I might be able to tell you where to find him.

See PM.

Its possible the android app is bloatware, uses inefficient algorithms or is written in a slower programming language to a point where it causes your machine to run slower.

Memory and instructions per second (ipc) are both limited resources and monitoring apps which consume a high enough proportion of it can leave less available resources for your miner resulting in degradation of overall performance.
5443  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bcchanger.com on: October 07, 2012, 07:22:35 PM
I own/maintain bcchanger.com. This reply is probably a bit late. We are working on integrating it with btcrow.com so all bitcoins will be in escrow until the buyer completes payment.

Anything else you want to contact me about please PM me.

Is that your site?

Maybe you can answer a question for me?   Smiley

Why are USD to BTC conversion rates on your site so low?

I was thinking of buying BTC.

But the rates are so ridiculously low it makes me question if the offers are real.

In a way it seems like it could be a scam.
5444  Economy / Lending / Re: Few questions for depositors. on: October 07, 2012, 06:50:54 PM
Inflation averages approx 3%.

Funds stored with lower than 3% yield means your cash is devaluing.

A 1% interest yield means your savings devalues 2% each year = 20% loss in value over a 10 year period.

A 3-4% bond is close to breaking even but there are risks involved.

If btc loans could sustain 10% - 20% returns averaging near to 17% above inflation with insurance that would be an attractive offer to many.

Even 8% - 10% would be attractive.

Why shouldn't the forums (and bitcoin overall) be shut down? Why shouldn't a central authority be set up to tackle the frauds that are so endemic in this community?

Central authorities do little or nothing to eliminate real frauds.

Healthcare fraud in the United States amount to something like $100 billion a year.

If you added all fraud from government programs it would be much higher.

The collective fraud of central authorities is much worse than the fraud contained in bitcoin or other alt currencies which are still in their infancy.

5448  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The future of Bitcoin is illegal on: October 07, 2012, 07:42:58 AM
There is only one reason for a normal person to want a Bitcoin - to break rules, laws, and regulations.

You're suggesting only terrorists & criminals use bitcoin?

What a thing to say.   Huh

There are plenty of legit reasons to support and use bitcoins.

1.  Economic stability.  Bitcoins are more stable than currency printed by central banks.

2.  Low transfer costs.

3.  Independence from banks, credit cards and others who have near to a monopoly on money exchanges.

4.  Protection from inflation.

5449  Economy / Lending / Re: Few questions for depositors. on: October 07, 2012, 07:25:18 AM
It's sort of remarkable that you ask if an interest rate of .5 or 1% is reasonable. Only a few years ago, savings accounts returned 6 to 8% interest.

With banks you're lucky to get .9% APY.

http://www.money-rates.com/savings.htm

I think you're mistaking .6% to .8% for 6% to 8%.

5451  Economy / Lending / Give me .1 BTC please. on: October 06, 2012, 09:45:31 PM
I'm requesting loans / handouts of .1 BTC or less.

I'm not offering ID or other assorted information as all of it can be faked.   Smiley

There are plenty of websites that sell fake ID's of high quality.

http://i-d-me.com/
http://id-u-s.com/
http://www.uk-id.com/

There are methods of faking other attempts at identity verification also.

Hopefully I didn't come empty handed.

Donated BTC will be used towards business ventures.

I will try to take the net sum (no more than 1 BTC) and attempt to eventually turn it into a million dollars / approximately 100,000 BTC whilst helping nurture and grow the bitcoin community.  If I meet my goals maybe I'll disclose the methods and techniques I used to achieve my ends and perhaps others will be able to replicate my success.

Maybe it would be pointless considering there are way too many get rich quick opportunists already.

For those who were scammed on this site I would eventually like to start a type of trust fund or foundation to repay whatever bitcoins were lost & eventually repay you in full.

This isn't a get rich quick scheme & I don't need more than .1 BTC to get started.

For loans, I offer decent % rates and time frames for repayment.  I'll go as high as 10%-20% per month.  Should be easy to cover on a .1 BTC loan.

Also for those who donate or lend, I would like to point out that if I succeed you won't only get 10%-20% interest -- you'll be a part of bitcoin history.

The only thing that sucks about this is it might take awhile considering I have limited manpower (myself) and time to make it happen & could well fail miserably in the attempt & embarrass myself.

Sound interesting?  Donation address in sig.

/Hopefully people here will tell me why this sounds like a scam if indeed it does.   Cheesy

If nothing else, I hope it will encourage those who request loans to offer more information & disclosure regarding why they need loans.

And if nothing else, I hope people catch on to how easy it is to get a good fake ID and possibly fool services like btcjam which aren't necessarily so trustworthy...

edit -

also, in the event someone chooses to donate or lend please specify which it is in pm or reply to this thread, thanks.
5452  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: 1600BTC loan + 20% interest over 6 months. on: October 06, 2012, 09:05:33 PM
What if BFLs ASICs turn out to be a scam & you're left with a big debt & no way to repay it.

What's your back up plan for that eventuality?   Huh

Seems like a big risk to take with unproven technology.

Diversifying your vendors & not relying solely on BFL can help mitigate the risk.

It could be considered borderline gambling though considering any number of things could go wrong & I doubt you've bothered to think about how you'd deal with unfortunate consequences much less repay creditors in the event something unanticipated occurred.
5453  Economy / Economics / Re: Why are people running around saying Bitcoin is intangible / not backed? on: October 06, 2012, 07:09:04 PM
Bitcoin is backed by cryotographic utility and the userbase advantages it provides in competing against other currencies?

Strange.

Their obsolete hardware is clearly visible & you have to dig a little to find their their next generation technology that's hidden away in a corner where n00bs like me don't notice it easily.   Cheesy

I wonder if this'll be like the playstation 3 launch where sony initially claimed a PS3's computational power was "1.8 teraflops".

Later the original estimate was corrected to something like "200 gigaflops" almost 10 times less than sony's initial claims.

On butterfly labs page it says

Quote
The BitForce SC chip is now in final stage development.

Is it possible to accurately test something that hasn't progressed beyond development stages?

I would guess the numbers BFL is citing are maximum theoretical performance and not actual performance & that the real numbers could well be significantly lower than advertised as it may well be impossible to test & benchmark components that have not yet finished development?

While BF's business model may not be a mail order scam, it could be a marketing scam as BF never claimed to have a finished product -- only a technology in development with theoretical performance claims?

BFLs The Single
$599
Performance: 832 MHash

versus

Quote
Radeon 7970
$400
Performance: listed as 685 MHash

The Single:  1.38898163606 MHash per dollar.
Radeon 7970:  1.7125 MHash per dollar.

The 7970 seems to offer better performance / cost.

 Cheesy

What am I missing?

5458  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Trust No One on: October 05, 2012, 04:39:31 PM
Considering how wary many here seem of scams.

Would it make sense for bitcoin to implement a form of reversing transactions?

Would that contradict the ideals and principles cryptocurrencies represent?
5459  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Building a super computer... on: October 05, 2012, 04:02:54 PM
Police view excessively high electricity consumption as a sign of indoor marijuana growing operations.  I guess you could erect solar panels, a windmill or other alternative energy source to feed your farm as a means of distributing your power generation and lowering electricity consumption footprint in an effort to avoid drawing attention.

Having a basement and using a crane to lower your machines into it, would make them difficult to steal without a crane.

Modifying the doors and windows of the room you're storing equipment in to be too small to fit your hardware through them could also be an option?  Its hard to steal stuff that is too big to fit through an open doorway.

Vicious attack dogs could add yet another abstraction layer of security to your existing model.

Insurance and backdoors installed on the hardware which dial home in the event hardware is stolen and reconnected could represent yet another means of eventually eliminating theft but unfortunately not doing much to compensate for intervals of downtime between thieveries.

2012-10-04 16:33:45: Listener for "Default": File "HttpTransport.pyo", line 45, in loop

I know nothing about error codes, but would guess 8332 (bolded) is related to bitcoin connecting on port 8333.

And that HttpTransport.pyo (bolded) implies a networking error of some type is crashing.
