Perhaps you have some Loonies left over from your last trip to Canada or perhaps you frequent that country often on business. I would be happy to exchange BTC for CAD notes or coins. Local Starbucks in Kingwood would be a nice place to meet.

Nice service.
Here is simple feature request: What if you let people publish their quotes at some other web site? A small Java script, that allows some type of style settings will be really easy to use for this. If it's not too much trouble, a image with Bid/Ask @ Location will be also really cool.

409  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Multibit transaction not confirmed. Not according to the block! on: July 24, 2012, 12:03:57 PM
Multibit connects directly to the Satoshi nodes to get its blocks. There are no extra servers.

You do not have to keep it open - once your transaction appears in a block the next time you open Multibit it will download the block and update the transaction status.

Stephen's comment is in case your transaction is not yet in the network. I think you have checked it on blockchain.info in which case it has definitely propagated out.

Well this sucks.

Hey SatoshiDice people! QUIT GAMBLING FOR TWO FUCKING SECONDS! LOL
410  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Collecting BTC equivalent to collecting Real Coins of Historic Value? on: July 24, 2012, 11:53:19 AM
If I were to answer whether "Collecting BTC equivalent to collecting Real Coins of Historic Value?" I would say no.

Reason being real coins are considered antiques because time is a variable that effects real coins and not a bitcoin.

A bitcoin is a bitcoin and although some might have been around longer making them older it doesnt change any property of the bitcoin. Physical coins get new mints and what not, they change, different just about every year, thus making the ones that are less in or even out of circulation more valuable to a collector.

I mean I guess in theory you could have a bitcoin collector but what are you paying for? Say you could put two bitcoins in your hand, one old and one brand new. There wouldnt be a single difference because every bit coin old or new is exactly same as each bitcoin.

Its part of what makes a digital currency a digital currency right?

Maybe we could assign value to the bitcoin based on a few factors.

Say you have a factory and it makes t-shirts. Lots and lots of t-shirts.

The value of each t-shirt is worth 1btc

Now say Elvis wears a t-shirt and gives it to a fan. It is still a 1btc t-shirt but.... it was worn by ELVIS! I will give you 5btc for that t-shirt!

Same thing as bitcoin. A btc is a btc. But, maybe they HISTORY associated with that bitcoin or that TRANSACTION is of significance. Or perhaps a private address that was funded by another address where you KNOW that address is linked to, say Satoshi. That would mean a lot of value to.

Thoughts?

But how do you assign factors like that to such an anonymous currency? And to prove you elvis did give you his bitcoin then you would have to make the currency not so anonymous anymore kinda defeating the purpose of bitcoin right? But hey, I guess you could do it!

Anonymity only goes so far. The anonymous nature of a bitcoin goes out the window once it is traded.

Take the market places for example. Joe Shmoe wants to trade some bitcoin. Well then! All he needs to do is send btc to a mtgox address linked to HIS account and then place an order. Well now we know that these coins that mtgox has in their hot little hands belong to Joe Shmoe. Well now someone wants to buy bitcoin and the system fullfils it. Sends this new guy some coins that Joe has deposited. Now if you want to look at any coin that you have gotten from MtGox you can trace back the transactions to beyond MtGox and then you can use that as a starting point to see what other addresses funded that origional address before it was sent off to MtGox.

It could take a little time and effort but I betcha you could end up linking the coin you have with a real person.

Bitcoin is anonymous. The people that are attached to the transactions are NOT.

Sure someone could use a disposable address and only use it once, but give it time and someone will mess up. It is all public knowledge.

Haha, woah. Just trying to fix my problem. They might be the obvious methods but im looking for a fast easy method. Didnt know that put me in the possible scammers category. I mean, is that what the majority of people do on here? The way everyone talks about scamming here makes it sound like the odds of someone mugging me and taking my cash are a one one trillionths to a trillion compared to getting scammed for my bitcoins.

Scamming in the bitcoin world is much more probable than getting smuggled, robbed etc in "real world". If you scam/phish anonymously, there is very little risk involved, With physical robbery, the criminal takes huge risks, if you start to think about it.

I guess people have their Good side and their Bad side. Just like people on this forum have their GOOD accounts and BAD accounts.

Their GOOD accounts they act good. Help others, etc..

Their BAD accounts they tend to pray on other users trying to scam them UNTIL they get tagged with a SCAMMER tag. And then they just create another account and do it all over again.

I bet there are more active accounts on this board than there is active people LOL!
412  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Multibit transaction not confirmed. Not according to the block! on: July 24, 2012, 11:38:01 AM
I am not sure if there is any way to 'override' a transaction that is already out there - perhaps a miner reading this thread would know better as to what works.

There was a proposal by a bitcoin.org core developer that would do something to the effect of allow any party to add to the fee paid for a transaction.  I don't think it got very far, and definitely isn't implemented today.

The only thing you can do to help a transaction get confirmed is to leave the client running if there is a chance the problem is the transaction just didn't get propagated and that the client would rebroadcast it.

i am not sure how multibit works. Do I need to keep the multibit client OPEN or is that taken care of with the multibit servers?

414  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to verify a person's DOB without private information on: July 24, 2012, 11:29:27 AM
Well the only way I can think of to confirm age within the context of bitcoin would be to create a bitcoin address for someone at birth and use that address to "prove" their age. But with anonymity how do you know they just didn't buy an X year old address plus it can only track age from when the system is implemented.

Maybe the whole idea of age verification for anonymous violates the rules of anonymity.

Sigh...

My birthday was last Wednesday people! Hook an aging brotha up! LOL
415  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best way to acquire bitcoins if your under 18? Harder than you think :/ on: July 24, 2012, 11:27:45 AM
Yeah, but let me throw out a scenario. Its 3 in the morning and I need some quick bitcoins. I cant go anywhere to get them except for the internet.
That's not easy or even possible for anyone, and age has nothing to do with it. I'm sorry if you're battling with agoraphobia or something, but you may have to leave the house in order to get bitcoins.

How does age have nothing to do with it? If I was 18 I would have multiple ways of funding online accounts to buy bitcoins with. That would in turn make it possible to go through any exchange site getting rid of my problem.

You are under 18 and you still have multiple ways. Reread what I have posted. I have given you great ideas.

I here ya man, problem with a loan is what about next time? I dont want to take a loan out from someone every time I want some bitcoins. Just a reliable method that I can repeat without any changing variables.

I am not saying take out a loan ever time you want bitcoins. I am just saying to take out a loan when you need it quick and you can pay it back when places like the bank are open Smiley
416  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best way to acquire bitcoins if your under 18? Harder than you think :/ on: July 24, 2012, 10:28:25 AM
Oh and BTW. Try and put a payment address in your profile text or your signature. You never know! I have had people randomly give me btc just for the hell of it and I never know who it is from Smiley

<----------- see?

I suffer from agoraphobia and I find some pretty ingenious ways of putting as much distance as possible between me and people and getting the job done.

Again... go for a LOAN. Just ask man. State your case. Say you need a Loan of say 2 bitcoins and you will pay them back within 24 hours with interest. Say 7 percent. And then pay back 2.17 bitcoin and you are good to go!

Be sure to tell the lenders what you need the bitcoin for. Now if it is to buy drugs on silk road, try and be a little more discrete about it. Remember. Google spiders this site!!!! Don't need YOUR name out there associated with drugs now do you? :-D

you can most probably also just hand cash to someone and they will transfer you BTC instantly.
