I use it all the time. It is a universally os compatable solution. I have bitaddress.org and everpassword.com/aes-encryptor saved to my usb drive.
When I want to make a new offline wallet I just fire up ubuntu OS on a live disc. Insert my usb drive. Open up bitaddress.org. Generate my keypairs. Copy and paste them into the aes-encryptor. Choose a strong password. Encrypt. Copy and paste the encrypted string into a txt file on the usb drive. Copy and paste just the public keys in plain txt into the same file. Restart into windows. Print the file with OCR text and presto!

Blockchain.info regularly sends me an encrypted backup of the wallet I have stored with them. According to the email, I can either use their online services or "standard Unix tools" to decrypt this backup. Now, I assume they mean using the openssl command line tool or something, but I am having trouble figuring it out. I have tried the following: openssl enc -d -in /Users/User/Downloads/wallet.aes.json -out /tmp/wallet -aes-256-cbc and since it looks like it might be base64 encoded, I also tried openssl enc -d -in /Users/User/Downloads/wallet.aes.json -out /tmp/wallet -aes-256-cbc -base64 However, the first one gives a "Bad magic number" error and the second one gives an "error reading from file" (so I was probably wrong about base64). I also tried both of these with aes-256-ebc. I maybe be having the same issue. Decrypting is not working for me at all. Also their API is not decrypting their wallet right.

I use lastpass but man the passwords i use now for mtgox and all other websites I have been changing to 40 character plus passwords. My YUBIKEY CAN NOT ARRIVE FAST ENOUGH! Wish a regular YUBIKEY would work with MtGox though Hey TUX! Any chance of getting a MtGox Yubikey free or at least allowing us to use our own?

Tried again just a little while ago. Same error. {"error":"Error Decrypting Wallet"} I think I am going to go find another wallet service. Blockchain.info you can still redeem yourself but right now I need to find a wallet service that works for development. Time is money

Try doing an integrity check on the wallet's web interface. It's an option somewhere...
That was the first thing I tried. Sorry that I did not mention that. I sent a message to blockchain.info owner last night. it has been 11 hours and no reply yet. UGH!

I just went to http://www.everpassword.com/aes-encryptor and i pasted in the contents of my wallet backup. I entered the password I use on blockchain.info and it is not decrypting! I know this service works, i have used to well in the past. I just did a test and http://www.everpassword.com/aes-encryptor is working just fine. I can log into the wallet no problem but I can't use the API nor recover my wallet backup! WTF!?

I am giving the API a shot and trying to get my balance using the following url https://blockchain.info/merchant/my-guid/balance?password=my-passwordand chrome downloads a file called "balance" in this file are the words {"error":"Error Decrypting Wallet"} What's the deal? My GUID and my PASSWORD are correct. Using My Wallet service works fine, it is the API that I am having issues with. Thoughts?

casascius, I think you got a winner here.
I am looking for creative visually-appealing artwork (a drawing), not a form design. I recommend using just regular printer checks. You can even print the public key where the bank routing numbers would go.
I am looking for an image to go into a freeware program or website that enables anyone to print nice-looking bitcoin cash on plain paper on their own home printer whenever they want. I am not trying to create physical bills myself. Upon printout at home would someone be able to use ANY type of paper or would check paper be used? Would be cool to print on parchment or construction paper :-D

I think the edges and grooves need to be more defined in a darker color, but other than that, i am diggin it!
Can you make an EPS or PDF file available?
|
|
|
will this be paper? Will this be like the bitchecks that people are kicking around with the checks with the private key hidden with a hologram or is this something new?
I am not a designer but I can help with perhaps the process and if a website needs to be built around it you can count me in!
Casascius drop me a PM.

I'm really confused right now, do I need to send someone else another coin? I apologize for messing everyone up. Not sure who is next but if you send me one I will cure your guilt! 12kM9BocNb5zSG7RMKp9wPxopK5NpayrMZ This is really a cool experiment

Hey Flatfly! I see your hosting is back up! That is great!
What is the status on the 0.61 build that includes that nifty new gui?

That public address became public on June 27th, the day it was first used. Anyone could have sent funds to it. Any address that gets used for transactions anywhere becomes public knowledge. There is nothing to support the conclusion that MtGox sent the money to that address, though it's reasonable to conclude that MtGox is sweeping it off and into your account as it arrives.
If someone is sending me money then by all means keep sending it! LOL Thanks for clearing that up.

As hording continues then the price of BTC will continue to rise?

MtGox doesn't show your funds until they have swept your balance into a new address and THEN seen 6+ confirmations, and the fact that coins got sent does not support the conclusion that MtGox is "reusing" your private keys. Anyone could send funds to anyone. If they are reusing your keys, this is to their own detriment, not yours.
However, MtGox has indicated that once you import a private key, they remember that private key and will sweep any new incoming funds into your MtGox account.
I have made no withdrawals today at all on mtgox. This is one of the keys in question. http://www.blockchain.info/address/1MY8vPCE1oeAQShg5Qi9EAr6n7MLAhTtQjI am looking at my balance on mtgox now and it says i have 0.00740000 BTC. I had zero the last time I looked today. I am really confused. I have no idea wtf is going on. It is nice to see btc but where did it come from and why is mtgox debiting and crediting 1MY8vPCE1oeAQShg5Qi9EAr6n7MLAhTtQj. There is no way my mtgox account has been compremised. The funny thing is this public address 1MY8vPCE1oeAQShg5Qi9EAr6n7MLAhTtQj is not know by ANYONE until this post. So how the hell is it being funded!? Is this a glitch?

OP you must have missed the whole point of bitcoin: to give 100% control back to the people of their money. By putting your wallet/bitcoins in a safety deposit box you have essentially given back that control to the banks.
Suggestion: Use a brainwallet so you can remember a phrase that would decrypt your private key.
What if passphrases clash? As in what if someone else has the same passphrase? Like a sentence out of a book or something.

bitcoin is not a currency, it is a token where people have an agreed upon understanding that 1btc = something.

You're right. I called the company to find out more about it. I guess since they're new they still have to work on getting coverage in every state. They said they plan to have Texas covered by the end of the year.
Perfect timing! LOL
