I am speechless.

You think you know stuff, but then you find data that blows your view of the world totally out of the water.

* One company, Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation, cleared $1.6 Quadrillion in transactions value last year. I didn't even know a quadrillion was a number.
http://www.afr.com/business/banking-and-finance/quadrillion-dollar-corporation-at-the-heart-of-the-financial-system-20150707-gi6w7b

* The global IT market is worth $4 trillion. Trillion ( I knew that number existed).

This is bits and bytes moving around wires in the $quadrillions. How many oil tankers would you need to store quadrillions worth of $10 bills?

Well this sites states that 1 trillion in $100 bills would take ~169 sea cans. So $10 bills would take ~1690 cans. (per wikipedia $10s and $100s are the same size/weight)

http://ggallman.com/trillion.htm

1 quadrillion is 1000 trillion so 1690000 cans.

A New Panamax size ship transports max 13000 cans

http://maritime-connector.com/wiki/panamax/

So if I didn't mess up the math 1690000 / 13000 = 130 New Panamax ships for 1 quadrillion  Grin

Edit: Just to have a visual reference the length of those ships would be ~47.5Km.

That's a super cool analysis. Thanks!

So at $1.6 trillion, this one company clears over 70km worth of Panamax ships full of $10 notes.

The scale of global financial trade is truly breathtaking.

The scale of global IT spend and IT spend within finance is truly breathtaking.

The Blockchain is going to be one big mother ship of revenue and profit.

I reckon around 0.1 km worth of Panamax ships full of $10 notes  Grin

But that is what people do: we compare, everything.

It's actually a trait held within DNA. It's at the heart of what Charles Darwin discovered and wrote about. Survival of the most adapted - its why evolution happens slowly.

Evolution not revolution. You have to take people with you, or they call you a crackpot and send you to work at McDonald's.

Slack. What are we going to do about Slack.

This thread will begin to see a bit more action as we move closer to ServiceNode testing.

In the meantime, rest assured that among the more exciting things being discussed on Slack, you ain't missing much. Here is an example of the exciting stuff that happens behind the scenes:

"......BOOST_CURRENT_FUNCTION is awesome...."

"I just ordered a mega dürüm for me, and a pizza calzone...."

"An excellent reminder on the importance of wording courtesy of the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-33629019 "

To be fair, there is some other great stuff in the works as the devs prepare for testing, but I'm under penalty of death if I tell you the non-trivial stuff.

This is a great chart to keep tabs on

https://getaddr.bitnodes.io/nodes/

Two weeks into the update from core 10 to core 11,

* 1681 have updated (been paying attention to news, know what's what, professional miners, merchants, other businesses, etc.)
* 3163 still on core 10
* balance, haven't been paying attention for over a year

If we can get more than 40% of nodes running on servicenodes, we will have the largest professional node network in the world. Bitcoin would hum like a well oiled payments machine with SPR as the backbone  Cool

You're right, it will take time for people to realise all the financial bloat is unnecessary now. A lot of those figures are just recycling the same 'money' around and around between the traditional finance players, but the figures are still mind blowing. Once crypto removes the need for 90% of the leeches the volumes will be much less, but the actual economic activity created will be much higher, and much more efficient. Global productivity will explode as people get fast cheap access to community driven credit. It'll be great to watch!

Try the https://spr.suprnova.cc miners & the pool.

Would be nice to get some feedback on the performance of the pool.

Read the OP for T&Cs / white paper on using pools.

or

Watch the video on solo mining SPR

Having worked on a project for 12 months with one of the biggest banks in the world, I can tell you they love the money merry-go-round.

Every time money passes through the financial system, the people moving funds from one relay to the next skim a small %.

If you think about it, Coinbase, BitPay, Bitfinex, Cryptsy, Bittrex, etc are all skimming off the BTC that moves around the system.  If you add up the combined enterprise value of all the BTC businesses that skim the market of BTC, their value works out being much more than the current market value of Bitcoin.

Skimming is part of the game. We are building a p2p exchange to get our share  Grin
