I've been gambling off and on for over 17 years and I can say that I still enjoy it so it definitely has not wrecked my life.  For me, it's good for entertainment but of course it's always nicer to win.  I would just recommend that anyone interested should just be careful and only play with what they can afford to lose.  From there, it's just an educational process of trying out various strategies.

But I have to say about laws against gambling... they are just stupid.  Gambling was outlawed in the days when gun slingers were killing each other for cheating.  Those days are long gone and the only protection needed for gamblers is regulation to enforce provably fair games.  Gambling should not be illegal anywhere at all.

moderation is key I guess, but many people have issues with self-control and can never stop; just a passing thought but maybe gambling is illegal in places and has restrictions in places it isnt so that all the money doesnt end up in the hands of the casinos, if that were to happen the economy would halt as the people would have no money to spend. just a thought though.

I disagree that the reason for restricting gambling is the fear of casinos.  I really think that most laws that forbid gambling are relics of the 19th century.  Regardless of where the laws come from or why the laws exist, it is my simple opinion that such laws are against the freedom of humanity.  Laws that oppress shouldn't be laws in the first place.  But to your concern of Casinos becoming too powerful, that is indeed an important concern and that's why it should be regulated.  I'm also not against certain areas making their own laws.  For example, religious states should be able to govern how they please.  I wouldn't want to live in a religious state but even in the US it seems unavoidable despite so called "separation of church and state".

valid point as well; but my point wasnt about casinos becoming too powerful, my point was going for more of how many people might become completely broke as a result of poor decisions involving gambling, and as a result the economy of free market countries would be crippled without the people having spending power.

theres nothing here. message me if you want to put something here.

Gambling can never affect my life, as i am not addicted to gamble, sure i love the rush it brings while the dice is rolling, roulette spinning.., but i also know what i can and can not afford to loose.
Learned my lession about 6 years ago, when i lost ~2000EUR on an online roulette, and the funny part is that even with that large loss i was overall still in large profit, but since i
was spending far more than i should of (not realizing i will loose whole pot), i ended up short and had to take a loan to get back up.

From that day on, i know my limits, and while ill never stop gambling, i know i wont be risking more than i can afford. I would advise the same to everyone.
It makes no sense to give up the rush, unless you really have an addiction, it's just important to follow your rules each time you play.

cheers

I can see what you are saying but you don't need a casino for that.  Just look at Greece.  Their government took economic gambles and now millions are completely broke and living under "austerity" measures and all they gambled on was economic policies.  So yes, gambling does destroy lives.  Just not always we think it does.

Gambling is a loss for the player because the house (casino) has the edge all the time.
Beginner's luck is true but you have to know when it is time to take your winnings and leave.

Gambling makes alot of people poor and the only winners are the casinos unfortunately or they wouldn't exist in the first place.

Dude I have been to Greece. All they do every day is party 80% of the time and work is minimal lol. Shops close at 5 pm and there is a lunch break. If you think they are 'broke' you are way wrong. The idiots in Europe should stop giving loans to lazy bums.

Gambling can never fix your life. Instead it will wreak and leave you devastate.

Someday you might win big but in the long run you will end up broke and lose all your money.

Remember the house edge always win no matter what.

If you are the owner of a casino then thats a different story btw.

if you don't have money to blow then why are you gambling in the first place? gambling for pennies is a waste of time, time that could be used on something more lucrative, like a job which should help you out if you're "not very rich."

i found my self broke because gambling
i found my life in a mess because gambling

but because gambling too suddenly rich, suddenly be a billionaire
because gambling too you know what it is the real have fun

how about you?

is gambling fix your life? or wreck your life?

I could manage my gambling addiction very well, eventhough I am not high roller. I didn't even take a penny from my salary to gamble, yeah I mean online gambling , I don't gamble in my real life. I am using free money I got from here or other giveaways. So if I made profit, it means 100 profit for me, if I lost, I lost nothing.

If you are not very rich why the hell would you gamble? It won't help you earn instead will make you total broke. Don't gamble with the money you can't afford to lose. Else you would have to face the disaster.

A lot of examples of people starting with 50$ or so who became relatively rich. I myself started with 5-10$ and grinded it from there, making it to 6 figures.

...and I myself saw dozens of ruined lives, families, houses and kids. you may become rich in short-term with serious portion of luck and self-control. in long-term? I really don't think so.

true, sports/e sport betting is still gambling, and I wasn't taking that into consideration when I typed that; I was referring more to gambling as in the more common sorts: dice, roulette, etc; -ev gambling. your betting is pretty +ev though.

Gambling has neither fixed nor wrecked my life, the thing is I play in moderation and don't get greedy plus I don't play games which I am playing the house aka roulette, dice, slots etc because in the long run you will always lose. I play poker and now and again I bet football all in all I'm up and play for fun which gives me some extra pocket money.

Do not compare apples and oranges here. How many hours of hard work to improve their game did these "people you saw" put in? I would say zero or near zero, because they were just typical dice rolling addicts.

What is the "long term"? Is 11 years long term enough?

Well, anything that includes a bet, a chance, and a prize is gambling by the definition. Question is, can you get an edge or not?

95% of people equal gambling to dice and stuff, and make a conclusion that everyone will go broke eventually, which is a fair observation.

They would be right, if there was nothing more to gambling other than dice and roulette.

There are several ways and sevaral reasons to gamble, some of them will win you money, some of them wont. But if your reasons are right, you can still enjoy it. Problems start occuring when people gamble in a wrong way, for the wrong reason. (and a lof of people do exactly that)
