i think any sites that have cam chat would be great especially if the providers are paid directly in btc, which would result in expansion of the user base. i do not have any in mind as i do not believe in paying for such services but i am sure others do...

email is to mail what cryptocurrency is to currency
and by the way creative destruction implies a recombination of resources that may bring about new (and more) value then the previous of combination resources which it has taken destroyed.
one ought not argue that it is zero sum, certainly not the case with email.
the same for the change from cpu to gpu to asics, and p2pools

I remember marveling at it by the year 2011, that there are two bitcoin markets operating in poland, one of them I can still remember being intersango, and now MtGox's bank account is in Poland again. Why all these market flock in Poland? Is it because it, despite being in eurozone, doesn't use EURO thus is less restrictive about transfers in EURO?
I also would like to know the history behind Bitcoin in Poland. Back in the days Zloty were among the top bitcoin-traded currencies by volume. Even today, the volume is higher than, for example, Canadian dollars. At the same time, I don't hear much about Bitcoin-accepting merchants in Poland. Makes you wonder, right? mtgox bought an exchange that was based out of poland bitomat.pl, which got hacked a few yrs back

In reading this thread we've seen a few people who don't know what Ripple is, nor how it is different.
With Ripple you are trusting other people to pay you back. That is "Promise to pay the bearer" as printed on GBP notes and specifically advised against as a bad idea in the bible. It's an IOU but unlike a Hawala notebook it's digital. Howeverm here's the interesting bit: you can infer trust to someone you don't know via someone else. Thus, if there's someone on the forum yoiu don't know you might be able to get trust via that someone else.
This is good when people are paying their debts but if it goes wrong the debt default Ripple goes through the entire system.
The other good thing is that Ripple facilitates setting up an exchange through the gateways. However, it's not as easy for the average user IMHO.
Finally, the whole thing is glued together with XRP and that is dodgy.
Scam or not, you must at least be aware of all this stuff!
wait you are referencing a book written a few thousand years before modern financial systems were developed for giving financial advice? come on....

If a company wanted to buy btc in country A and sell btc in country B, strictly using exchanges, not to end customers, how would the transfer of money and btc be treated from an accounting standpoint so that the company only pays tax on profit realized from the transaction?
Any thoughts and guidance on this appreciated.
Thanks

If I set up a company to buy/sell BTC only for trading purposes, when the company purchases bitcoins is there a VAT liability created? Obviously exchanges do not collect VAT, but was wonder if anyone has insight into this?
Obviously one needs to pay income tax on corporate profits, but I am wonder how the VAT rules work particularly in Sweden and Poland.

Just realize, if you use encryption, you must think in terms of life in prison or why use encryption in the first place
Or you could spend life in prison for failing to turn over your keys. Or perhaps you just don't want your identity stolen. oh you mean the keys i accidentally lost?

Hi,
I'm looking to start a non-profit "Journal of crypto-finance" which would publish technical papers on crypto-currencies, from various perspectives:
- economics - quantitative finance - legal issues - information technology - cryptography
If anyone is interested in submitting papers (for the first issue, I think papers that are already published on your website/blog is fine, as long as it's not too old) or in reviewing submitted articles in your area of expertise, please let me know.
when would be the first publication? Basically, whenever I end up with about 4 or 5 submitted articles... If you're asking this because you would like to submit an article and you want to know the timeline that you have, think of it this way: even if you don't finish the paper by the first issue, it'll be published in the second issue. Or alternatively you can let me know how much time you need, and if it's a reasonable amount I can withhold the first issue's publication until then. I am asking because I plan to write my masters thesis which will be completed in June of 2014. So I will submit after then. Nice. May I ask what the thesis is about? Just curious Right now I am reviewing literature on the topic, however I am studying in the field of industrial management with a focus on entrepreneurship and innovation so the thesis would focus on those areas.
