This thread has recently blown up with posts which is great to see as at one stage it was just myself, Kemarit and one or two other guys posting in here. I'm really liking Alex de Minaur in the Sydney International to maybe go all the way and win the tournament, he has been playing some very good tennis coming off a very successful 2018 so I think he has a big chance at winning.

Exactly, nice to see this thread come to life again with so many fans and not just fans but offering a lot of tips and analysis of the game. As a have said before, Alex de Minaur is the future of Australian tennis and it will be just a matter of time for him to be the a future Grand Slam winner.

Nadal was in action last night in the fast4 tennis event where he was up against Kyrgios, Nadal ended up losing the match but it gave him a chance to get some fitness up ahead of the Australian Open. It looked like he got through the match okay so hopefully he will be right for the Australian Open, I'm not sure if he will be 100% fit but even at 80% Nadal is a tough person to beat.

Bad sign, it only shows that he is not fully recuperated and might need some time to heal this body. Again, he is not getting any younger, might be another reason why his body is slow to react to rehab or medicine. Might be good for him to take some time off and let his body healed 100%.

Off topic: Glad to see you back on Bitvest campaign.

Its a shame that we won't see a fully fit Nadal for the Australian Open and like you said he might need some more time to get to 100% fitness again. I believe you and I were talking about Nadal in September last year where we both thought that he should of taken the rest of the year off like Murray did but Nadal didn't and re-injured his knee in that tournament which now has set him back a little. Murray looks good from what I have seen in his matches so far but I also don't feel that he is 100% fit either. So Nadal does have a tough decision to make, play in the Australian Open where he isn't fully fit or not play and make sure he is 100% fit and healthy for the French Open.

Novak Djokovic may very well be the man to beat in the Australian Open as this is his most successful Grand Slam event. Or could this be the year we finally see the young talent rise to the top in Grand Slams. Alexander Zverev is racing against time to be fit for the Australian Open after a hamstring injury. Dominic Thiem hasn't been in the best form of late but could finally produce the goods at the Open or could we see the local chances in Alex de Minaur or Nick Kyrgios win the Australian Open? And lets not forget Federer, can he make it 7 Australian Grand Slam titles and make it a hat-trick of titles? Its going to be an interesting Grand Slam that's for sure.

I can promote your project on X to my 100k+ followers for a reasonable price. Just DM me for prices.

Yes, back then we know that something might blown up specially talking about the case of his body really taking its toll on him. Might be good to really skip this Australian Open and take his time to heal his body. Roger Federer already proved that it can be done and I'm sure that Nadal is looking at that option right now. Me neither, Andy Murray is not yet 100%, might be more of psychological issues though on his part so let's see.

Of course, Novak Djokovic will still be the man, but I know a lot of members will disagree. Most of them thinks that Novak is already old and can't go against the young talent in the roster. But we can't discount the possibility that maybe either Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic still have something to proved in this Australian Open.

Anyone is watching Struff v Statham. Who do you think is going to win? Struff is leading by 4-1 in the first set. May be he is going to break this game too. I am thinking to place a bet for bet for Struff for 2nd set. the rate is not bad. 2/9.

I thought Struff was going to break the 6th game because he was ahead 40-15 but Statham held the serve and won the game. Now I see he is serving again and Struff got the first point and the 2nd one too. May be he will break now. If he does then the 1st set score will be 6 - 2

Oh dude, you are so wrong.....maybe you need eyes check. Thiem is so limited player (limited to clay) he actually never stringed 3 wins versus Djokovic. It was probably your wet dream. Here is a proof: https://www.tennisexplorer.com/mutual/thiem-cd8bc/djokovic/

By saying limited I don't tend to insult anyone, especially pro tennis player like Thiem. I am saying that he has a tendency to camp 3 meters behind baseline on quicker surfaces (in that way he is very defensive and often on the back foot in rallies), also he sometimes tries to hit through with mighty blows which often ends with numerous unforced errors in the final stats). Go check it, do a little math, winner-ues ratio.

Struff already won 6-2 6-1. Struff will advanced and play 4th seed Pablo Carreno-Busta. So the Kiwi number one is out of the tournament. He was attempting to became the first Kiwi to reach the QF, but sadly the German was too much for Statham.

Yeah that made me $40  Grin I was betting for Struff  to win the 2nd set and it was an easy win for him. Statham did not have good time in the 2nd set it was less better than the first set.

Gilles Simon needed three tight sets to get past Sam Querrey, whose outstanding serving wasn’t quite enough. With 22 aces and 86% won on his first ball, the big man offered plenty of threat – but not so much on the big points. The wily Frenchman found a way around that serve disadvantage, landing a high percentage of first serves himself, and his shot selection and clever development of the rallies lured Querrey into mistakes. There was a huge gulf in understanding of patterns of play – when it came to tactics, Simon was playing chess, Querrey tiddlywinks. G. Simon 7/6 6/7 6/4.

I do not take the exhibition event into consideration. But yes it is only 2 times sorry. Djoko won rome. My bad

However you are right when saying he is kinda limited to clay.... so far. He can still evolve. Federer did too in his time.

Struff advanced to the quarter-final with a straight sets win over local wildcard Statham. The match could really have been very different for the German, who initially made a fairly slow start from the service line, facing multiple break points in his first two service games, but he improved and really left his opponent behind. Statham really burst into life from the very beginning, but it was the easy power that Struff could consistently generate off the first serve and mainly from his forehand wing, that really simplified the match for the German and guided him to a straightforward win in the end. Struff said after the match: "Yeah I'm very happy. It is always tough playing someone who is playing in front of their home crowd. He came out firing with passing shots, but I was very happy to win the first games and not let him get up a break and then I found rhythm and that was the key today." Struff 6/2 6/1

I still think that Federer and Djokovic are the ones to beat even though they are the veterans. Grand Slams is where it counts and still we are yet to see a young talent win a Grand Slam on the Men's side. 2019 could be the year but first I like to see how they all go in the Australian Open as we might get a fair idea on how they will perform through the year. Thiem I'm expecting to do much better on clay the on hard courts so he could be a dark horse for the French Open if he is playing well. I almost won on him last year but he couldn't get the job done against Nadal.

The Sydney International is looking good with most of the top seeds making it through to the quarter finals, my money is still on Alex de Minaur to win this event so lets see how he now goes up against his fellow country men Jordan Thompson. Tsitsipas takes on Seppi which should be a great match to watch, its going to be another interesting day of tennis.

Alarming situation in camps of Murray and A. Zverev, latest info: Murray won just two games in a practice match against world number one Novak Djokovic as part of his Australian Open preparations. The Scot, whose movement was laboured, held serve only once and was trailing 6-1 4-1 when they called it a day.

A. Zverev: "Alexander Zverev goes down hurt in his practice match against Marc Polmans. Tried to continue playing but ended the match two points later with some sort of foot injury." The German was already a questionmark due to a hamstring strain.

Match summary: Seppi used all that experience, to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas from a set down. Initially it looked as if the youngster might have just a bit too much firepower, notably on serve (15 aces), but Seppi found a better balance after that. More assertive now, he looked to exploit the Tsitsipas movement, dragging him side to side and testing his solidity – it worked perfectly, and the Italian was never to be broken again. “I don’t know why, but I always play my best tennis in Australia,” said Seppi. On the second set turnaround: “It was very important to start well in the 2nd, after losing a close 1st. It was good to have an early break, so I could play a little bit more aggressive, and it worked out in the end.” Seppi 26w 20ue; Tsitsipas 35w 50ue. Seppi 4/6 6/4 6/4!

considering conditions in Sydney: Millman on the slow night conditions, "I have grown up in Brisbane, obviously it's normally quite humid, especially in the summers, and with that humidity, it's quite conducive to heavy conditions. I always feel like can really hit out at the ball and really back my ball striking in those conditions and really swing through it. I'd much prefer heavier conditions than playing in the altitude, which I hate. Don't mind the heavy conditions."

Hey Andy was suffering from a hip injury which he had carried from last year, and even before coming he had stated he was feeling the pain it looks like he's going to pull out. I didn't see Zverev injury news but it'll be really sad if he's not fit for the tournament, I do hope he recovers in time. I feel if these two pull out,Djokovic will have a walk in the park with virtually no competition.

A. Zverev: "Alexander Zverev goes down hurt in his practice match against Marc Polmans. Tried to continue playing but ended the match two points later with some sort of foot injury." The German was already a questionmark due to a hamstring strain.

Too bad to hear about Andy Murray news though. I'm also a fan of this guy but it seems he can't really get off this year again. I don't know the extent of his injury might be worst than initially though. I'm still hoping he can come back like Novak Djokovic did last year, but with the latest news, I doubt that we can see high level tennis from him again.

Regarding Zverev, still young though, lots of good tennis ahead of him, I'm sure he can go back and be ready for the AO.

This is not the news us tennis fans were hoping for when it comes to Murray, its sad to see one of the greatest players of the last 10 years go through what he is going through right now. Maybe he needs to make the tough decision and give the Australia Open a miss and try and get fit and healthy for the French Open or take a longer time off and be ready for Wimbledon. I just hope this isn't the end of his career as it would be a sad way to go out.

I'm looking forward to the Sydney International semi finals today to see who will go through to the final. As most people know in here, I'm banking on Alex de Minaur to make it through but it won't be an easy task taking on Gilles Simon however de Minaur has had the easier run through so far so fatigue could play a part in this match.

I can promote your project on X to my 100k+ followers for a reasonable price. Just DM me for prices.

Simon is like one of the most unpredictable players on tour but yes Alex has better chance to win this .
On the other hand , yes I want Murray to be back too , he is a great guy and he deserves better end than this.
