Georgem, will one computer be able to run multiple service nodes?

No, one servicenode per IP only. (using port 41678).

Also every altcoin hosted can only exist once.

When UBA sees two coins with the same blockchain but different port, it will only consider one of them.
(the one that is using the official port for that coin)

So servers with multiple IPs will only be able to run only one service node?

Just what I wanted to ask. Smiley

What will be possible (though I am not sure if in first version) is that one wallet can manage many servicenodes.

Meaning for example, you can remotely add collateral.

Ok, if someone has 2 servicenodes on one IP will the one with more Spreadcoins be used?

Also, with altcoin wallets, what if someone has 2 ports that are both non default open, then what would happen, just one would be picked?

No, as I said:

No, one servicenode per IP only. (using port 41678).

Depending on how your server is configured, you can host multiple servicenodes side by side.

But they will all require unique IPs or there will be a conflict. (they won't be able to communicate properly with the rest of the network)

This suits professional hosting, which will give super fast connectivity to other nodes and SPVs.  Our nodes will be in high demand as a result.

Reinforcing the idea of hosting one BN, SN, MN  on one vps, i think (if you don't need to compile the client yourself) a VPS with a 40GB HDD, 256/256 (ram/swap) will work just fine.

Your service node will become a small business. You'll want to earn the most you can by having the best infrastructure that gives the best overall return.

Ok, if someone has 2 servicenodes on one IP will the one with more Spreadcoins be used?

The one that is visible and accepted from within the network will be accepted.
If there are other instances of invalid servicenodes on your harddisk is irrelevant.

(it's how "others see you" visavis how "you see yourself" (which is irrelevant in this case)).

Also, with altcoin wallets, what if someone has 2 ports that are both non default open, then what would happen, just one would be picked?

Just as a reminder: The operation of the altcoins is basically left alone by the servicenodes.
You are required to tell the servicenodes in the conf file what the data path of each coin is.

If the servicenode then finds out that you gave it two paths that point to two blockchains of the same coin, it will only consider one of them.
I'm not yet 100% sure what the best way will be to choose the right blockchain in such a conflict.

Official port sounds reasonable, but there could be better ways. (like, which blockchain version has the UBA already done more work with?)

The Whitepaper Link in the ANN is broken.

No, it isn't.

I went to the official website and by mistake i found the "proof of bitcoin node" whitepaper (the interesting one), because it keeps disappearing in some stupid JS effects and it cannot be found in the download page neither.

Yes, I admit, there is some confusion regarding whitepapers and spreadcoin. But we are working on fixing this.

  • We have mr.spread's original whitepaper (which is important, since it's about the basic functionality of our coin).

  • Then we have the most recent whitepaper (or shall we say proposal) regarding "Proof of Bitcoin Node" and "Bitcoin Big Data Mining".
(which is based on ongoing research by coins101, stonehedge and chaositec)

  • And then there is the upcoming new technical whitepaper that I am slowly putting together that will cover "Servicenodes" and their first Service, a "Decentralized Blockexplorer".

I will change the structure of the website and roadmap to clarify all this.

I guess those that want to change the image of the new wallet will have to post some suggestions, when the final production wallet is ready, the chosen version can be forked on github from whatever is in the final wallet release.

So, please give any examples of pics for the wallet, minus any childish stuff like porn, nsfw, etc.

Profit and Loss from running a ServiceNode:

Have a play and let me know if anything needs fixing

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1sqwY4qRWB2zqJEk9kiZB0mHPi9A6Vfuu3QA-ruy4Q8s/edit#gid=1994079775

NB: None of the details have been finalised yet, so this is just for illustration.

edit

At 3,000 Service Nodes and a decent price, the blue band is the range where things get very interesting:

Some context to the block chain data, for those who think this is going to be about identifying people (which is 100% not the case)

https://lists.linuxfoundation.org/pipermail/bitcoin-dev/2015-August/010620.html

You know, basically what a dns-seeder does: return a set of healthy full node IPs.
Maybe that's something the decentralized explorer could do too.

Amazing! Real services for people to actually use!

I can't wait to test all of this georgem, super exciting.

I was reading through the old testnet forum on spreadcointalk for nostalgia, i forgot how involved everyone was, you, stone, wolf0 and others Smiley

I think i'm safe to say we could write a short novel about spr by the time SN's hit the market.

Edit:

Just thinking about how many times i have searched through pages and pages of forum posts to find good fresh new seeds.

So right away, i would have use for it. Brilliant

Cryptsy seems to be imploding. CEO reportedly flown to China (could be on holiday, I guess)

Edit

Looks like they have left the building, too

My bad. The broken link is in the original thread, which is in itself an additional layer of confusion.

Spreadcoin looks good, but i must admit that im not that technical and there are so many pages so cant really find were to start.

But what Does spreadcoin actually offers thats unique or can someone give me a good summary about spreadcoin ?

I know that many people that are less technical can appreciate it a lot =D. (so will i)

Thx in advance, and devs good luck

Yes, i made some small changes

Added

-Coin supply
-Market cap
-Changed reward from 30% to 40%
-Changed amount of nodes from 166 to 1600 Shocked

Assuming the coin supply stayed the same it will take the price of SPR to be $0.30 or a market cap of $1,400,000 for hosting a node to be profitable (Which btw would be completely reasonable). The problem is the cost of 10 nodes say would be around $150 a month and the net profit would only be $50.
I think this will discourage big players from joining in the competitive SN market and leave only hardcore spreadcoiners to host nodes at a loss or barely break even.

Therefor i propose lowering the factor of 2880 (Is it 2880 i can't remember?) to allow a smaller amount of nodes in the market place at the beginning. Instead of 1600, maybe 1200 or 1300? This would greatly help SN operators make a profit in the early to mid term stages of the network growth. Also i think we would have more healthy nodes on the network as a result of profit being higher.

These are my suggestions for the first version of testnet!

-Changed reward from 30% to 40%

Therefor i propose lowering the factor of 2880

There is another source of income that we have to consider (maybe in later versions).

We can think about services that people are willing to pay a small amount of SPR for.

For example an Alert-Service of some kind.

People might want to receive notification when there is movement in some address,
or when a blockchain hasn't updated for X amount of time, or a new record transaction size within a block has been made,
or any other thinkable "block chain event" that might happen....etc...

Pay 0.1 SPR (or something) and the servicenode network notifies you when something that interests you happens.

This additional income then goes to miners (and ergo servicenodes).

Yep, those 30-40% will be taken from reward + fees.
