As I have said to someone, it may be a good idea, looking through a long-term perspective.
I think if you look at the future of course everything would sound good idea. because many people are already predicting that the price of bitcoin will rise more than $ 1,000 in future Including me of course, I predict we can even surpass the amount you mentioned, that is very achievable even this year alone if the price will start to pump. It is right that we are talking about the future so we have a good idea on what to do in the present, all we need to do now is invest all we can afford to put. Price may even go above $1k in future, but only 1 btc will never make you rich, so its better to invest more in bitcoin to get higher profits in future. When is the future then ? Investment for long term is a bit risky imo, especially we don't know what happen to the bitcoin on the future, but for 1 bitcoin, it's okay for me. everything comes with a risk, but the whole point is, do you understand what the risk is, and are you willing to take it to achieve something? if yes, then go ahead and hold your coins for the long term. never blindly put money into something. this nearly always lead to you making losses. Exactly if you have faith in bitcoin then only you should invest in it or else you can quit any time and find the alternate way to make profits and on whom you can completely trust. |

But better you buy 0.1 btc and start trading , you can reach 1 btc in a few months if you're diligently to check and re-check about coins you had invested. |

- I'm using the example that BTC will be at least slightly bullish until 2017-08-21
- "X" = 10 or more
For me - No it is not a good long term investment to buy 1 BTC today, or any other day after Nov, 2013. That being said, again - for me, it is a good long term investment to purchase "X" amount of BTC. (Exhibit A) 1 BTC: If got a 100% gain on 1 BTC within 1 or 2 months. That would awesome (+$580 gain). (Probability low). More realistically though we might see a gain of 20-30% or so in that time frame (+$116 - $174 gain). At one year it is likely to grow %20 - %70 (+$116 - $406 gain). (Exhibit B) "X" BTC: If I got a 100% gain on this investment, incredible. But even with a mere 20% gain within the 1 year holding - would exceed Exhibit A at 100% gain. Pragmatically, you should weigh the dollar amount you have available to invest against the attainable gain % versus what you are looking to achieve. Personally, to buy 1 BTC on a long term hold doesn't make a good investment option for me.

If you bought 1 bitcoin when the price was still at $200, it would have given you more than a 100% return in just a few years. That is not a bad investment at all, considering that not many investments can give that much yield in a given period of time. Thinking long term should be what we are doing. Instead of panic selling whenever the price go down, we must just be patient and look at the price movement on a long term basis. Now that the price is still at below $600, I still consider it a good price to buy at.

not so good if you only invest 1 BTC for the long term. not at risk, but this investment will be futile, when the price of bitcoin increase in the future. do not worry when you believe bitcoin and put a lot of money for the future. |

How safe is it?
it is definitely really safe in my opinion, the price will most probably not going to be dropping any more so you would be able to make some good profit for just holding it in your wallet |
