eventually some child of ameratsu with enough yen to turn the crank on the japanese court system will take a civil action against gox so brutal that all the bitcoin and all the goxbux will not suffice to put mr. karpeles back together again, and y'all will be wishing you had picked another venue.
How can I get a subjective ranking of the alternatives... Here are my top 3 concerns 1. Trust 2. Trust 3. Trust There is a new option (for Americans) coming very soon that you can trust Give it a week or so! Will the announcement be so big I am guaranteed to see it, or do i need to be on an email list?

i prefer e.u. or british common law jurisdictions, so bitstamp in slovenia or bitfinex in hong kong get my highest trust rankings. i have always used bitfinex. i do not want a venue which reports on me to the occupation administration of north america. bitstamp has excellent liquidity, and all of it is available on bfx.

BTCGuild released 4 blocks in less than 5 minutes, very likely suggesting they are doing Selfish-mining. This is BAD, BAD VERY BAD. No one is doing shit about mining corruption, currently expanding like a cancer. I've been following the pools lately: https://blockchain.info/poolsBTCGuild 28% Today's evidence points to Corruption. Ghash.io 24% Proven corrupt. They sat at 33% just one week ago. These nasty cats are alert, and listening to people's disgust. On Dec 24 they switched off (I was watching the pools graph as it happened) 5% of their power which then instantly reappeared as Unknown. They either sold a part of are just masking it under another private pool. These last couple of days, another 4% chunk moved to (apparently) Eligius. Unknown 19% As stated above this secret lot grew by 5% a couple days back. I would assume even more of it is just Ghash's extra power, in hiding.. BROAD LARGE SCALE DISHONEST MINING CORRUPTIONWhy are so few people saying anything about this and even less doing something (I know there isn't a clear thing to do tho..)?? How many of the early adopters are in on this? Is this why this is being kept on the low? We are sitting right now at 52% corrupt network....

With all of the 'news' of huge money ready to come on the exchanges comes a small tidbit that many will find bearish: http://techcrunch.com/2014/01/01/why-i-lost-faith-in-bitcoin-as-a-money-transfer-protocol/As long as Bitcoin remains a young and volatile currency, Bitcoin’s mechanisms will remain beautiful on paper. Using it for real world transactions would be crazy, and I think we are still a couple of years away from getting a stable Bitcoin that can be trusted. Until then, using Bitcoin will remain a wild ride — it’s definitely fun, but don’t take Bitcoin seriously just yet.

Please study more accurate stats first: http://blockorigin.pfoe.be/blocklist.phpKinlo's site checks each pool's websites where blocks are reported and shares paid out. Blockchain.info attributes unknown/unlabelled blocks to the notifying peer. Remember that there can be many hops between two nodes in the netwrok. BTC Guild have a long track record of honesty.

I really tried to measure my words regarding BTCGuild, because after all, there is a small probability it is just sheer luck.. but I'm so damn furious about the mining ecosystem and situation that I got overexcited .. Ultimately you're right, they have the good track record, and I would love it for someone with a better skillset, tools and knowledge to look deeper into this whole thing, but I don't seem to find anyone doing it.

Uhhh just reading your post convinces me otherwise. Since when do the most powerful groups in any organization not take advantage of their power every now and then, even the most "incorruptible" I have far less belief in human decision making than you do I am afraid.

I don't have anything against BTCguild. I have had my miners pointed at them a few times and so far as I can determine everything works.
I changed to Bitparking so I could get the shitcoins along with my btc. Who knows? One of them might buy me a hamburger some day.
The luck factor is crazy. One period I can run for 232 hours without any income. The next thing you know you catch a block in 8 minutes. The gurus say that it all evens out in the long-run. ::shrug::

I'd recommend reading up on things before coming to conclusions and pointing fingers. What you posted is in no way unusual. Additionally, selfish mining doesn't apply to BTC Guild. As posted above, Selfish Mining is GUARANTEED to noticeably increase the number or orphans on the network. This not only makes it obvious its being done, but BTC Guild *pays for orphans* when its blocks are orphaned. BTC Guild would actually become unprofitable if I ever attempted to do selfish mining because of that simple fact.
