681  Economy / Economics / Re: If a pyramid runs forever, is it still a pyramid? on: July 10, 2019, 01:37:15 PM
I have been wracking my head trying to figure this out. I've been watching some schemes on cryptocurrencies and even though their complexity is very high, many all boil down to the same basic principle: a ponzi.

What my question is seeking to address is whether these ponzi schemes are indeed ponzi if a surrounding business takes advantage of it.

Ok, I did not make myself clear.

Let's think 3Dimensionally beyond the simple MLM, ponzi.

1. The pyramid is a hierarchical structure right? Now, imagine it being surrounded by legimate businesses. I mean most "complicated" and smart ponzis are like that and can run for decades. Think Bernie Madoff.

2. From the Ponzi, legitimate and real businesses are ran. In fact, an entire eco-system can be built around the simple ponzi. From investing in other legitimate investments to small brick and mortar SMEs, ponzi money can "expand" to so many horizons.

What are examples?

- apparel
- consulting services
- video content
- tradeshow and "TEDtalk" like events with pricey tickets
- VPN hosting services, etc, etc.

These allied businesses, are not in and of themselves "ponzi" but may have been capitalized with ponzi money. Now, if any of these endeavors "takes off" and perpetuates the ponzi or prolongs it, doesn't that make the ponzi not a ponzi?

Based on facts so far the scheme is a pyramid scheme, no matter how long it manages to stay afloat, its still going down and the number of years does not matte. But for those likening bitcoin to such scheme, what they have failed to do is to understand whats its all about which will still be responsible for them to wait till eternity because it wont fail that does not absolves the possibility of challenges being faced every now and then but its not going to crash like a regular pyramid scheme...
682  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Here is a list of some of the giant's industry enter Crypto recently on: July 10, 2019, 08:59:14 AM
Walt Disney? = Dragonchain

UPS = Blockchain tech integration

Citi ? = They do create their own Centralized shitty CITICOIN

They havent enter yet some of them are still on consideration state.

Thank you for this needed clarification because a lot of people would not even take their time to understand the nature of such release and the underlying factors that surrounds its implementation before rejoicing over what it is all about. Its not news that we have seen releases about Companies setting out to start to accept crypto or even waiting to implement their own blockchain solution module but eventually we didn't see anyone coming into fruition up till date. Hopefully in the near future we can have something to rejoice on but now, they are mere speculations.
683  Economy / Marketplace / Re: I need 5 sources of revenue to generate $200 each per month - Ideas? on: July 10, 2019, 08:06:43 AM
Based on the foregoing, I would suggest that Trading is still the best bet and you are not the only one in this situation. Several people work 40 hours a week which makes setting up another line of business difficult at the same time signature campaigns cannot be counted upon because of the various variables attached to it. But with trading, you might not always win, but you are sure to make some decent returns. Learn the art and be faithful about it. What I do in most cases is to buy and keep for the next few days. I take the little marginal returns and move on to other coins. With this, the steady flow wont cease and the you know that the more the capital, then better. Consider that option.
684  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Looking for betting partner on: July 09, 2019, 08:05:55 AM
Hey mate, do not expect anyone to take your offer seriously since you are only using a throw away account. I suggest that you build a good reputation here first before asking people to trust you with their money.

Of course using a throw away account sounds fishy but I strongly believe that Op is not a new addition to the forum because for him to create an account and create a thread about a topic in the right sub-forum of the forum shows he is really not a newbie on the forum. Which means the issue of building a good reputation before making such request might not apply to him. What should be suggested is that if he wants to be taken seriously, he should use his main account to make such request and better still focus on specific usernames whose point of reasoning is towards he request then private chat them instead creating a thread for the same purpose...
685  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Serious question about Bitcoin. Is it a reliable and stable investment? on: July 08, 2019, 04:57:03 PM
My answer to the question would be yes to the Reliable and No to the stable part because according to the definition of stability, bitcoin price is far from that to the extent that stability in bitcoin or crypto generally is used as a range for example ''price has been stable above $5000 in the past couple of months'' this statement is just an expression and does not have anything to do with stability. Reliability on the other-hand is a positive attribute which to me bitcoin has not fail from the beginning and I am yet to see any investment that is not physical in nature do much that it has done in terms of returns.

688  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Will you use a Facebook coin? on: July 05, 2019, 08:18:00 AM
I dont expect anyone who has been fully involved one way or the other about crypto and its concept of Freedom would want to be much thrilled with Facebook's proposition. Even without the coming of coin, a lot of people are even pissed off about Facebook's amount of control based on the information and access it has and this has not been void of controversy at one point or the other. For me, I would want to take a look of it for understanding but not thrilled to use it except it becomes absolutely necessary but I think we are still a long way from that happening...

690  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Predicted During Pokemon in 1999 on: July 04, 2019, 01:13:47 PM
All of the images I see in OP's message are not even directly related to the prediction he is envisaging here. Even if a relationship can be established, it does not necessarily means it was bitcoin that was predicted in the said image. I have seen an image of the Simpsons in which the cartoon there depicted a scene related to President Trump but its just mere coincidence. Lets us focus on issues that are important rather than trying to pick connections where there is absolutely none.
691  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: House Democrats call for Facebook to halt cryptocurrency project on: July 03, 2019, 01:57:51 PM
I think it's a serious subject. Would like to know what's your opinion about it:

TL;DR

A group of Democrats on the House Financial Services Committee is calling on Facebook to halt its plan to develop a cryptocurrency-based payments platform.

The lawmakers, whose panel will hold a hearing later this month on Facebook’s Project Libra, wrote a letter to company executives Tuesday expressing concerns with the cryptocurrency’s security and oversight while stressing the need to protect users' privacy and thwart hackers.

"If products and services like these are left improperly regulated and without sufficient oversight, they could pose systemic risks that endanger U.S. and global financial stability. These vulnerabilities could be exploited and obscured by bad actors, as other cryptocurrencies, exchanges, and wallets have been in the past,” the lawmakers wrote.

"“Investors and consumers transacting in Libra may be exposed to serious privacy and national security concerns, cyber security risks, and trading risks. Those using Facebook's digital wallet — storing potentially trillions of dollars without depository insurance — also may become unique targets for hackers,” they continued"

I will be surprised if there is no opposition to the bold move Facebook is pushing forward because from the lawmakers point of view, it sure means granting more power to private organisations at the expense of public institution because the moment the control of money or crypto goes to the organisation, government power becomes gradually dwindling down which any government would want. Coming from the Democrats should not be a subject of discussion because irrespective of parties, all elected representatives wants the same thing which is the continual rest of power with the government.
692  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Netflix is gonna film documentary about crypto on: July 03, 2019, 08:56:34 AM
Netflix is one platform that has been very vocal and not afraid of going into areas that other movie producers have been shying away from and decide to leave alone. Aside from this position they have taken, they also have the platform in which others are struggling to even get a portion of and that is to the advantage of crypto. If they are going this route, then it will mean alot to the crypto sphere and its something to be happy about because I am sure the documentary will be very well detailed to address majority of the grey areas which people are looking for answers to by those already aware of crypto itself not to talk of the impact it will make on those who will be joining for the first time.
693  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Breaking News! Third world nation bans BTC. 10 years in jail for holding crypto on: June 10, 2019, 07:32:10 AM
India has decided to completely ban the possession, sale and purchase of Bitcoin or any other form of crypto-currency.

According to the mainstream media, the measures will be implemented this month, with a 90-day waiting period. Anyone who don't "dispose off" their crypto holding within this time period will be charged with non-bailable criminal offenses, which can be punished by up to 10 years in jail.

What makes this measure different from others is that while countries such as Nepal and Bangladesh have arrested random individuals for trading in cryptocurrency (or for exchanging crypto for fiat), none of the authorities anywhere in the world have arrested users just for the possession of crypto-currency.

There are an estimated 100,000 crypto-traders in India, and there are another 5,000,000 individuals who have dealt with crypto at some point of time.

Since its still a proposal, I don't think there is need to jump the gun for whatever reason. Even though India is a being regarded as a third world country, it does not means every of their law makers are people who don't have the knowledge and exposure to know what is right and thereafter decides what is best for the country. I expect there would be changes and some reasonable amendments before it becomes law and ultimately binding on every citizens of the country.
694  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paper Wallets For Tipping on: June 09, 2019, 10:48:53 AM
Last night I ordered a pizza for my family and I. I used a gift card to pay. I don’t carry cash but I have a bunch of unused paper wallets. When the delivery girl got to my house I asked, “Do you use bitcoin?” I could tell she knew of it, but wasn’t to familiar. So, I told her I want to tip her, but would she accept bitcoin. Her eyes lit up and she agreed.

So, I grabbed a spare paper wallet, scanned the QR code, sent the tip, gave her the wallet, and before she left I told her to google “bitcoin paper wallet cash out” or something like that if she wants fiat. She genuinely seemed excited.

I did same thing a few days ago and that delivery boy had the same reaction.

For people who are unsure or skeptical, I think this is a good idea for everyone in the space bc 1)it’s a direct connection to one’s labor, 2) the face-to-face voluntary transaction of tipping is apart of the Satoshi ethos, 3)its something physical, 4)the physical paper will help them understand the abstract aspect of money and 5)it creates a financial incentive for them to give bitcoin cursory examination, at least.

At that point, I hope they continue  down the Rothbardian hole and see the fed (and all central banking) for the criminal instruction they are.

Thoughts?

You have done well because you have gone beyond the online proclamation of bitcoin or crypto currency, you have done the physical which would make a lasting impact beyond what anyone could imagine as the people involved are more likely to share with their friends the generous customer they attended to and how he chose to pay them for their dedication. It further would ignite their interest for learning more on their own and the workings of the crypto world.

Thank you once again...
695  Economy / Economics / Re: Joseph Stiglitz: ‘We should shut down the cryptocurrencies’ on: May 09, 2019, 02:05:43 PM
Everyone is very much entitled to their opinion to the extent of how much they believed its the right thing to do. I would argue towards the direction of blockchain because if not for anything, the transparency is second to none that there is absolutely no way to lie about such transactions. It also does not mean that the concern raised by the erudite scholar should be wished away because truth be told, a lot of people have been exploiting the anonymous nature of crypto as a means to carry out their nefarious activities to the detriment of the individuals who used it for the transborder advantages without any hassle.
696  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin on its way to $20,000? on: May 06, 2019, 06:52:18 PM
Here we go again with some unimaginable expectations rather than waiting for situation of things to turn out with the influence of speculators working on empty predictions without considering the practicability of such prediction. Eventually, the price of bitcoin might reach such length but it does not remove the fact that there is need to be realistic on prediction of price. $20,000 is a long way to go...
697  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Could Hit The $6,000 Benchmark Soon on: May 06, 2019, 02:19:33 PM
If not because of the situation of things that caused the price of bitcoin to crash to an extremely low level, $6,000 level should not even be something to be predicted and be happy about because we would have gone beyond that level in a long while. However, this is the situation that we have come to find ourselves which makes $6,000 an achievement everyone is looking forward to. While its right to be optimistic, there is no point being over joyous about it. Let everyone go about their normal business with the hope of making reasonable returns on investment.
698  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Transfer of bitcoins, sold as a "service" on: March 19, 2019, 04:48:28 PM

I think I have a grasp of what you are saying here. And its more related to the service that the exchange sites are offering in that you are looking to buy a .002btc and they have a way sell it and they charge a fee in that process. Its not that straight forward as you try to paint it because bitcoin is not a physical good that can be touched or seen. Its also not something that can be found randomly then you get a cut for it. Its something that would be earned either buying or working for it. The place where charges is being gotten is the connector between the buyer and the seller. Is it legal, of course it is since you have assumed nothing illegal as the base line.
699  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Sponsorship in the Sports World on: March 06, 2019, 03:33:04 PM
Currently cryptocurrency market is making many sponsorship deals with sports world and in Feb it was announced that FutoroCoin would be sponsoring formula 1 team.
I, personally think this is super cool news for cryptoworld as it shows that it’s not just a trend but so much bigger than that. What do you guys think?

Well its a great news. Even though I am seeing this for the first time but I am not surprised that its happening so far it can be established that the crypto is not from illegal means then there should not be any form of restrictions to sponsor any program or sporting event. I want to see this go on a high scale by seeing it in games like EPL or WWE which attracts higher number of people across the world. Now the concern is that the coin that would be advertised would be coins whose ownership or developers can be identified which puts bitcoin at a disadvantage in my opinion.
700  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ways to relieve stress from "crypto" scammers when all you value is bitcoin? on: March 06, 2019, 12:30:28 PM
I completely agree with you. All through human endeavors every new innovations is always being faced with several allegations in other to stop it from seeing the light of the day especially when the set of people involved are powerful and threatened by such innovation. Just like the time when cars were just being produced commercially there were all sorts of campaigns from the train owners but eventually they had to succumb to the way things are going. All these happening to bitcoin is a testament that it is really here to stay.
