862  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it better to save money or invest it? on: January 03, 2017, 04:25:36 PM
Both
Investing is a great way to use money to make money, although there are risks involved (varying, depending on the investment), and if something went wrong then you could lose some or all of your investments.

Saving is a good way to have assurance/retirement. Car breaks down or want to retire? What about if you lose your job or lose your investments? This is when your savings are needed.
863  Economy / Economics / Re: Is USD being used for illegal activities? on: January 03, 2017, 04:18:06 PM
I see more and more articles of the USD being used for illegal activities, such as funding of terrorists and unconstitutional, illegal wars, funding of wars that cause severe infringement of civil liberties like /2012/12/06/opinion/branson-end-war-on-drugs/]the war on drugs, among other things. I am pretty sure that when goons smash into convenience stores and steal stuff, then the money they probably steal is USD, which makes it criminal currency. Also, I am pretty sure that the baseball bats that majority of the goons have bought were paid for by the USD.

Also, most people collect rain water, drink raw milk, and throw cannabis seeds in soil, all three acts which are considered serious illegal felonies punishable by seriously expensive fines and extensive jail time, possibly life in prison.

Some people also walk, drive, fish, or hunt without a permit that can easily be bought for in USD.

Will this hurt USD in the long run? Will governments ban this just like they started to do with paying in cash for some services to harden the use of illegal activities, and money laundering?

No, it's not going to be banned, and I can assume that this thread is being said because people say the same about bitcoin. USD and bitcoin are very similar in the sense that both can be used for good and bad reasons, however, bitcoin is pseudonymous and can issue remote transactions, where USD cash is anonymous and all other forms of USD transfer (wire, check, credit card, PayPal, ect.) is anything but anonymous (which is one reason why the government might hate bitcoin).

Another thing different in the eyes of the government is that USD can be seized, although in the US (thanks to the 4th amendment of the constitution) it is somewhat hard for the government to seize money (or anything else).
864  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a loan of 0.01676 BTC on: January 03, 2017, 03:38:55 PM
this makes me feel like asking for a loan again
All that will happen is you'll get yourself a red trust level. Get yourself a lot more trust or a collateral. It also helps if you explain more why you need your loan.

I feel stupid, I thought you were OP.

867  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: VPN that accepts Bitcoin on: January 02, 2017, 06:39:42 PM
I haven't used VPNs in a long time but I remember a few years back I had a Chrome extension called Hola that worked pretty well. You could choose which country you wanted your IP address to appear to be originating from. I'm not an expert in VPN and I only used it for a little while but I never had any problems with it plus it was free.
Careful, Hola VPN may be using your computer like a TOR exit node (see "Criticism" in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hola_%28VPN%29#Criticism)
868  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Is cloud mining altcoins profitable? on: January 02, 2017, 06:03:25 PM
So, assuming I use a legitimate cloud mining company, are there still altcoins worth cloud mining? I know that the rising amount of bitcoin miners makes bitcoin cloud mining relatively unprofitable, but is profitable to mine coins like Litecoin, Monero, Eutherium or the like?
869  Economy / Economics / Re: If bitcoin price is $10.000, will fiat be worthless? on: December 31, 2016, 08:37:13 PM

Quote
Bitcoin will be seen as an alternative many many as a mode of investment and if you are really into it you would know that.
Shots fired   Sad

Yes, I know bitcoin can be used as an investment, but that's due to its instability. If bitcoin stables out and gets adopted as a currency instead of it being used as an investment/speculation it could be used a a regular currency and it would become nearly impossible to use it as an investment. And yes, I believe the point of bitcoin is to be used as a currency, not an unstable investment.
870  Economy / Economics / Re: If bitcoin price is $10.000, will fiat be worthless? on: December 31, 2016, 05:13:19 PM
No, fiat is going to be around for a long time. I think the better question is: if Bitcoin is worth 10,000$ will it become a recognized alternative to fiat? 'Cause we aren't even there yet.
871  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Great way to make Bitcoin! on: December 31, 2016, 04:51:49 PM
So, what's new in these suggestions ?

Nothing!
We all know this.
"Learn a skill what is in demand"-> I mean come on!!
Not everybody for instance can learn to write code and will be good in that for instance.
This thread is useless.
Just do what you can do best and exchange some of that earnings into Bitcoin if you can afford it.That's it!

I wouldn't call this thread useless. In the little time since I've joined this forum I've seen a lot of people asking for some magical way to get bitcoin, and I think people need to realize that bitcoin (like any other currency) is earned by exchanging it for goods/services.
872  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What exactly is "taint" with bitcoins? on: December 31, 2016, 04:45:40 PM
Like @BitcoinNewsMagazine pointed out, a mixer will probably just get you blamed for someone else's crimes. If you want my advice then mixers are probably something you should stay away from (then again I'd recommend not committing any crime that would require a mixer, so if you need a mixer you probably won't be interested in my advice).

So, I do get a coupon when I verify my phone/email and a second if verify my address, or do I need to verify all 3 before I get any?

877  Other / Beginners & Help / Once my client initiates the transaction can it lose it's connection and work? on: December 20, 2016, 02:05:14 PM
I understand that bitcoin operates on the history of transactions and miners processing them and that I can still receive a payment when my address/wallet is offline, but I don’t know if the sending wallet has anything more to do then just signing the transaction and submit it to the bitcoin network.

I’m using Electrum as my wallet and have a semi unstable internet connection, so I’m just making sure that if my connection dies the second after I initiate the transaction it will go through (assuming all else is well).
878  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / What's a few good altcoins to mine? on: December 20, 2016, 01:29:05 AM
As a person with regular consumer hardware who wants to try crypto currency mining for the first time I know that bitcoin is not going to be very profitable (not that I expect to earn much anyway). Does anybody know of a few coin types that are much easier to mine?
879  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help finding escrows on: December 20, 2016, 01:06:13 AM
Just what I needed, thanks.
880  Other / Beginners & Help / Help finding escrows on: December 19, 2016, 11:59:49 PM
I know that this subforum is more for newbie bitcoin questions, but this question probably has a rather simple answer that most everybody who has experience with this forum knows.

So how do I go about with finding an escrow? I read the “Trust No One!” thread, although that doesn’t really answer my question since I kind of need to trust my escrow, right? One of the biggest reasons I came here was so I’d have a place to try to buy into (and maybe sell) some odd alt coins, and as a new member here (with 1 post as of writing this) it would make sense for others to not trust me (I could just be a scammer hiding behind TOR), and since I’ll probably be interested in doing exchanges sometime I’ll probably need help finding an escrow that I can trust. Any advice?

P.S. An escrow is just a person in the middle who manages the transaction to prevent either party from scamming each other, right, or am I completely misunderstanding this?
