This line seems extremely likely: 9. exd5 Nxd5 10. Nxe5 Nxe5 11. Rxe5 c6  Maybe we should just propose it and continue from there. I think it would be jumping the gun  For instance, he can refuse the gambit by playing 9. d4. Nah, he´s not going to refuse it after playing c3. If he wasn´t interested in meeting the Marshall he´d have played a4 or d3. |

And it´s a variation of the Marshall. But it´s not known to cause black much problems which is why it´s pretty rare. It can lead to setups similar to the Open if I remember correctly. |

It´s pretty much a forced line and theory. I couldn't find any alternatives where we would come out ahead on the exchanges. Black sacrifices a pawn for a lead in development. He gets initiative. It´s kind of double-edged for both sides which is why it often leads to enjoyable games. Which is good because truth to be told most chess games are pretty boring affairs. |
