1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: You Hodling strategy on: April 13, 2018, 05:14:00 PM
I stick to the classical strategy and invest most of my money in bitcoin. But a lot of high-quality projects appear among start-ups emerging on the ICO, so sometimes you need to follow the new tokens.

At the end of 2017, the Binance ranked first in terms of trade volumes. I also began to use it and I like it.

Bitcoin is in crisis because of the downstream impact of ASICs.

Excuse me, you cannot blame technology for that particular crisis.  Or any crisis for that matter.

The rules are:

1 - Humans create systems,
2 - Humans game those systems for their own benefit,
3 - Crisis.

The particular technology in use any any given tine is not the problem.

There was too much pro-optimism bias in that review and some inaccurate statements about the security benefits.

I was left with the feeling that AISICs are always fairly distributed among a wide group of people, and those people are well intended.  That's not how things go.  After a while mining at breakneck speeds moves to monopolistic mining.  There was an admission that the evidence from Bitcoin has not been reviewed.  Please do that review before pushing the positives and papering over the negatives.

Brute hashing power is defensive, but not if it's controlled by a few or the wrong few.

One of the issues raised about the bitcoin block size increase is that because of the Great Fire Wall of China, if you increase block sizes those outside of China will have greater orphans because bigger blocks can't get out of the firewall fast enough, meaning Chinese miners get more of the block rewards, which would lead to others going out of business and even more centralised mining in China, and in the hands of just a few miners.

ASICs in this instance paint you into a corner you can't get out of because one group has so much hashing power.

Just use a little self-regulation when looking at the positives of ASICs.  Bitcoin is in crisis because of the downstream impact of ASICs.

Hi coins,

First thing is that I never billed myself as an expert in the mining industry.  I happened to be in the right place at the right time to do a site visit.  I am simply reporting my observations.  Several points you make are certainly valid.  If I sounded like a cheerleader, then so be it.  The X11 ASIC has escaped Pandora's box.  There's no putting it back in.  To quote Rafiki (The Lion King):  " Oh yes, the past can hurt. But from the way I see it, you can either run from it, or... learn from it."

Buster (if I can speak for him) would love to have you on his show in order to give your opinion.

DASH was billed as ASIC resistant. So that has to be taken into consideration.

"resistant" means that somebody would have to invest a lot of time and trouble to pull it off.  In this case, somebody cared enough to do it.

Hey Eduardo, do you want me to create an 8-round Darksend transaction for him to tackle? I'd be happy to do so!

I'd be happy to pledge some coins to this.  Let me know.

This is a common problem with mapping applications.  The data has zeros for latitude and longitude.  The map can only display what the data tells it to.  Computers are dumb frequently.

NEW PROPOSAL - DASH at Anarcapulco - Presentation by Juan S. Galt

Hello! Everyone.

This is a proposal to fund the purchase of a low tier sponsorship Package at Anarchapulco to deliver a speech about DASH, its potential, technology and investment opportunities to 500+  Anarcho Capitalists, entrepreneurs and cyberpunks. The presentation would be filmed and published without ads or paywalls at youtube.disruptek.info under a creative commons license.

I'm Juan S. Galt, I Interviewed Evan Duffield this December at Labitconf 2015, and have been researching Blockchain tech for over two years.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHklPfmHK_w

Anarchapulco 2016 is almost here, and its is a very unique conference, bringing together a community that I really believe has a lot in common with DASH's community and Ethos.

To give you a taste why this conference matters. Here's the TDV Internationalization and Investment Summit's speakers list.

Please vote YES and send our message to the man!

This is naive point of view. how many of retails have ever heard of crytpocurrencies? Not a signle retailer will want to keep DASH or bitcoin. Therefore its better to contact current market leaders, liek bitpay or diamond to incorporate DASH as well.

Sure, and nobody would want to buy a CD when there are phonograph records either.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DASH] Dash | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW, Darksend and InstantX on: January 31, 2016, 05:53:42 PM
This is why I think this budget proposal system needs work.
Please don't take this as an attempt to derail the good work you have done however.

Where are the receipts. Where is the accountability.
you asked for funding and you got it. Why should you get additional funding due to the fact you misquoted and need further funds.

We were told to ask for less than was needed to insure that we could squeeze out every DASH from the January Budget.  That did not even cover initial expenses.  Then the Conference organizers demanded $750 for the extra space and electricity for the machine.  There were other smaller items.

There has to be a line drawn, This is where my previous comments come into play. Had we engaged a company who built vending machines every day. Who incorporated Crypto payments into these machines every day. Would we have had these issues?

This is where you say there isn't any one doing this kind of thing. To that all I have to say is.. There is a market to become a business based off the back of these kinds of projects.
If a business misquotes work they need to eat the costs.

You say you aren't a business. Then maybe we should start giving these kinds of jobs to someone who is a business.

Emit.

Instantx is the single greatest feature in Crypto today.  Nobody in the vending industry (or any RETAIL) can incorporate the technology until further development is done.  We started doing it.

I have a question for you and everybody else reading this post.  How many RETAIL establishments are within 1 mile of where you are sitting, standing, walking right now.  How many of them could benefit from the following:

1 - Get rid of the 3-5% bank fees for all your transactions
2 - Get instant access to your funds instead of waiting for it to "clear" the bank
3 - Eliminate chargebacks from customers

I would say every single retail establishment out there.

Adoption is the key to success for any crypto project.  We showed how to do it.

Reimbursement Proposal for the Dash N Drink Instantx Miami Demo. The team Put in an original proposal to cover the costs of this project. We later resubmitted for a lower amount to expedite payment. There were significant costs associated with designing, building, transporting, and demonstrating this piece of awesomeness. You have to admit, it was a hit!

Below are the itemized expenses which will appear on our TPS report.
--------------------------------------------------------
Extra show charge for electricity and additional space. $750
Additional expenses for soda machine compressor. $200
Additional expenses for paint, paint gun, and thinner. $200
Parking expenses for vehicle and trailer. $150
Mobile Data Used $100
5 PIs and other parts destroyed during testing. $320
Several burnt up power supplies. $100
Hotel Expenses $430

As you can see, the amount requested does not begin to cover actual expenses. We are fine with this.

While I totally applaud the effort, no one will use these vending machines with Dash. They may use the blockchain and Apple Pay or NFC, but never Dash. Why? 'Cos you have to buy Dash to spend Dash.

The driver here is the merchant, not the customer.  The customer can simply use apple pay attached to a credit card because they don't see a cost associated with that.  The Merchant on the other hand, sees 3-5% bank fees, chargebacks, disputes, delays in getting funds from the bank.  DASH solves those problems for the Merchant.

It does, but the driver can only drive if there is an engine, and in this case that's the consumer.

A consumer will only consume if there is a necessity, or a problem solved.

If the merchant can sell a soda cheap enough for the hassle of the consumer to go out and buy Dash, bingo. Unfortunately, that is impossible right now. The actual Point of Sale makes it cheaper, but down the chain he'll have to convert to FIAT to keep his business alive. Add volatility, and the merchant is now a gambler. That is why BitPay et al. exist.

It's not viable for either at this moment. That, unfortunately, is the cold truth.

Why would anybody use email when we have a perfectly good postal system?

Why would anybody drive in an automobile when we have perfectly good horses?

Email is thousands of times faster, and free, and simple to use.

Cars are hundreds of times faster and easier to maintain.

Crypto-currency saves money on fees and takes control away from centralized banks and (currently) is complicated as hell to understand and use.

...there's really no comparison. The advantages aren't nearly as compelling.

But we definitely need to at least partially close the loop. We need people who once receiving Dash will respend that Dash instead of converting to fiat.

Agreed.  Make it happen.  Vote YES!

If you want to create a business off the back of DASH do it with your own funding and your own steam.

Don't lose sight of what DASH is trying to achieve. It is not ready for the type of adoption you are asking funding for. Further more it's not the kind of growth you want.

It should not be the focus of DASH to figure out how to make it mainstream. it should be the focus of DASH to design a product that others want to make mainstream..

With all due respect, that's what this proposal IS trying to do.  The goal is to create open source software that can be used by any retail application.  Vending, gas pumps, mom and pop stores, chain stores, online retail.  ALL RETAIL.  The goal of this project is not to make money selling soda.

The focus of dash should be on Dash. If Dash focuses its efforts on development and creating a solid baseline / structure. Other companies will develop around Dash and create businesses that can utilise the technology.

The proposal feels like throwing money at people for the sake of throwing money at people.
If you walked into an office and said "give me money because I'll use it.. Honestly"

There is no company in the world that works that way.

I understand the requirement to create a decentralised project. Please do not take offence to this.

None of you are qualified to run / expand a company.

This proposal is not creating a company, it is creating open source software that can be used for retail.  The people involved are more than capable of doing this.
