Decided to "make a thing" to power my S7s Grin. Hope some of you will appreciate this!

2X 2000w server PSUs sharing the load of the 3 S7s. Will shortly be replacing the PSUs with the 2500w versions since I'm actually pulling 4400w DC from them right now, which is 200w over their rating on each.

I've adjusted the voltage output to 12.6v on the PSUs.

Sweet any plans to sell your creation? hows the over volting working for you do you notice any substantial hashing gains?

Don't think so, it was incredibly labour intensive. Don't think it would be worth my time.

Over volting allowed me to set much higher frequencies:

I don't recommend overclocking this much, though. Can probably end up killing them.

PS mindtrip, could you please remove the [ img ] [/ img ] tags from your post so my pictures aren't repeated? They take up a lot of room in my post as it is, no need to have them copied below. Smiley

if he is not, I've this breakout board that does exactly the same thing:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1178099.0

-load sharing
-voltage adjust (11.3v to 13.0v / 11.7v to 13.7v)
-optional sideplates for easier mounting of the fans.

Finksy will sell them soon for the North America market, in the mean time, I'm taking care of the orders.

Heh, I was actually about to post a link to your thread. That's definitely the way to go! I already had all of this equipment on hand, so I decided to make the best of it.

When you have the tools to do it, only need a few made and have some spare time, it's often cheaper and more rewarding to do it yourself than to buy something that's manufactured by someone else.

Your setup is quite nice, and does the job.
My only concern is the fact that it takes a lot of space (assuming you'll protect the bare copper plates for your own safety)

I was thinking that, after i was done with being amazed by the setup. (Mostly the fact that its more TH/s than all my many crap miners that takes tons of room) I was thinking i would use this to build some kind of enclosure;

First there is a pool section. => https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=41.0

Second, current luck doesn't represent the future

Third, thanks but no thanks

I understand there is a "pool section."

I'll take it down in a few.

As for luck...  They had only 1.1 PH/s a few days ago.  Now they are over 4.6 PH/s.  They've recently had a couple of decent size farms add some hash in the last couple of days to make it where the variance is more manageable.  Hence, the rise in luck with better variance.

Trust me on that : current luck doesn't represent the future whatever variable/formula you want to put into your reflection

I'm aware of that.  I'm mainly referring to "variance."  The variance is more manageable with a higher hash rate on a pool operated by top notch staff when "luck" is low.

Totally opposite on Slush Pool.  They have a hell of a lot of hash but staff that doesn't know what they are doing.  Look at the orphans they have...

I would be willing to bet if you saw all of the hash rate you see at Slush on CK/Kano Pool, you would not see all of those orphans.

Congratulations ?

Seriously this an S7 thread, please stop that

I understand...

No more...  At least for a while.

I took the first one down after a while [Like I said].  And I just took the second one down after about an hour [Like the previous one].

Great rig man. Kudos! 12.5V+ opens up some good OC headroom on the S7.

There is not yet a firmware update for Batch 7, so I would stick with what you have got for now.

to follow up on firmware updates.  bitmaintech firmware updates have not had a great track record over the last 2 years.  I never update  firmware from them.

This is on 12-15 s-1's
15-18 s-3's
3 or 4 s-5's
and 5 s-7's

I can find at least 20 I bricked my gear posts during a firmware up date.

I can not find 20 my gear is great now that I updated the firmware posts.

I suggest never update bitmaintech firmware on your gear.

Unless your gear is bricked and you posted about it here and contacted bitmaintech.

Edit: if others have done a firmware update on the exact same piece of gear that you have (ie all boards and same oem firmware)  It may be okay to do as some have pointed out the s-5 had a good firmware upgrade.

I assume the firmware on the website is the initial one:

buddy of mine told me next batch is already available for order but released in mainland china for now & delivery is somewhere in jan 2016.

the more you oc, the more hw error, rejects, dupes & others NOT accepted share by the pool even if you see a low HW error. do keep an eye out there especially oc'ing fans.

PLEASE DO NOT OC if you do not have a PSU with an output of minimum +12V with loads. i'd say +12.5V & up below 13V then prolly a tad with good results on both miner & pool side. let it run 12 hrs or more & find a suitable setting.

obviously keep an eye on the temps too. so far i think most find that the chip works more "efficiently" around the 60 deg C range.

GL to all & hope to see more results.

the more you push it, the shorter the lifespan.

always your own risk in oc'ing.

And I suggest the opposite.  Always upgrade the firmware after it's been tested.  My S5's had an issue of dropping to 600 GH every once in a while and the only way to restore full functionality was to reboot them.  I installed the latest firmware and haven't had the issue since.

I think there is a middle ground, which is upgrade if there is a good reason to do so, such as the S5 release that kept the fans running when you lost Internet or when fan control was added.

That firmware update may be the only one they ever had that truly was worth doing.  So I will go back and slightly alter my post.

I went back and did the edit.

Now so far more then one person has said the s-7 firmware updates do not fix the no internet problem.

So frankly I do not recommend doing any firmware up grades on an s-7.

I set my fans on manual control (50%)  and get them to run at 3600 + 3480 rpm.

This fixes the no internet issue.  Or at least has done so for me on three occasions I dropped the net.

Great rig man. Kudos! 12.5V+ opens up some good OC headroom on the S7.

Thanks, it certainly does! Just wondering if I should tempt fate by lettings them run that high.

Regarding firmware, I'm with phil on this one. The only update that has been worth it for me was an S4 update which actually made the miner work. When it shipped it was unusable. On the other hand, bitmain has a history of removing features with firmware updates. Removed voltage control on S4, and removed overclocking on S4+. The S4 can be flashed to older firmware to get it back, the S4+ can not. Complete bullshit on bitmain's behalf, they can't be trusted.
