1241  Economy / Economics / Re: Greediness leads to market manipulation. on: July 26, 2018, 11:14:29 AM
Sometimes many people try to manipulate the market and buy precious tokens cheap and selling high later. They intentionally cause fear and panic in the inexperienced members and take advantage to perpetrate their greed activities.

I don't think buying cheap and selling high later amounfs to greed and manipulating the market. Anyone can fall in that category because at the time of buying low, you are taking enormous risk only few people will take as you don't know for certain whether the coin would not even make it to the future where you get to sell at an higher price. Eventually, when you manage to sell, someone who is buying is also taking the risk you took long time ago which could either be a successful one or otherwise.

The point of manipulation is joining of groups that are bent on manipulating the price in the short run and the brain behind this is greediness and that is why anyone who wants to invest in coins based on recent occurrence should be careful in doing so because that upward trend in graph might be due to some invisible hand trying to twist you to part away with your hard earned resources.
1242  Economy / Economics / Re: Can bribery collapse a nation? on: July 26, 2018, 08:28:01 AM
A politician in my country was able to purchase 275buses in my country for his party in his bid to win the national secretary but the same party is in power and hospitals admit patients without beds.So I ask, will this country continue to exist? Honestly ,am afraid for the future of this world due to the high corrupt activities.

If there is any fast epidemic that can bring down a country, its bribery and corruption. The moment bribery has taken a whole of the economy that is the beginning of the end for that country and because its contagious, it begins to spread to different sectors and then generation which might take forever to clean up. The point is the societies that work where citizens have access to basic needs for human existence is run by people in the most efficient way and the moment bribery is introduced to that environment, mediocrity begins to replace efficiency.

For your country, I think its an example for a society that has failed because I cannot imagine someone contesting for a public office position expending such huge amount of money without the motive of reaping back his investment when he eventually gets the position. Its a shame that positions are now used to make individuals rich rather than benefit to the populace that they claim they want to serve. This is not to absolve that there is no bribery in working societies but its not rubbed in the face of the citizens and flaunted on people like its being witnessed in most under-developed and developing country.
1243  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin hit 20k again on: July 26, 2018, 07:49:46 AM
I strongly believe that bitcoin will reach the 20k mark and even surpasses it with several development happening all over the globe but the issue is when this will happen. The timing is what cannot be guaranteed in the short run. For bitcoin to reach the 20k it reach in the last successful run, several factors were responsible for that. And the only way we will see it again is for the same scenarios to play out again which is likely not possible.

Then we are left with the option of gradual movement propelled by the participants in the market quest to see a good turnaround until major event would doubled the effort that is being done already. Just like I said, the journey won't be an easy one as its not for the faint hearted but only those who are really sure of their conviction that the future is still very much brighter than what has happened in the past.
1244  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin might still crash with or without the ETF approval on: July 26, 2018, 07:11:26 AM
Does anyone have an opinion, or are we in a real stage of confusion? August 10 is 2 weeks away, and with everyone knowing that it might crash when whales sell the news, will it cause for the crash to occur days sooner because of the anticipation of the crash?

If anything is to go by the report, I read yesterday, I think the August 10 has been shifted forward till when we don't know. I am actually of the same opinion that whether ETF or not, price will fall, so also will price rise what would happen otherwise is ETF approval aiding the rise while disapproval aiding the fall. But its always encouraging that people should move beyond reacting to impending news before making their investment decisions because doing that would only confirm the argument that bitcoin is just an emerging currency that can swerve in any direction and most importantly not to be taken seriously. I have not seen any major currency reacting to speculations that cannot be founded.
1245  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-07-25] Delaware DOJ Reaches Out to Poloniex Users ‘If They Have an Issue’ on: July 25, 2018, 06:56:54 PM
Starting from 2018 some Poloniex users claimed having difficulties with their accounts.
They complained about missing or stuck deposits and accounts being frozen without getting a response from the company.
The current issues with this exchange piqued the interest of the Investor Protection Unit of the Delaware Department of Justice (DOJ) which the Chief Special Investigator of the Investor Protection Unit (IPU) emailed a list of individuals, asking them to contact him in case having any difficulties with their Poloniex accounts...
https://cointelegraph.com/news/us-delaware-doj-reaches-out-to-poloniex-crypto-exchange-users-if-they-have-an-issue

This is surely a step in the right direction as service providers needs to be held accountable for their actions. The consciousness of someone who called them to order is enough to ensure the right thing is being done. Poloniex for one have been having issues with clients and they continue to ignore customers complaints. I think its because of the amount of people they have who patronise them makes them feels they wouldn't mind if one or two people can be dropped via their bad customer satisfaction. But with this, they brought this on themselves and I know government officials will see this as an opportunity to really go hard on them beyond normal. The fear now is, will people be willing to really submit their complains to DOJ without being skeptical about how it might be used against them.
1246  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-07-22] China's Crypto Millionaires Are Using Bitcoin to Buy Real Estate Ab on: July 25, 2018, 05:11:22 PM
Since time immemorial people have been finding way to make headway across border if their home country is not giving them the right environment to flourish and thanks to various charters and agreements that have been signed even before a lot of us were born, it becomes easy to move to another accommodating environment that allows them just that they would be limited in what they can do but the benefit of that decision, surely outweigh the costs.

In the future, I see the countries that have taken a negative stance begin to review their policies when they realize the extent of capital flight happening and there is nothing they can do to stop while those money moving offshore is being used to develop another economy who most times is their own competitor.
1247  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-07-25] SEC Delays Ruling on Five Bitcoin ETF Applications on: July 25, 2018, 04:35:34 PM
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced in a statement that it will delay its ruling on whether or not to give approval to a rule change relating to five bitcoin ETF applications filed by fund provider Direxion.

The ETFs in question are Direxion Daily Bitcoin Bear 1X Shares, Direxion Daily Bitcoin 1.25X Bull Shares, Direxion Daily Bitcoin 1.5X Bull Shares, Direxion Daily Bitcoin 2X Bull Shares, and Direxion Daily Bitcoin 2X Bear Shares.

SEC Puts the Brakes on Direxion’s Bitcoin ETF Aspirations

According to the SEC press release, on Jan. 4, 2018, NYSE Arca, Inc. submitted a filing for a proposed rule change which would permit the listing and trading of shares of the ETFs under the NYSE Arca Rule 8.200-E.

In response to this, the SEC indicated that it would need more time to study and analyze the proposed changes to make sure that they are in line with its standards.

Signed by Assistant Secretary Eduardo A. Aleman on behalf of the SEC Division of Trading and Markets, the statement specifically mentions that the SEC had concerns about whether the changes would be in line with Section 6(b)(5) of the SEC Act.

This section states, amongst other things, that the rules of a national securities exchange must be designed to “prevent fraudulent and manipulative acts and practices, to promote just and equitable principles of trade, and to protect investors and the public interest.”

Even with this news, posted for several hours which I am sure would have been released several hours ago, I am still surprised about the response of threads relating to August 16 is still getting hoping for ETF to happen without knowing that it has been suspended indefinitely. While the decision to do a study of the market in other to come out with an informed decision, not putting a timeline to it, makes it something that might not happen anytime soon and that is bad for the market. I think this is what the market has responded to that we have retreat of price that has witnessed some increase in the past few days while some uniformed individuals will start blaming "whales".

Eventually, I think they are only able to shift it forward and cannot continue to ignore the need that a decision will need to made and that is when we will have the last laugh. This is a set back, but not a pull down.
1248  Economy / Economics / Re: What expectations have not been met in cryptocurrency? on: July 25, 2018, 03:24:04 PM
I believe everyone had some dreams to achieve when moving into cryptocurrency. Which part of it has not been met yet?.will they be met anyway?

My expectation of crypto which is yet to be met can be summed up to insurance and responsibility. Today, a lot of people have been victims of scams whether willingly, greediness, deceit, hacking, or compromise of custodians and there is nothing to salvage the situation. For fiat, if some transfer money without my approval or stole my ATM, I could quickly get the bank to block such transaction, trace the account where its going and if followed adequately, the culprit could be caught while the accounts where the fund touches would be place on restriction. But for crypto, the moment one confirmation has happened, that is the end without remedy and that is why scam abound. The moment that can be checked, my expectations would have been met.
1249  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies misconceptions on: July 25, 2018, 01:45:39 PM
Many newbies come into cryptocurrency with a mindset that making money here is easy and that they are also here to make it financially
The truth is making money in cryptocurrency is as difficult as making money in our traditional world.

In crypto, one has to study first, work hard, and above all have patience before one can enjoy the fruit of his labour just like in the real world.
So my dear newbies, do well to go through the process first and then expect to enjoy the fruit of your hard work as you mature in cryptocurrency.

While I would agree that its not as easy as newbies made it sound the same misconception I had when gotten introduced into the forum but I would disagree that its as difficult as making money in our traditional world. The only part difficult is understanding how the market works which with dedication and commitment within three months, you can boast of reasonable knowledge  unlike when you had to go to school or learn vocation for a minimum of three years to have a chance of making some decent income.

Aside that, another lucrative source of income is trading, I have been fortunate to buy a coin and after about six months, the ROI was enough to cover some other peoples annual salary without making allowances for expenses incurred during the year. Another source are the freelancer that could now offer their service to clients world wide without leaving their room compared to the stress and cost to incurred if its done in the traditional world.
1250  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies wearing signature; is it good or bad? on: July 25, 2018, 12:31:38 PM
It surprises me anytime i see a newbie starting a thread like" where can i get a bounty which allows newbie to participate in signature". Every signature campaign requires you to be active in the forum by making posts. Now the question is, as a newbie, how much knowledge have you gain from the forum so far that can help you make constructive posts. They end up spamming the forum here and there making access to quality information very difficult. Please my advice to all new members is that lets use that period to groom ourselves well so that when we start wearing signatures, we can be making constructive posts. Thank you

The problem has been the issue of spamming because as at the time I joined the forum some years back, newbies were still being accepted into several campaigns but since the spamming became an epidemic where people who farm accounts can easily create a new account, join campaign and further contribute to garbages already complained about, it was left to the managers to take actions by excluding them from campaigns. That does not say all newbies contribute garbages because even after the commencement of the merit system, I have seen newbies contribute quality content to the body of knowledge.

I think excluding newbies and the advent of the merit system has actually reduced the spamming problem to a large extent which limited the source of it to the bounty section of the forum. The moment that area is cleared then all issues can be revisited.
1251  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WHY CRYPTOCURRENCY PROGRESS MOVE SLOW IN AFRICA? AND WHAT TO DO TO HELP AFRICANS on: July 25, 2018, 10:40:57 AM
Hello, as we both knwo that cryptocurrency ius future payment solution in the world thoughthere is some bariers from differenct states and goverments but the reality still there.
Example we can see proress in some europeans countries having ATM machins where users can withdraw bitcoin and other altcoins there by using their ATM crds, also they can pay by using cryptocyurrency in different placess like supermarkets but also they can make online purchase with cryptocurrencies.

SO..
WHY WE DONT SEE THESE THINGS IN AFRICA TOO??

WHATS  TO DO TO HELP AFRICAN COUNTRIES TO ADOPT THESE CHANGES?

Those countries that are way ahead by opening up new frontiers in the development and application of blockchain and bitcoin, have one thing in common which is development in virtually all areas of their economy. They have challenges but have moved away from basic issues such as education, road infrastructure, electricity, identity, health care issues, minimum wage, in short basic human needs have been covered which most African countries are still battling with in the 21st century.

The point is, African countries will get there but not at the pace you are expecting it to happen at this time. Unfortunately, by the time they get there, other countries would have moved to bigger and more efficient platforms which means the world don't wait for nobody.
1252  Economy / Speculation / Re: Many cryptocurrency players have gone bankrupt on: July 25, 2018, 09:03:47 AM
Responding to topics and statements made by Op, is actually giving credence and relevance to whatever he is insinuating because people like that are better referred to as trolls who does not have any iota of the argument they are putting forward neither is it being supported with fact to drive home their point. Everyone knows that the golden rule in crypto is not to invest money which if unavailable, would put you in a difficult situation and the moment that is adhered to, then the issue of bankruptcy does not arise. Aside that, the rate of return for anyone since the beginning of 2017 has been positive year on year basis. So, there is no need to continue dignifying this with responses.
1253  Economy / Marketplace / Re: How soon will automakers start accepting crypto for there payments on: July 25, 2018, 08:11:58 AM
This has been my concern here in my  own country Nigeria. No auto dealers or automakers has ever accepted any crypto particularly BTC for purchase payments

All over the world and every sector of the economy, the continued acceptance of bitcoin for transaction purposes continues to happen. This influence depends largely on the environment the business is operating. I don't expect an entrepreneur to go and spend huge amount of money on having a POS machine, when the majority of those that patronize his business deals with cash and don't even have bank accounts.
The reason why it seems the businesses operating in the automobile industry in Nigeria are yet to fall in line is because even their clients have not fully harness the potential of blockchain where majority of their transactions is still being done through banks enable channels. In the future, it is expected that this will change depending on other factors that might either work for or against such penetration.
1254  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bitcoin Worth To Be Currency? on: July 25, 2018, 05:55:25 AM
Everything we have come to know was a result of the collective agreement that the people have about it. Before the advent of money as we know it today, people over the period of civilisation have used different items and commodities as money and they still do so today. In recent times we have engaged in series of services that we have collected goods, praise, promises in return that is the money that we have accepted and its mutual between two people.

In the case of bitcoin, yes its not perfect but so also the currency we have known which without human intervention through various policies for or against, won't be any different from bitcoin. The moment we agree that bitcoin is money and its acceptable between the parties engaging in that transaction, then I don't see any problem in that.
1255  Economy / Economics / Re: Be greedy when others are fearful... on: July 24, 2018, 08:30:13 PM
Quote
I will tell you the secret to getting rich on Wall Street. You try to be greedy when others are fearful. And you try to be fearful when others are greedy.
-Warren Buffet

This quote is constantly bandied about as justification to invest in Bitcoin, and especially now that there has been some nice price movement in the upward direction. But this Warren Buffet quote is only relevant with the proper context, which is that Warren Buffet only invests in things he has a fundamental understanding of and can quantifiably value. You can confidently be greedy when others are fearful if you have a sound investment thesis and are a fundamental value investor. This is how he turns his investments into home runs, he knows what he's buying and what it's worth and can weather the negative sentiment until the market learns what he already knows. This doesn't apply at all to a speculative investment like crypto. Following this advice willy-nilly is gonna get you burned because you're misunderstanding the intent and the application.

Don't not buy Bitcoin if that's what you want to do, but don't fool yourself into thinking you're following Warren Buffet's advice. Warren Buffet doesn't speculate, and if you're buying crypto, you're speculating.

Personally, for someone to rely on Warren Buffet's quote to make investment in crypto is an outright misrepresentation and twisting of fact to suit your own purpose because Warren himself has never believed in crypto for him to have made such comments concerning it and up till this morning, that has not changed.

However, the quote can be applied but in any investment decision you believed in and in a micro way, its what majority of believers in crypto have continually done without the need to read quotes such as in cases of downward trend in price when panic selling is the other of day, a lot of people still stay strong until there is a turnaround in the situation of things.
1256  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are online gambling games fixed? on: July 24, 2018, 07:59:42 PM
They are not fixed unless they don't claim they are provably fair. When they claim that they are provably fair, you can check with the use of provably fair verifiers. There are gambling sites that are not provably fair, I suggest that you stay away from them and there are also sites that claim that they are provably fair but in fact, they are not.

This is a good remark. Indeed there are such sites and that's why we shouldn't take any claims at face value, especially when dealing with newly appeared sites. Fortunately, it's not that hard to verify several bets. And reading reviews also helps, because we can't verify every bet (well, we can do that technically, but that would be hell of a game). Some gambling sites have such a good reputation that it seems unnecessary to verify any bets there at all, but of course you can do it from time to time, just in case.
Lol well looks like you are not aware about the site you are promoting, it also doesn't have a probably fair mark and it also makes several fake claims.

So are you suggesting us to avoid that site because of all the fake claims it is making and also claiming to he a registered casino but at the end has a fake license

I can't believe there is no site they won't have human intervention in the process even those that pride themselves as probably fair would want to make some decent returns to their investors especially those who have some crowdfunding system in place. But because they have garnered the trust of the community, after they have been tested several times, people focus on other issues like delayed withdrawals, change in policies, suspending accounts under the guise of security checks etc. Until one of them is caught unaware, we assume they don't manipulate the process.

However, I believe its not necessary to start doing those calculations because of waging some few amounts of satoshis and won't be needed if one had settle his mind to lose from the point of engaging in gambling in the first place as that would solve some high form of heart breaks.
1257  Economy / Gambling / Re: Introducing TheButton.co - be the last presser and win! on: July 24, 2018, 06:39:21 PM
9% to the developers is massively too high if you want this game to achieve any sort of success.

Also, 85 + 5 + 9 = 99%

Is the final 1% used for gas fees or what? And do you have a link to the smart contract audit?

Sometimes I wonder what developers think and the basis for which they are relying on to decide the right percentage that would accrue to them for their effort. Aside being just a developer, there is need to learn some skills of entrepreneurship and marketing because considering the already congested market of what you are offering and how far they gone in getting the loyalty of the same clients you are willing to woo to your side. There is what is called price penetration which is reducing price in other to gain some section of the market then gradually increase it from there.

But from the way I see it, it seems the opposite is what this developer is trying to implement and I don't see myself playing on a site they 9% is already penciled down for the developer couple with a new site not giving me any incentive to try it out despite the fact that there are more established sites asking for lower percentages.
1258  Economy / Gambling / Re: Telegram Dice Gambling Bot (BTC/LTC/DOGE) on: July 24, 2018, 06:08:57 PM
Your game is pretty good as I can see but how can we know that it is a provably fair? Can we verify our bet here? Because this is based on telegram so I think it is pretty hard to run a verifier. And btw is there any minimal and maximal bet for each coin? You need to provide everything to open a new site though. And last is about your house edge, how much is it?

Thanks for the comment. As for your concerns, we are thinking to do a smart contract on the blockchain in the future so that users are able to verify them. As for min and max bet, yes we have them and you can see how much it is for each type of coin in the bot. So basically, you dont need to manually key in the amount, there are a few options to tap on. As of now for the beginning, there is no house edge but all that will be implemented in the future should this take off.

In my opinion, I think those things that should happen in the future are essential things that should have been put in place from the first place even before launching. The entire blockchain is based on transparency and this is one unique way to build trust in any service you are rendering. If you are launching a service that this is not inbuilt, how else do I have the assurance that I am not being cheated if there is no way to verify it. I think you need to move the timeline of that "future" closer if the business would would live to enjoy the patronage that would sustain it into that future.
1259  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bojoko.com | Casino comparison site with bitcoin casinos on: July 24, 2018, 05:52:37 PM
How can we know if you are not deleting the bad reviews instead of the good one? I believe every casino should have a good review but using this kind of trick there is no way people will review your site directly from your site. They will choose to review your site from outside instead of inside. I have not played on your site yet but you should doing campaign or may be promotions to get more people around since you opening a new site. This thing will really helpful to make good progress. Next step will depends on your promotions or may be some competition as well

This is a good angle that you are opening up here because most review sites always have an end game which is how they can turn traffic into revenue and the moment that is a deciding factor, compromise is imminent because self interest becomes the deciding the factor of whatever that would be posted on the website and how bad reviews are managed not to look so bad.

However, I expect anyone who would want to rely on reviews to make decisions not to base such decision on information from just one side and that would amount to investment suicide without any room for correction but from several review sites and the potent one which is the scam accusation section of the forum, an informed decision can be made.
1260  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM ALERT cryptonbattle.com cryptonhash.com bitcoineasybet.com on: July 24, 2018, 05:32:06 PM
They have multiple domain names. I'm aware of the following:

cryptonbattle.com
cryptonhash.com
bitcoineasybet.com

Just a simple skim over the source code reveals that they log whatever you type on that site, and that the "games" are straight-up fakes.
Someone will contact you on Telegram, point you to one of these domains, prove to you that they can control who's winning, and lure you into sending BTC to 1CTNuvDcipyWWtbT3EzPy4hmGAFE1nxgDZ.

I've reported them to Google. DO NOT visit any of these links and if you unfortunately did, DO NOT type any personal information / password there or "deposit" BTC!!

You have done well by trying to create awareness for people not to lose their resources in the quest to multiply it and be blinded by that need and not the consciousness to do reasonability check on the site they are visiting to try their chances. Sometimes I usually wonder what people even see in several sites that are by default shady to deposit funds when there are reputable sites to try their luck even abound on this section of the forum. Unfortunately, a whole lot of people would still fall in this scam of a site because they are either ruled by greed or laziness to read.
