Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

any news with bittrex? i got coin there i want out!!

arb you can arb this coin how?

You can still sell them. You just can send or receive. If you want out just put in a sell order. No worries....This crypto game is tough. Not for the light hearted....I wish you well....

I guess he doesn't want out, he just wants to send his coins "out" of Bittrex Smiley. There are so many flavours of English Grin
If I understood correctly, Bittrex is in process of resyncing, and wallet should be working soon (maybe in a week or so though, due to slow resync). Would be nice to get confirmation from Richie though...

I think I read that wrong. My bad......The resync does take some time, but I leave my computers running most of the time, so leaving it up for a week doesnt really change things with me.

We have been and still resyncing... couple days left given the current speed ;(

thanks

Some notes regarding successful rebuilding local blockchain using bootstrap file:
  • before starting, remove everything from 8bit directory excluding wallet.dat, 8bit.conf, bootstrap.dat
  • set maxconnection to 0 (maxconnections=0) to make sure you don't use peers as blocks source, set if back to the desired value after successful resync
  • if you close your wallet before finishing resync and bootstrap.dat will be renamed to bootstrap.dat.old, rename it back to bootstrap.dat. Start your wallet, it will quickly (very quickly) scan already imported blocks and continue from the block on which you have closed your wallet

It works, I used it. No problems and fast. Updated a wallet in about  30 min.

Thanks....

I try to always verify first, especially with this particular blockchain.  It seems to take quite a while to get fully in sync, if my wallets somehow become offline.  I also have a node that's outside of my network, on a machine that typically never gets rebooted, and both always appear to be in line with the explorer.

Cool thanks...Its very helpful if you want to get the wallet up and running. Just download the file unzip and replace the files that were unzipped. and restart your wallet with the rescan flag.

I finally moved my coins from my broken messed up wallet to a new wallet. So relieved. Any thoughts moving forward on how we can get a new wallet that works without these troubles?

8bit blockchain is available on CryptoChainer.com.  Updated as of 4/24/16.  For some reason, this wallet is a particular resource hog, and finds itself hung fairly often, takes forever to sync, and is generally frustrating.  I hope someone takes the reins, and does something cool with this all-but-forgotten gem of a coin.

That's true. Therefore, full code re-base is required.

That doesnt sound easy...Are there any plans for this to happen? My wallet still runs 24/7...And yes it is a resource hog.

Hiya folks, sorry I've been gone a while, busy with my job/USD work as of late... But, hey I'm still running wallets (masternodes and staking) here too, 24/7...

A couple of things though...

1.  It seems folks have been scripting requests to the faucet, which has seriously outpaced the earnings from the underlying wallet staking for a while...   So, now the faucet's balance is 0 8bit... So, it's dead... If the community at large see's the faucet as valuable, we're going to need to get some donations going to the faucet... That said, let's discuss this a bit before anyone jumps into donations for the wallet, as some new script-proof code would be a good idea before we relaunch things.

2. I still don't code C for shit, but I'm more than happy to help with the efforts to relaunch the wallet with new code.  18 years designing and building UNIX/Linux networks has given me some valuable skills.  So, assuming there's interest, I'm more than happy to apply those IT and project management skills to the 8bit ecosystem in any way I can.

As recently said here, this is an absolute gem of an altcoin. The potential here is still absolutely amazing, it just requires a realistic amount of work behind the scenes to get things rolling again...  Is there any interest in getting the real players here together (slack, irc, zoom, whatever!) and hammering out a road-map, goals, accountability/rewards, and timelines to get this all back on-track?  Bueller?
