1041  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Nicehash Returns 60% of Coins Stolen in the Hack on: September 03, 2018, 01:41:52 PM
Despite my forever grouse against cloud mining services, there is need to commend the management of NiceHash for living to the promise made to people who lost their money on their platforms and doing so in a graduated way. But I didn't read anywhere in the article where any client of NiceHash have claimed to have received the amount lost. This is also a testimony that for a service to have been able to return 2820btc (60% of 4700btc) and they are still waxing strong in paying their bills, all the news about difficulty in mining of bitcoin and how unprofitable it might be is just happening in some peoples imagination.

Going beyond paying back every last penny, I think there should be ways to make the management of NiceHash pay by the authority because for that to have happened successfully means someone didn't do his job right and its the management that should be held responsible for such deficiency as they have betrayed the trust of who invested in their mining equipment believing that the platform is secure enough to keep their resources safe.
1042  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Methods to Recognize Frauds. on: September 03, 2018, 01:11:56 PM
Hi there!

Please read the ways to verify whether an ICO is scam or not. In future, this may applicable to bitcoin as well.

https://shuftipro.com/blogs/identity-verification-service-ico-scams/

Have your say.

If you ask me, the simple way to stay away from scam ICOs is not be greedy. I can't imagine an ICO raising fund and claiming to give as much as 100% as bonus for early bird investors, that one is no longer asking for funding, its enticing you to part away with your money or the one that is only asking your to put in your details to be on the "whitelist" or another one that cannot manage to hire a good, competent and efficient community manager.

Also @Op if you really want to create awareness for people to not fall in scam activities as it relates to ICOs, then you could have copy and posted from the website here (of course acknowledging the source) with that everyone can get the full gist rather than referring people to your site in which you might not even be adding anything new that we have not been aware of before and at the same time, riding on the ignorance of people to increase the traffic to such site.
1043  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin and Taxes on: September 03, 2018, 12:51:17 PM
The IRS currently considers cryptocurrency to be property. But that doesn’t mean one should avoid reporting gains. The agency has always been more lenient on taxpayers and investors who jump the gun in this regard. Coming forward sooner rather than later can help prevent stricter penalties or fines because of non-reporting.
https://usethebitcoin.com/understanding-bitcoin-and-taxes/

Do we really need to reveal how many bitcoins we have? What are your thoughts on this? Bitcoin as a decentralized system should be tax free. Does this defeat the purpose of the invention? To avoid the centralized system as well as those huge taxes?  Grin

What the tax authority is talking about revealing here is not about the total bitcoin you have, but the amount you have sold because since its regarded as property, its the capital gains that is subjected to tax and that would not happen if you didn't sell your property which in this case bitcoin.

From the legal and civic point of view, the onus on disclosure is on the individual show to the tax authority the total of income generated from selling crypto currency that have increased in value over the years. On the decentralization and how bitcoin income should be tax free based on your suggestion is out of it because as a dream gets bigger, some interest and variables that have not be thought of becomes an important fact that needs to be dealt with. This is exactly the point where bitcoin is that compromise needs to be made on the part of enthusiasts to have a problem free environment.

What the tax authority needs to do since they are helpless without individual disclosure is to review the current policy if that is what is leading people away from paying willing couple with the fact that they recognize that government would have to spend more in other to unravel the people behind every wallet address there is fund.
1044  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Trading, campaigns, gambling or mining? on: September 03, 2018, 10:39:10 AM
Which one would you prefer or best to earn? As far as i have come across, crypto is the best platform to have good earnings. We have many who have a good experience on it and still into it without a regular job. Many have left their main job after experiencing double income from crypto. Many have become millionaire and have changed their lifestyles. Which one would be the best to have good crypto earnings?

If I am to rank in other of how lucrative and easy for an average guy without any knowledge of the technicality of bitcoin, hash rate, pool configuration, returns etc, I would go in the other of

a. Trading: This is the surest one to me. Its as simple as abc. All that is needed is to register on an exchange site, make deposit then do some little study before buying by doing this, you can monitor the rate at which price is going which could give you the opportunity to cut your losses in a situation where you are losing the appetite. It is also the most lucrative to me with just a marginal increase, marginal profit is certain that would take care of the cost of buying and transaction fees.

b. Gambling: This is the most risky but can be done without any knowledge. Its simple, identify a site where you can give a run for your money, register then try. But be careful for this has a surest way to lose income without any way to get it back other than winning.

c. Mining: Here its just about technicalities to me and the capital needed to set up before earning something decent is not what someone making a start out in crypto should just bother to be involved with. The cloud counterpart is a no-no because of the abuse that have happened there.

d. Campaign is taking the least there because while the other have little knowledge, campaign demands detailed understanding and ability to convey thoughts clearly or else, its the fastest way to run into problem especially on the forum.
1045  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Corporates plan to adapt bitcoin and blockchain? on: September 03, 2018, 09:51:00 AM

We are tend to talk about governments accepting bitcoin and other crypto currencies. We do have corporate companies who are the main source of income to all citizens of countries. Government are the first beneficiary of these companies. The country's development is depend on outsourcing. How well it would be if corporates adapt Bitcoin, other crypto currencies and blockchain?

Of course corporate organisations are the pushers of the economy remove them from the situation of things and the country begins to crumble because government cannot employ everybody and at the same time cannot provide all the services and be able to monitor it effectively.

Several companies are already studying the use and implementation of the blockchain technology in their activities especially the big ones but because of the amount of fund that it will involve and the due process large organisations pride themselves in, they need to take their time in ensuring whatever they are churning out, must be something that will work under any circumstances.

Another issue of concern is that despite the importance the corporate organisations play in the development of the country, it does not undermine the influence of government in regulation. Companies in China for example will be more careful in devoting huge funds for blockchain research compared to their counterparts in a more liberal country like the United States.
1046  Other / Meta / Re: Does bitcointalk cause more spam with their rules? on: August 31, 2018, 07:01:08 PM
You have made some sensible comments and propositions. Although, I don't quite agree with all of them but it worth commending.

When people have auto accidents, others won't stop using vehicles or the solution would be that there should be ban on the use of vehicles so also in the case of aircraft crashing, people will still fly the next day to their various destinations and that is why you see several approaches being done to forestall the mistake of today from reoccurring.

All of the things that seems not to work are actually working. Before the beginning of the merit era, the issue of spam was so massive to the entire forum but today, its largely relegated to specific section of the forum. What we should be focusing on is ensuring that adequate support is given to the the forum in other to make it better and not suggesting loopholes to defeat the intention of the forum.
1047  Other / Meta / Re: Campaign Managers and Bots. The main reason for the SPAM. Solutions? on: August 31, 2018, 05:25:20 PM
What causes the need for a special group of DefaultTrust members? Is there anything that prevents current DefaultTrust from leaving negative feedback on managers that create spam?

This would be the only potent way to combat against spam on this forum. Just like I have earlier proposed until when managers especially in the bounties section are being held responsible for the actions of their participants, things will not get better. Its so bad that I have seen people posted that the manager was even notified on the activity of a participant but chose to ignore and went ahead to pay. A whole lot of managers don't even bother to check during the week until when its time to do calculation couple with the huge number of participants, it become rather impossible to keep an eye on the effectiveness and contribution of participants in the forum.
1048  Economy / Economics / Re: What should we focus on more? Demand or Supply? on: August 31, 2018, 02:58:07 PM
I see a lot of people that are hoarding 100% of their bitcoins, because they believe cutting off the supply, would be enough to increase the price. <mostly speculators>

Would it not be better, if we increased the demand by increasing Bitcoin awareness and convincing more merchants to offer Bitcoin payments?

A 100% hoarding strategy is more harmful, because it cancels all the good work that was done to get merchants to accept Bitcoin as a payment option. A merchant will stop accepting Bitcoin, if their is no demand or transactions being generated for their business from the Bitcoin payment side.

We should actively encourage local merchants to start accepting bitcoins and then we should start supporting them. <No matter how low the price is>

Just buy back the bitcoins that you spend and you will be fine or use money that you would not have hoarded and buy the goods or service with bitcoins. <So when the price increase, you will not have regrets that you spend those coins>

Adopt a 80% hoarding and 20% spending strategy and we will see a massive increase in Bitcoin adoption <Merchants & Bitcoin users >  Cool

I would stick to the position that the focus should be on both but more should be on demand. On the issue of demand there is need for increased publicity there is still a lot of untapped grounds that have not even heard about bitcoin and there are people who have heard but have not joined the market until they are pushed. These are the avenues to be tapped by every means and by our individual efforts in bring them into the fold active participants.

However, one sided effort cannot guarantee the outcome that we all are waiting for. In the case of a little increase in price occasioned by the result of activities listed above, people tend to see it as an opportunity to let go of the hoarding they have been doing thereby forcing the price downwards since the demand is not strong enough to maintain resistance at that level. This is evident in various push and further down in price that we have seen in the past couple of months. So as we are focusing on demand we should not be ignorant of the activities of supply.
1049  Economy / Economics / Re: Central Bank of Crypto-Currency on: August 31, 2018, 11:17:45 AM
Creating a Central Bank of Crypto-currency may no longer sound ridiculous as we are now having a number of countries coming up with some sort of mass application of the technology, the latest is from India, which reportedly ban cryptos, but recent report states that they are considering having a Bank of crypto, Ruppies-backed, Central bank digital currencies CDDC.
Are these really positive news for the crypto-market?

https://cointelegraph.com/news/reserve-bank-of-india-confirms-it-is-looking-into-making-a-central-bank-digital-currency

Having a Central Bank of crypto only sound ridiculous when it comes to ones not backed by the states such as bitcoin, ethereum, monero and others. For state backed ones, it just sound real and reasonable which is what is happening here. Central banks are known to be the only one with legal backing to print the fiat that is spent in the country and its outrightly illegal for anyone to provide such services. Take that responsibility from them and they lose every other power they have as they can no longer say for certain the amount of money in circulation, ensure the availability of forex or being able to maintain the balance of demand and supply etc. I am sure the new crypto they are proposing won't be mined like we have it as that is giving everyone who has the capacity to literally print money.

Wishing them all the best but I hope they are going all out with massive publicity in other to get those that will adopt as I don't see anyone involved in this current ability dropping it for government backed crypto with all the restrictions that will come with it.
1050  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies! Kindly Read This..! on: August 31, 2018, 09:53:06 AM
Hello!

Recently, I have seen a lot of newbies posting in threads that are very old and aren't active anymore. The first page of a section is supposed to have active and ongoing discussions while such actions don't let them be.

If you are a newbie, please take some time and read the OP (opening post) from the first page of any thread before you post anything to make sure it is not old. Because when you reply to an old thread, it pops up to the top again and people start posting in it once again which is something shouldn't be done.
You don't need to share your opinion about a topic that was started in early 2017 or even before that. There are hundreds of new topics which you can use to express your feelings. I'm not saying that you should post in almost every single one of them, but if you think you have something to say about a topic then you should first see the starting date of that and then go on. Posting replies without reading the starting date of a thread only makes the dead alive.

I hope people take this seriously.

You have pointed out something so germane and its what we see around here. Its not enough for a thread to have just too pages and you see that as an opportunity to post (since its not a mega thread) "I should not be accused of spamming the forum".

The annoying place you tend to see it on the Service section where a campaign that has ended, a newbie will post to ask for whether there is a room for him to be recruited.

The bold part is where the challenge is because lots of newbies won't get to see this thread either by error or omission and after a few days where several threads have been created, this gets push backwards never to be see again.
1051  Other / Meta / Re: akamit account hacked on: August 31, 2018, 08:57:46 AM
It is now 11 days less till 2 months that my account got hacked and still no sign of recovering the account.
The pain is in the last stage and I can't tolerate anymore.

Theymos & Cyrus is our guardians here and they are always silent about this recovering issue.  Sad

Now I'm regretting why I took the bounty manager's job... If I had realized that this type of issue may rise than I would not have taken bounty manager's job.

I love my reputation more than money... It is not only a saying here but I'm also very sensitive about my reputation in my real life.
No one knows me here personally and still, I'm burning like hell when I think that my reputation will be harmed seriously in near future.

Ohhh God, show me a way or do some magic spell on Theymos & Cyrus.  Embarrassed

Its unfortunate what you have to face in the process of recovering your account which no one can say for sure when its going to happen because I have read severally how people wait for months and some running into years in other to get their account back. I would not want you to beat yourself to hard by claiming its because you are a bounty manager, there are several bounties manager that are still in control of their account and more importantly there is nothing that can be done on your end.

This is also lending of voice to others that have clamored on the more delegation of duty especially on the part of recovery of account to a more high ranked and trusted member of the forum that would make it faster for any verified account to be restored to its due owner after passing some test to determine its eligibility.
1052  Other / Meta / Re: License for bounty managers on: August 31, 2018, 07:44:56 AM
What if there's a license for bounty managers? Bounty managers would be screened before giving them the bounty manager license. I think this would help with our problems about shitposting, because bounty managers will surely check the posts of their participants if they failed to do it and reaches the tolerable limit they're licensed will be removed.

I believe you have good intentions by coming up with this suggestions but the practicability is way more difficult than the theory and from the way I see it, we tend to bring in another round of controversy on the forum and several questions need to be answered and the onus is now on you to go beyond suggestion to coming up with a model by answering questions like

1. What will be qualification to even apply for the licence?

2. What will be the category of licences that will be issued we know there are different levels of campaign participants while some would be 50 participants, others might be as much as 200 participants.

2. Who are those that will issue the licence? This is the key part and we should be ready for round of name calling, attacks, allegations of favoritism and abuse of power.

The current situation is not the best but we are better of and I think campaign managers especially in the bounty section of the forum should be made accountable for the attitude of their participants.

1053  Other / Archival / Re: Attention! Issue with verification bot on: August 30, 2018, 06:00:37 PM
Dear users of [banned mixer], we identified an issue with verification bot. Now it is fixed. We kindly ask all users whose verification failed to go through the verification process again. If it is succeeded, you will receive notification from bot or you will see "verified" marked in green on your account. We apologise for any inconveniences and thank you for your understanding.

I don't understand, what form of verification is being discussed here?

For a mixer site that wants total anonymity, I don't think there should be any verification and even the solving of captcha that could serve as some level of verification against bot should not be there since its about paying for services and not a "free launch" that we tend to see in most faucets sites.
1054  Economy / Exchanges / Re: I can't withdrawal from coolcoin on: August 30, 2018, 05:11:36 PM
Im try to contact but notthing of them have a reply. And alwways the feedback told me talk too much

I will like to ask when was the time you received the notice for the delisting and now that you are trying to make the withdrawal? Just like @potato chips has rightly stated, the moment the days they give has elapsed, withdrawal is deactivated and when you try reaching them, they are at liberty to either answer or ignore since you have been notified. But if you are still within the grace period, I will suggest you don't back down on getting your coins out there by exploring every means possible to reach them because that same coin might worth more tomorrow. I have been there so I know the feeling.
1055  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Crackdown Continues: Chinese Authorities Issue Joint Warning on ‘Illegal’ Crypto on: August 30, 2018, 01:35:44 PM
Crackdown Continues: Chinese Authorities Issue Joint Warning on ‘Illegal’ Crypto Fundraising
Chinese regulators including the central bank have issued a new joint statement condemning illegal fundraising by schemes purporting to affiliate with cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

Issued on Friday, the warning comes as a joint statement from the People’s Bank of China – the country’s central bank, the Ministry of Public Security, the Banking Regulatory Commission, the General Administration of Market Supervision and the Central Network Information Office.

The six major government bodies and watchdogs blasted “lawless elements” claiming to issue cryptocurrency through initial coin offerings (ICOs) while soliciting funds from investors. These operators use terms like “financial innovation” and “blockchain”, the warning read, accusing them of only purporting to be based on blockchain technology while they’re really elements of “illegal fundraising, pyramid schemes and fraud.”
https://www.ccn.com/crackdown-continues-chinese-authorities-issue-joint-warning-on-illegal-crypto-fundraising/

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the statement they make because its true and at the same time reinstate my statement that they can only slow down use and penetration of the crypto industry activities but they won't be able to stop it. Because with all of the warnings, bans, crackdown, jail term, tracking of activities, they won't still be able to stop it. The concern is about those who are using these loopholes to rip people off their hard earned wealth and how they are being deceived and fooled in parting away with such resources.

In my opinion, I think the government and its agencies should stop focusing on the culprits after the deed has been done but more should be on the victims that are being deceived. The perpetrators knows how to operate under the radar, how to use VPNs to evade IP ban, how to set-up their base abroad away from the reach of the local enforcers then use social platforms groups to raise funds. Efforts should be geared towards real enlightenment of their citizens as most of these scams are easy to spot with just basic knowledge of how the crypto market works.
1056  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin will delete all the others monetary systems ? on: August 30, 2018, 12:15:39 PM
I recently read [/] "An Order-of-Magnitude Estimate of the Relative Sustainability of the Bitcoin Network" , from Hass McCook .

In this book , he made a detailed study about estimating the durability and cost of the Bitcoin network.
He compares Bitcoin against the gold industry, the banking system and the production of physical currency.
And , Bitcoin is by far the most energy efficient monetary system we have ever made !
Here are some numbers:

Banking system: 23340 million GJ (energy consumed) + 390 million T of CO˛
Bitcoin mining: 3.6 million GJ (energy consumed) + 0.6 million T CO˛.

 Grin Grin Grin

I don't know yours opinions about that , but I'm really excited , I want that erveryone know that !  Grin Grin

I know guys that it's really hard to delete these systems , and maybe not possible , I just think Bitcoin is the best system , and I just want to share my opinion , to touch a lot of people , and sensibilize them , it's important.
Nowadays , a lot of people are still thinking that Bitcoin is a scam , " a bubble" , they don't know the technology , they speak before learning , they don't understand and don't want to understand.
And I want to educate these people, it's my mission , and I sware iI will succeed : my goal is that people understand what is the potential of Bitcoin !

I don't see anything to be rejoiced about here. The fact is bitcoin is not replacing or deleting any other financial system especially fiat. The worst case scenario would be they both coexist which is something that I see happening. The banks would eventually adopt the blockchain technology to do the same thing they are currently doing but this time, in a more efficient and secure way that is made available by blockchain. The reason for that is simple the technology is open source which makes it easy for any intelligent developer to work on it and for banks that have either in-house team of developers or dedicated consultants for that purpose, there won't be any serious issue in getting a solution.

Your statistics sound right but decisions such as this are not made bases on statistics alone because it goes to the very foundation of the country if they are deleting their own financial system.
1057  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Pump and Dump Game on: August 30, 2018, 05:26:13 AM
I want to present my game, which I have been developing for a year now.

Pump and Dump is a mobile multiplayer online game that implements the real exchange operation (similar to a crypto exchange). The only difference is that the game currency is used. The main game feature is that the prices are not random, but determined during the trading between the players. The players can make a real pump and dump, set walls and manipulate the prices as desired.

At the beginning you get a start deposit and your task is to trade to make a profit and take a place in the top ranking.

The main goal of the game is to teach players to trade on a real exchange without the risk of losing real money.

Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=games.blackbox.pnd

iOS
https://itunes.apple.com/app/pump-and-dump/id1220331029?ls=1&mt=8

I would like to hear your opinion. Do we need a game that allows newcomers to understand complex exchange terms and charts simply by playing and without fear of losing significant amounts of money?

Aside from the concern raised above by @Thekool1s concerning how this is duplicating the function of the already created dummy accounts, I could not read anywhere about how the winning its going to happen. I don't expect a grown man to take his time to download a game and the only winnings there is not real what is then the motivation? I could then invest same time in car racing, football manager games. Also, while car racing techniques can be applied to real life to understand the dynamics of cars, trading game does not have any relationship with his happening in real exchange platforms.

Another thing worthy of note here is the name of your game "pump and dump". If its possible, I would suggest you change it to something else. Without checking the thread, the title alone is a put-off to people as pump and dump in its own literal meaning is manipulation that have done more harm than good in the market.
1058  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase got hacked??? on: August 30, 2018, 05:14:04 AM
Yesterday, I logged into my Coinbase account after a long time and ... It's empty,

I have a small amount BCH and BTC there. 2 transactions were just made and sent all my BCH and BTC to somewhere.

Before that,  I did not recieve any email, or 2FA SMS.

Now I lost all and dont know why.

To assume that Coinbase is hacked and the whole of crypto market have not taken some massive hit in price is what amazes me in Op and could pass off as a troll. Looking at his post history, it seems this account is only meant to complain about one thing or the other. Someone registered years back and made only seven posts with majority in investors based games and complains.

If you want to be taken seriously, you need to do more than just posting some random thoughts without support.

Hackers are getting smart day by day, now they can hack any website.

Of course they are and that is why its expected that platform custodians are also getting up to date about their security infrastructure. Coinbase knows this and I hope they continue to live up to this responsibility.
1059  Economy / Economics / Re: Stop talking about cashless society! Let us preserve mother nature! on: August 29, 2018, 08:57:21 PM
This is the problem with industrialized countries they are the one who are mandating that we need to preserve and conserve natural resources for the benefit of the next generations to come. However, they are not worrying when they use too much electricity or power with the ambitious move to make a cashless society. How will they do it without using the natural resources to power up their digital equipment? And then there is no absolute cashless society because anywhere you go you will going to need physical money for a medium of exchange especially in times if there are natural calamities like earthquake, floods, storm and etc. where power could be affected by these events. So they are just really ambitious and damaging our mother nature sir/maam.

I have not seen anywhere anyone have advocated for a total cashless economy because that in itself, is an unattainable objective but what is being advocated is that large portion of transactions should be done cashless. Aside of the obvious reasons which include convenience as I can stay in my room and order goods in China, pay for it then get it deliver to my door step and security as I don't have to carry huge bag of dollars to carry out a transaction as a transfer from my account would get it solved.

On the issue of nature, having a cash denominated economy would get rid of the green environment as we then need to fell more trees in other to house the notes, the vehicle that would transport the cash from one location to another would discharge exhaust in the atmosphere, the factory that the notes would be printed needs to be powered, the generator would be fuelled, and all these costs will need to reoccur this notes are to be replaced. Put all these together, cashless is better off.
1060  Economy / Speculation / Re: How many consumers own cryptocurrency? on: August 29, 2018, 07:22:40 PM
18%, or over 15 million people, of the Turkish population owning BTC is fucking laughable.

https://coin.dance/volume/localbitcoins/TRY/BTC

Turkey's entire BTC volume on Localbitcoins hasn't managed to get above 30 BTC per week this year. Get real.

The figure everywhere will be less than we expect and more than we know about.

Thank you for trying to set the records straight. Ever since the issue of Turkey challenges with their currency has surfaced, its has been one conjecture over the other and I won't be surprised of someone is going to write an article very soon (if it had not been written) linking the current upturn in the price of bitcoin to the economic woes being faced by the Lira in that part of the world.

Countries have their challenges with the value of their currencies at every point in time. It is when the now universal, that it becomes a global issue. Greece has had its own and that didn't lead to surge in crypto. Zimbabwe has witnessed theirs that didn't make the value of bitcoin reach the moon. Nigeria went through its own sometimes last year but crypto price didn't touch $50,000 now Turkey and people are trying real hard to make everything about them. The question we need to ask is how much is the percentage of citizens of Turkey investment in crypto?
