No person or group of people rule the world. We like to sit behind our screens and make theories about who's in charge, and the conpirational methods that "they" use to keep us under control. The reason we do this is because it's more comforting for us to think there is "someone/something" in control, however nefarious they may be, than to accept the fact that the world is a chaotic and unpredictable place, where horrible things happen for no reason.

As gerXhonza just said, the real power in this world seems to be money. Some people do nearly anything to get it, and this simple fact can mould huge industries and governments into malevolent, corrupt monstrosities.
