2361  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: August 14, 2013, 01:30:42 PM
I have 1500USD in Gox and it seems that only International Wire transfers are affected, because 2 guys on another forum, that I'm a member reported they got paid quick via SEPA.

Warning: SEPA has never been "quick"! At least not for me. But I still get my money after a few weeks. I never withdarawl more than 999 euros in one go.

If I want to do SEPA my only option is to buy Bitcoins and then sell them for Euro, right?

You have to switch your account to EURO. It will cost you 2.5% of your dollar assets. Then you need a SEPA bank account. You verify it with Mt. Gox and than you can withdrawal your money.

It's maybe not worth worrying about. It might save you a few weeks. Bank transfers always take long for Bitcoin. There are always times where individual exchanges are faster, but once all this AML shit comes with in it takes forever. Plan just several weeks or month. A year ago there was not so much money on Gox. Therefore, it was faster, also because Gox has ignored the laws. Now while everyone wants to withdrawal and the FINCEN is behind them it takes maybe forever. I did not even know until a few weeks ago that USD withdrawals went so fast in the past. I always tought it would be normal to have to wait several weeks.
So nothing has changed for me.  Smiley

Where do you get the information that you can convert money on gox for 2.5%? I don't believe this is true. You would have to buy for USD then sell for EUR, thus it'd be the difference between those plus the fees (two times).

I have cancelled all withdrawals  as none of them went through for 3 months.
Back into BTC, then all BTC withdrawn yesterday out of MtGox and now I am done with them.
For me mtgox is dead as of today.

Where will you trade now ?

has anyone in the EU used bitcoin.de? i saw they just signed an agreement with a real bank in germany and supposedly customers will get free checking accounts as well?

does anyone know if you must be a german resident or can citizens of other EU countries residing outside of Germany take advantage of this??

You must be EU resident.

To do over 2500 EUR you must be vierified. To be verified you must be german resident.

Hope this answers your question.

what is the 2500 limit, weekly, monthly, per tx?
2363  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-07-10 Bitcoin.de announces partnership with Fidor Bank AG on: August 14, 2013, 12:19:26 PM
It appears they cannot verify people outside of Germany so there's a 2500 EUR limit.

Also, my pending orders (about 5 of them) were all automatically released (even though I had not yet verified the bank payments) because they now no longer allow americans.

so you need to be living in germany to get an account with bitcoin.de?  just curious because i am in sweden but may be in berlin in february

let's start BitPAC - donate to my address below and when we reach 1000 BTC we'll start taking Senators out for lunch

since we cant get any money out of mtgox at the moment i will give the senators BTC donations for their upcoming in the form of private keys at 50 BTC increments in honor of the 50 states

1000/50 = 20 i think that's a decent sized voting block, we'll grow from there

of course if BTC goes to $500 soon that's a $25,000 donation

Eventually Team America: World Police will make all Bitcoiners wear a yellow coin badge when they leave the house so the authorities can identify them on sight. This badge will be known as the Star of Satoshi.

You are 100% spot on!

Those who say that this will help BTC go "mainstream" are going to get what they are asking for but they won't like it!

My $.02.

Smiley

I'm guessing Congress will hire some people on this msg board to start PatriotCoin, the digital p2p currency that is constantly inflating
2368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is New York Going too far? on: August 13, 2013, 05:40:04 PM
Many cities have semi autonomous status from the state they are in. Mexico City, Cairo, Singapore are all cities which are either a city-state or have a semi-autonomous status from the rest of the country they are in.

Your comments are laughable and show a certain ignorance about the world, history, the polis and in particular the nature of NYC.

NYC has a population greater than most countries. Even if London is still considered the world's most important banking city, NYC is a close second and a great financial trading capital. NYC has an economy greater than most countries. Court cases brought into courts in NYC affect the whole of the US and also the economy of the world.

NYC, like London before it, and Rome long before, are cities which have certain aspects of being states of their own.

The way the US is set up politically, having individual states has certain benefits politically. Read some Machiavelli and Sun Tsu. A country with weak internal states and a strong central government tends to be repressive. It tends to be hard to conquer but easy to rule once conquered.

As far as your comment that it is laughable from a non-american standpoint how a single city can have it's own regulatory system, since you speak for all non-US citizens, I will merely point out, Singapore, Macao, Mexico City, Vatican City, The Hague, as examples of the stupidity of your comment.

Peace!

It's laughable from a non-american standpoint how a single city can have it's own regulatory system. The whole states thing in America is probably the issue, needs merging.

I'd like to point out, before this argument escalates, that the subpeona actually came from the STATE of New York.... as far as merging goes... that is a slippery slope issue... and merging into a one-world govt is probably not a good idea...
2369  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: If virtual currency is taxed, why not tax sex, it is also a means of exchange... on: August 13, 2013, 05:30:37 PM
How do they calculate the value of sex?
Is it a flat rate or does it depend on the quality?

what is the value of the barter?  if I fix your sisters car and she gives me a sexual favor, what was the equivalent cost of the car fixing? Oil change - $50; break inspection - $25; lube job - $30... and so on
2370  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: If virtual currency is taxed, why not tax sex, it is also a means of exchange... on: August 13, 2013, 04:26:28 PM
Favors, like sex, are also a means of exchange. What is legally the difference between taxing virtual currency and taxing sex?

favors are a form of barter and therefor subject to tax, therefor sexual favors need to be reported to the IRS so that they may be taxed properly
2371  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: August 13, 2013, 02:23:11 PM
ok so the obvious solution is that  Gox should do a 1 per day transfer to bitstamp and btce each day to stabilize the variance in the price.... or some kind of clearing house needs to be set up to handle this using debt instruments (aka ripple?? lmao...)

anyway if you guys thingk we are the only ones having problems....here is a fun article  http://www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/2013/08/08/hsbcs-1-9-billion-money-laundering-fine-and-the-somalian-cost-of-bank-regulation/

and look at what has been happening to the velocity of M2 http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/series/M2V has never been this low since they have been recording....

if this trend continues, no money will be changing hands by 2050...

i feel like we are seeing the collapse of the USSR in slo-mo

2373  Economy / Speculation / Re: NY regulator issue subpoenas to firms tied to Bitcoin: WSJ on: August 13, 2013, 04:12:43 AM
Why subpoenas if they just want dialogue? Seems heavy handed. And will the market react?

NY regulator issue subpoenas to firms tied to Bitcoin: WSJ

(Reuters) - New York's top banking regulator has issued subpoenas to several companies associated with Bitcoin as part of an inquiry into business practices of the virtual currency industry, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The subpoenas issued by the New York Department of Financial Services (DFS) seek information on antimoney laundering programs, consumer protection measures and investment strategies among other topics, the Journal said.

Companies that received subpoenas include Coinbase Inc, BitInstant and Coinsetter, the newspaper said.

relax guys they just want to know how wall street bankers will snort coke in the bathrooms of GS with a rolled up bitcoin...
2374  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: August 13, 2013, 03:58:35 AM
I'm gonna laugh so hard when Gox comes up with faster transfers and everybody screwed themselves over by selling on a cheaper exchange.
LOL!

imagine

 Cheesy

well, we are here to find out. If it was certain, $MtGox was worth zero, there wouldn't just be a difference of 10%. Bets against MtGox currently stand at 9:10. That's not so bad. Because I see the situation worse, I actually bought for 103 on MtGox. For $107 one day later I might have rather taken the risk and waited some more for problems to sort out. Sell all your coins on Gox. No risk no fun Wink

at this rate it might be cheaper to take a short weekend trip to tokyo, ask MT for cash or gold or whatever, take him out for some sake, go to a massage parlor, and fly back... i see round trip from CPH for under 1k...

guys....

can anyone think of any creative way we can get the price of bitstamp or btc-e to match even if its just for a day.

Any creative ideas?
it happens every time there is a market dump, just be patient...
2376  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: August 13, 2013, 01:05:11 AM
I have a pending withdraw from MtGox over 5 weeks old now(USD). I'm starting to think any money in MtGox is considered lost. I'm forced to buy bitcoins and sell them at 10% loss on other exchanges just to get money out of my cocks account.

just use localbitcoins.com you get better rates
2377  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox Bitcoin Withdrawal not working!!! on: August 13, 2013, 12:09:09 AM
There are more people with this problem:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1k81p5/mtgox_denying_btc_withdrawls/

I finally managed it to accept a withdrawal to another address but one hour later the transaction, has still not entered the blockchain...

If only I could finally get rid of them...

did you use a green address? it can take up to 24 hrs as their website states

also i find that if you just pay the tx fee and not use green, its very quick (when it actually works)
2378  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: August 13, 2013, 12:04:24 AM
However, there is no one in the US (that I know of) that currently has all the potential state registrations to take it on.
There is at least one company in the process of obtaining those state registrations with the goal of taking over from Mt Gox in the US, which is something Coinlab apparently never even tried to do.

Last I heard bitinstant had registered in over 30+ states as of a couple months ago, and anyway there are plenty of businesses who have 49 state msb reg that could buy out the business...

this is what a normal company does... https://www.bitinstant.com/updates

business is not rocket science...
2379  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox Bitcoin Withdrawal not working!!! on: August 12, 2013, 09:32:46 PM
Their withdrawal feature is erratic. I can confirm I got "Invalid Address" several times. I hit one that finally worked, but the withdrawal hasn't appeared on the blockchain yet (been about 10 minutes).

But it is true that their green address sees a good number of withdrawals. Seems (again) more like incompetence.

i always pay the network tx fee and when it does go through it is quick...

i swear if BTC fails it is because the people at Gox will bring it down... after all this is all a big experiment at this point
2380  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox: Wait it out or take haircut. (only vote if > $1k in gox account) on: August 12, 2013, 09:13:20 PM

This is a personal question on how $10k fits into your portfolio - what if the amount was $100? What about $5,000,000? If you want to make a calculated decision to wait and see, be aware of your risk of loss. If MtGox goes under and you are left with nothing or pennies on the dollar, will you step up, be a man and accept the results of your investment? I see no problem for those who buy on Bitstamp and sell on MtGox as a calculated investment based on what is known.

+1

this is the right way to look at it
