161  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: HELP - Brand new APW3++ 1600w PSU - NO OUTPUT ? on: May 09, 2018, 03:08:58 PM
How cold was the PSU when you did your test? If it was straight out of the shipping box and ice cold from the plane ride, it might not start. The PSUs are notorious for not starting around 10c and under
162  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: X3 Mining ETN - High Discarded/rejected Amount? - Low hashrate on pool? Low pay on: May 08, 2018, 11:31:10 PM
The discard rate is pretty meaningless as a performance metric, its totally normal.
163  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: who bought bitmain Z9 will face a big issues now on: May 08, 2018, 11:07:47 PM
No. It is only 8 million.

https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/zcash-difficulty.html
The calculator on wattomine also shows around 8 million. It is not difficult to take over a gpu coin by using asics.

You are linking a chart of DIFFICULTY when everyone else is talking about HASH RATE.

They are two wildly different things. I think you are confusing yourself. Either that or you dont understand how crypto works.
164  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: who bought bitmain Z9 will face a big issues now on: May 08, 2018, 11:05:15 PM
I bet you can't give me one solid reason why using ASIC Is better for every one and not just the rich .

Because you have to spend $10k in hardware to match the hashrate of the z9?

Because this gives much cheaper access to mining than dedicated gpu rigs?

Because it uses 12x less power for the same hashrate as running on GPUs?

No more need for expensive power supplies and overprices graphics cards?

ASIC isnt a synonym for rich and it is exceptionally ignorant to think so when you do the math.

This machine would actually let people get in on altcoin mining at a fraction of the cost of a giant GPU rig that has 60+ failure points.

You wouldnt have to deal with buggy software, bad risers, and all the other things that keep GPU systems from having quality uptimes.

ASICs increase network speed. Increased network speed leads to a more secure network.

How many more reasons do you want? I can keep listing them.
165  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: US Customs tariff change on: May 08, 2018, 10:43:45 PM
Are you going to challenge it? What are the options?

We are currently contesting it, but I think we are a ways out from an answer, customs doesnt seem to have their shit together on the specifics of the change either.
166  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: May 08, 2018, 10:12:46 PM

What a depressingly scumbag move by the zcash people. guess its time to find another coin that actually promotes freedom of choice.
167  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: May 08, 2018, 10:11:26 PM
I cant tell if you guys are just completely clueless about how new products are brought to market or you have just fallen for the propaganda machine against bitmain.

Of course they were mining on them before selling them. YOU HAVE TO TEST PRODUCTS BEFORE YOU SELL THEM. This isnt secret mining, its called product testing.

ASICs are a good thing, despite what all of the greedy GPU miners will tell you. A machine like the Z9 lowers the cost of entry into the equihash altcoin market. You would spend $10k on a GPU rig that produces an equivalent amount of hashing power. You can now put a miner behind your couch, in your kitchen, wherever you want basically because it only uses 300 watts. No more special power supplies, no more buggy miner software crashing every few days.  These things are so much better than GPU systems its not even funny.
168  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASIC mining reasons Destroying future value of ZCash (ZEC) ? on: May 08, 2018, 09:05:47 PM
Whats wrong with a ZEC asic?

10k sols = about 24 GTX 1070s at stock settings.

24 GTX 1070s at stock settings use ~3600 watts + 100w for the rest of the machine.

ZEC asic = 300 watts.

So you need $10,000 worth of parts to make the same hashrate and you burn 12x the power.

This will be a nice quiet machine you can run in any home off any cheapo ATX power supply.

This is a win/win for anyone wanting to mine equihash without breaking the bank.

You can also take this misinformed idea that ASICs promote centralization when that is so not the case. This machine makes it easy for anyone to get into mining without the complications of multiple unreliable GPU rigs.
169  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Phone Mining Electroneum on: May 08, 2018, 08:56:45 PM
Please post this junk down in the altcoin forum if anywhere. This is for bitcoin mining only.
170  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: US Customs tariff change on: May 08, 2018, 08:56:11 PM
Just checking if anyone has information on US Customs changing the tariff code of imported miners from duty-free 8504.50.4000 to a new code triggering a duty of 2.8%? I also heard this change is retroactive for all miners imported since the beginning of 2018! Obviously a bit of unexpected cost. Thanks.

Customs tried to make it retroactive to the beginning of 2017 and saddled us with an outrageous bill for it all.
171  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer L3+ - What would you mine and why ? on: May 08, 2018, 04:19:34 PM
You should just mine litecoin and keep it as LTC. Diversification of holdings is always the way to go.
172  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: CGMiner error codes on: May 08, 2018, 03:55:40 PM
128 is a transient code that pops up randomly. Just restarting the cgminer instance will clear it up. It will not affect anything permanently and in most cases the miner continues to hash just fine even with that code.
173  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: multi algo for antminer D3, L3, S9 ??? on: May 08, 2018, 03:44:42 PM
That site is 100% scam

ASICs are just that, Application Specific

Which means they were physically designed to do only one thing and do it very well.
174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New Antminer S9 more discarded shares than accepted on: May 08, 2018, 03:33:06 PM
The discarded shares are normal. Here is an example of a machine I have pointed to bitcoin.com (BTC side)

175  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Do you think miners will ever see 15$+ a day again on: May 07, 2018, 09:17:36 PM
You sound like one of those people that got in on the crazy rise in prices last year and were not mining before that. Those prices were never sustainable. You cant ever expect to make profits like that again as the huge price spike was an outlier that could never be maintained.
176  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 good hasboards but not hashing! on: May 07, 2018, 08:52:44 PM
On your miner's cgi-bin/minerConfiguration.cgi you could use F12 and find the <fieldset class="cbi-section" id="cbi-bmminer-default" style="display:none"> and <div class="cbi-value" id="temp_over" style="display:none"> lines and remove the display:none attribute to show the checkbox and see if disabling that thermal protectioin temporarily could help you to get the miner running again.

Disabling thermal protection is a terrible idea. IF it does start hashing above the thermal limit it will shortly catch on fire.
177  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 bmminer not starting on: May 07, 2018, 07:24:59 PM
That error has been exclusively showing up on 1117 firmware machines. The downgrade to the april firmware always fixes it for me.
178  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 good hasboards but not hashing! on: May 07, 2018, 07:23:28 PM
It says read failed for gathering temps so I think it is basing things off of the last recorded high temperature. Something weird going on there for sure.
179  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Overclocking using Airflow into Mining Room? on: May 07, 2018, 07:22:03 PM
You should focus more on removing the heat then pressurizing the intake side with fans. It will pull air through passive vents just fine.

Also, why are you running air conditioning? You are using the least efficient AC units possible, those semi portable types. Do they even run on 220? You really need to look into a better cooling solution, AC is not the way to do it.

I wouldnt blow intake fans right onto the miners, just because the air turbulence can cause those front fans to die faster than normal.
180  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Question regarding Antminers (newbie) on: May 04, 2018, 07:57:42 PM
There is no "s9-" its just the S9.

One of the most important pieces of information to know about a miner is its power efficiency. The T9 plus is way less efficient than an s9.

For example, a 14th s9 uses about 1400w. With $0.10/kwh power the s9 will cost $100 a month to run and produces a profit of $150

A 10.5th T9+ uses ~1530w. With $0.10/kwh power the t9 will cost $110 a month to run and only produces a profit of $80

So a pair of T9+ will only make about the same amount of overall profit as a single s9, hence why the T9 is half the price.
