They are considered geniuses when create the IQ tests for money?

That's not absurd?

 Huh

watch coinbase overtake paypal in 5 years, unless paypal does something different

you need something(s) to replace ebay... the HSN QVC of the internet age...

I'm not refusing, I'm just arguing.

more like trolling lol
2404  Other / Off-topic / Re: POLL: What's the Average IQ of a bitcointalk.org poster on: August 06, 2013, 11:27:30 AM
I'd like to argue that someone understanding of the English language has little to no correlation to a person's IQ. Indeed, typically those with low IQs tend to be less than proficient. However I don't believe a person's writing can accurately determine their intelligence. Also consider that this forum is made of of users from multiple countries and walks of life, I think it is safe to determine that their reading and writing of the English language has nothing to do with their IQ.

Now to actually answer your question (speculation):
I think the majority is slightly above average. With the mean being somewhere around 110, with a standard deviation of 13.3. The distribution would of course be skewed left (or negative). Something similair to this image. I do not think we follow a standard bell-shape distribution.

You are very likely correct, I was just getting annoyed by a few outliers on the far left of that graph  Wink
2405  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: August 06, 2013, 04:01:45 AM

Yep, good point. And BTW, why would the bank "reject" credits after holding them for a few days?

It's probably possible that funds sent via a bank transfer from a stolen account can be reversed, specially if the stolen report comes shortly after the transfer.

you go it basically

http://www.reba.net/news/wtransfer but this is only for US, who knows what the rules are in JP
2406  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox won't pay me my bitcoins! on: August 05, 2013, 09:03:24 PM
looks like you got your money... but next time pay the network fee, I have found that it seems to hit the blockchain and get processed a lot faster
2407  Other / Off-topic / POLL: What's the Average IQ of a bitcointalk.org poster on: August 05, 2013, 06:53:03 PM
Well I have seen my share of idiotic posts the last few days.  People who just plainly lack a basic understanding of the English language, albeit appearing to be able to write fluently.

So I thought I would come up with this fun vote.

Anyone else know what I am talking about?
2408  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Primecoin GPU Miner on: August 05, 2013, 06:48:15 PM
We might be jealous of your rig, but that's not why we're bashing you. We're bashing you because you're going against what open source and cryptocurrencies are about. You're trying to keep a GPU miner secret so you can hoard coins and bribe the creator to keep it away from anyone else. That's called being a greedy jackass.

Such an irony, people don't need me to tell them that most true Bitcoin enthusiasts no longer hang out in this forum, particularly this alt-coin section.

I may be greedy, but at least I'm brutally honest about it and don't pretend like if I'm not, unlike most of the people posting in this thread, thinly unveiling themselves under the "open source" umbrella  Cool

I may be greedy, yet I share info on how I build my rig or how to mine XPM - you bunch, I saw nothing from you so far, except a couple of BTC and LTC addresses in the footer asking for ppl to bribe you Wink

Do you even understand what the word 'bribe' means? It means that you're offering money to persuade someone to do something, usually something unethical. We all want money, that's not the issue. The issue is that you're willing to stab everyone else in the back to get it.

it is called capitalism, get over it...  however I am going to give you the opportunity to put your money where your mouth is.... since you probably have way more money than me so please feel free to donate some portion of it to my BTC address  Grin

lol, that's not how capitalism works!

I was implying that the other poster is a communist since he has a problem with greed   Grin
2409  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin High Performance on: August 05, 2013, 03:02:26 PM
anyone know of another pool besides ypool? or is there source to run your own p2pool for this out there?
no and no.  XPM doesn't use normal SHA or scrypt parameters, ypool created their own miner and set up the whole share system they use.  I personally think it'd be BS to use their work to build a competing pool, figure it out on your own.

oh really? I had no idea it is not sha or scrypt based........ Roll Eyes

dude get off your high horse a lot of this stuff is open source, i'm simply asking a question and looking for a fact based answer ... not looking for the opinion of the peanut gallery....

anyway i'll go mine some other coin with my machines since ypool is not very reliable...

2413  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-08-04 WSJ: Famed Trader Joe Lewis Backs Bitcoin on: August 05, 2013, 10:50:27 AM
Let's just take it for gospel that Avalon is getting $200M in VC to compete with BFL which is at best a $30-$40M GROSS sale company.

Do you realize that sales would have to be in the billions for a VC to even see the return of their principal, let alone profit/interest?

The only thing that would make since is if there's one or two too many zeros in that $200M figure.

Therefore, I see only two possibilities: Somebody fucked up the research or Bitcoin's being played.

There is more uses for ASIC dev then just processing for the bitcoin network...
2414  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-08-04 WSJ: Famed Trader Joe Lewis Backs Bitcoin on: August 05, 2013, 10:45:19 AM
Not good that a big-time thief like this guy is getting involved with mining. Mining is the way to control Bitcoin. Once you control the mining operation, you can do anything with Bitcoin you want. It not longer is beholden to limited supply or anything. They know this. Once the masses jump into Bitcoin and these mega douches control everything Bitcoin is over, it will be just another exploited currency. The problem is that we are still in their system of monetary control - i.e., they can buy up anything they want and that includes Bitcoin. The only time to strike is is when their system has collapsed.

Please learn how bitcoin works first

+1

I don't see why the merchants, users & other miners should care too much if some massive miner starts building a chain of blocks with some other ruleset.

It won't be one miner, its going to be most of the network. We are the minority, the mindless masses are the majority. They aren't going to care about your forked network, they just want the one that they are told they are allowed to use. "We" are going to be the "chain of block with some other ruleset" if you let these criminals into the mining operation.

Are you trying to imply there are not already many criminals involved in mining operations?  Seems like the kettle calling the teapot black to me.

Get over it, and stop trying to compare who has the bigger d**k in the room.  This guy helped collapse GBP, he is a hero in my book.
2415  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: August 05, 2013, 10:28:35 AM
Which bank makes it easy for US citizens to open in Japan? How long does withdrawal usually take from Gox to a Japanese bank?
Talk to a Union Bank branch in the United States. Union Bank is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group.  They may be able to set you up with an account in Japan which can accept domestic Japan wire transfers. "For more information, call Union Bank's Foreign Exchange Specialists at 1-866-868-4034."

You would need to set up a sub in JP, there is some consultant I found who will do the paperwork for the set up for $2200... I would be more than happy to do this if I found some partners.
2416  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Two weeks more for cash withdrawals of USD!!!!!!! on: July 31, 2013, 08:00:30 AM
why would they post that?  you can transfer the cash to bitstamp and coinbase, and sell on gox and repeat and make a easy 5% profit

If it was possible to withdraw on mt.gox  Roll Eyes

have you tried to withdrawal 5+ figures?  anyway it is very common for transactions of that size coming from outside the US to take a couple weeks to clear at least... if it was otherwise BTC probably would not exist lol

I use to have 6 figure gox payments that took less than 24 hours to post to my bank in the states.

So no it does not commonly take a couple weeks.

You have no idea what your talking about.

Correct, in my experience this is the case with wires from Asia, our foreign office would send out wires at noon (3am US time) and we'd receive them by 11am local time on the west coast.  No special relationships with bankers or managers required.

With Gox, we were receiving 5+ figure wires fairly quickly from Japan, but after June they started stalling and giving us the run-around.  Finally we were tired of waiting several weeks and decided to take an exchange hit and transfer out via BTCs.

then you must have an established account, which may not be the case for some people...  anyway my point is that the funds can take a while to clear depending on the banks and account holders involved.  one should not assume that just because some thing works a certain way for oneself that it always works the same for everyone else...

but whatever...

if sha-2 had to be replaced with something else, would that make any ASICs operating at that point in time obsolete?  hashing power would plummet?

yes i actually do, you have no idea how banking works clearly.

it is not possible to post same day in the banking world between multiple banks, so unless you use the same bank or have a special relationship where a manager is approving the funds clearing.

furthermore, normally banks will hold your funds past a certain maximum defined for your account for X days and release the funds, once you establish a track record this usually gets increased... but maybe if you are playing monopoly with your grandpa...
