heard it here first, Taco Coin pump incoming.
1537  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 2015 The Year of The Litecoin on: July 09, 2015, 11:43:33 PM
I now think we will hit $10 before any type of significant correction (meaning sudden drop of $2 or more). These 50-75 cent pullbacks are not too worrying anymore with the price getting this high (5-10%).

After that I think next resistance looks to be around the $12 level, looking at prices last year on the way down. If LTC clears through the $12-$14 range without too much trouble I would say we are looking at a potential return to $40.
1538  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin XT Status Update on: July 09, 2015, 03:42:23 PM
I do not pretend to understand all this bitcoin fork talk, but am I to understand that  some type of change is going to take place that could put bitcoins at risk?

Could someone explain in simple terms what actions I would need to take to protect the small amount of bitcoins I do own? Is there a time period I should perhaps cash completely out and wait until this is settled?
1539  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Litecoin Could Become the Best Investment of 2015 on: July 09, 2015, 03:29:34 PM

Litecoin got pumped by a single entity.

That entity could have been an exchange, a mining rig manufacturer - who knows who and who knows why.

You got the point, I guess the exchange maybe is OKCOIN as their have the highest volum.
If people noticed that the trading volume of LTC in Jul, 8 have more than 34M, that's got be kidding.

I do not own LTC so am not biased either way.

I see no reason to assume that just one party was behind the recent "pump"

Some people have concerns with BTC right now and are seeking to hedge/diversify. LTC seems like one of the most viable options at the moment (hash rate, merchant adoption, etc).

I do own LTC but agree with your analysis. The market is more complicated now than one group or person playing a huge influence. I expect the BTC discussions are indeed impacting the price somewhat, as LTC is considered somewhat safe amongst the many alts out there. Also the upcoming LTC block reward halving is certainly influencing the recent rise. I seen in another thread where someone in China is also pumping LTC. I am sure each of these events is playing a role as well as many others we are not currently aware of.
1540  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Litecoin Could Become the Best Investment of 2015 on: July 09, 2015, 03:23:39 PM
People been saying "it is a bad time to buy" when it first hit $3, then $4, $5, $6, now its $7.

The time to buy in is now, not when its > $10.

My point is say you bought 100 LTC when it was $3, so $300 investment. If it went down to $2, you would have lost $100. Now it is $7 so you would have already more than doubled your money.

Waiting around debating as each day passes, LTC rises a bit more, and your risk becomes greater and potential reward becomes less. Right now that same $300 investment will only get you ~40 LTC and the likelihood of doubling you money decreases with each passing day. While people who got on early have already locked in the doubling of their investment and are now looking for 3x, 4x profits. As far as risk, buying now and having it crash to $2 you would lose most of your money. This is my point of the reward prospects are decreasing while the risk is increasing.

I don't think it is too late for more up, but now is the time to act and not when its $5, $10, or even $20 higher. Think of the people who waited until it was $40 last time to buy in....
