There is no doubt about the greed that the gambler fell into. Otherwise, why would you want to take such a big risk? He might have been sure that he would win that bet. He had no idea that he might lose in that particular bet. But I doubt how badly his human condition could have deteriorated after losing such a large bet. Most people think that those who can place such big bets have enough money. However, placing such a large bet at 1.008 odds is quite addictive. when it comes to crowdfunding aspect, the person or the group should have their credibility to conduct this type of sourcing funds. because these days, people are not trusting anymore most anonymous projects. they know that they can easily abandon their project without a trace.

Correct, if you are in the process of learning how to trade losses are inevitable but at least you will learn some lessons out of it, but if you trust your money to someone else it is still very likely you will lose but you would have not learn anything from it, so your loss is in fact doubled because once you try to trade on your own you will still need to lose a few more times in order to learn lessons you should have already learned if you had tried to trade and learn on your own.
