This poor kid doesn't even have a chance to breathe.  Look I'm never big on guys over 7 foot and the hype they get because with the way the NBA is its hard for most of those guys bodies to last.  But it's one game in the summer league and he is what all of 18 or 19 years old.  He isn't gonna dominate the NBA this year everyone knows that. Scoot was always a better talent for the NBA today.  In the next 5-10 who knows but his game translates today vs a 7 foor 4 young kid.

What he should do is to be in the safe side while he is still a rookie because his body is not yet qualified to go head-to-head with the other bigs in the league because that will just give him an injury or probably worse than that. I know he doesn't want that and the whole franchise doesn't want it either, and we can see how careful they are on Wemby because he wasn't playing that much to avoid unnecessary outcome especially after Kai Jones dunked on Wemby and that wasn't a good picture to see.

I think Wemby is doing well on his first game. People is just putting him on a lot pressure due to the expectation even though we all knew that he is still Rookie despite of his no.1 draft pick title. Wemby has a good ball handling and shooting skills which is a good skill set for a 7 footer like him. His body might look fragile now but San Antonio is popular for a good player developer especially if the player has a potential. I’m not expecting a lot to Wemby on this summer league or even on NBA regular season.

But give him 2 or more years experience and training with Spurs then he will be a very good center. Spurs is known for scouting talent like Robinson and Duncan. I think they can develop Wemby properly since this is their chance to have another great player that will carry the franchise for another championship in the future.

It's just one game, and it has already shown how overrated he is. His poor shooting is very evident, and what will happen when the regular season starts? I think Wemby's season is not going to be easy. So for those who are thinking of betting on him to win the ROY (Rookie of the Year), I guess you have to think twice because thus far, he has not impressed us yet.

Yeah it's just one game, a summer league game, he has a lot of pressure being the greatest prospect next to LeBron and yeah he had a poor shooting night. However, if you look at his game, he actually made an impact both offensively and defensively. He just still needs to adapt to the game of NBA. I won't say he's overrated, because he had shown us his ability is one of a kind for 7 foot guy. I can't wait for the regular season and see if he really lives up to the hype, If he can win the ROTY. But I know he will eventually become better and better. He already have the skill and he only needs to develop, hopefully without a major injury he'll be a future hall of famer.

He is too hyped, but in reality, there's no player in the NBA who is over 7 ft in height that is very dominant, especially with a build like Wemby's. I guess he needs to improve his physique because his height alone is not enough to win. This is the league for the big boys, and he has to understand that. I suppose the Spurs see something special in Wemby because they can develop him, without expecting him to be great in his first season.
Since there has been no player to be called a real superstar in recent years, the nba management has started to advertise some players exaggeratedly. That's the thing about this guy in my opinion. The nba management started to broadcast this guy's games. He did interviews every day. Because they advertised so much some people started to call him alien and stuff. So unnecessary. This guy is actually number 5, his shooting is weak, ball control is average, but he is a tall player. So what sets this man apart from other tall people? Being tall. People can see that his shot is getting out of his hand very slowly. So he is not a sharp shooter. His ball control is very good. I'm really curious what he's going to do, he'll be unstoppable or something. There are plenty of these guys similar to him in the league already; evan mobley, lauri markannen, porzingis, ayton, embiid etc.

It could be, but remember that all #1 picks, or even #2-#3 are expected to play that good even in exhibitions matches. Just like what Chet experience, then he got injured. Same with Paolo Banchero last year, as I remember.

I reading comments though about Wemby's performance like he was being compare to Gobert with the green light to shoot, Lol. I don't think there is comparison with Rudy though.

But give him 2 or more years experience and training with Spurs then he will be a very good center. Spurs is known for scouting talent like Robinson and Duncan. 2 years is more than enough. For me it should be just around a year's transformation and he should see a vastly improved Wemby. But I do agree, their #1 picks in the last includes Robinson and Duncan and this two brought them a dynasty in the 2000's (together with other players).

This is his first game, and I'm sure they are not so serious with the summer league so it's better not to go all out and stay free from any injury. I'm not a fan though but the hype is too much and can put too much pressure to the kid. Maybe they should stop doing this and just focus on making Wemby more fit for NBA because we all know this is a physical game and too bad if Wemby can't handle such action from other players. Thad kid has a bright future, let's just enjoy watching his game.

It was pretty clear that this was going to happen if you'd been watching Wemby play up until now.  He was constantly dominated when faced with a big body.  He is nowhere near NBA ready.  Given his size and young age, the Spurs would probably be smart to not let him play for a couple years as he sits in the weight room strengthening his legs.  That's the only way he's going to make an impact in the NBA.  I actually think Bol Bol is a better player.  There was WAY too much hype around him and I don't think this is a one game fluke.

The good thing about Wemby being picked by San Antonio is that the team is proven to have developed even players that were drafted late and turned them into big stars. And there's also the legendary Tim Duncan and David Robinson.

Honestly, I am not even surprised by Wemby's first game in the Summer League. And even this coming NBA season, there is also a big chance that he won't win the Roy. Wemby is just 19 and his body is not yet matured. The potential though is too high that is why he is hyped a lot.

And because everything in the feeds and headlines about basketball is nearly all focused on Wemby, many are not talking about his potential rival Chet Holmgren of OKC playing today against Dallas. It is already in the 4th quarter and OKC is leading by a huge 14 points. Chet so far played 23 minutes and is 5/10 with 14 points while grabbing 9 rebounds.

And for this Ben Simmons, when he was still in Philly, he signed a massive 5-year deal worth $177 Million and by now, he already have 2 seasons left to play and with what he is acting recently, I don't think that there would be any team in the league right now that will get him from the free agency and sign with him.

Ben Simmons had a lot of potential a couple of seasons ago, but it's clearly gone now. In fact, he ruined his career in the NBA by doing those ill-considered things himself. Honestly, I'm also inclined to think that once his current contract expires, he'll likely either end his NBA career or he'll only be able to hope for a minimum contract.

It's all his fault if no teams are going to pick him up in the next coming seasons. I do agree that he was one of those young talents in the league early as he was even compare to Lebron. But damn, he can't should the ball at the free throw lines, that should be basic for any player. And then he lost confidence as he just opted to pass because he was afraid that he will be fouled and get to the FT line to shot and missed. Then he acted diva with Philly, shipped to the Nets and didn't play that good either. So yeah, after his contract and all that money, he could be gone for good from NBA.

Ben Simmons clearly will become a very bad player, even one maybe teams do not want to sign anymore, he was a good defender but he doesn't even show that. Every single off season he shows how "ready" he is and when the season starts he ends up "injured" which I do not even believe anymore and that ends up with a lot of trouble.

So in the end, we should not be really expecting him to do anything good, he is going to end up with a lot of trouble and have a terrible season and he is not going to be finding any place for himself in the NBA within just a few seasons for sure. Sad of course, because he looked like a good player that had a lot of potential, like he had that defensive capabilities and rebounding and passing, which is all that you need from a player if you already had a scorer.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich’s new five-year deal is worth more than $80 million, sources tell ESPN. His deal resets the coaching market after Monty Williams’ recent six-year, $78.5 million deal with Detroit.

It's Pops so he is worth it. If he can repeat what he did to Tim Duncan for Victor Wembanyama then I bet the Spurs will go back to not missing the playoffs anymore until Victor is there.
I bet a lot of Spurs fans here are super happy with this deal because it also includes that Victor will be in safe hands. Changing a coach might not get them anywhere, but I believe Pops will be the best partner for that kid for discipline and polishing his talent.
Now, I think it will also depend on the Spurs' management with how they will surround him with good players. They traded some of the best like Derrick White of the Celtics and DeJounte Murray of the Atlanta Hawks. It's time to find players that will make Wemby better. They cannot stick with their young roster anymore, they might need another veteran perspective. Duncan had Robinson before who made him better by watching him play.

The hype before the draft and the expectation are the two things the could put him under a lot of pressure for the season, I however don't expect him to fold under the pressure, He only looks fragile because of his height but he's got some weight actually at 95kg, for his stature at age 19, he's still got a whole career of ahead him so, I'm sure he's going to be a good force for the Spurs roster, and once the regular season start, there will be a different approach to how the coach will adjust his duties so as to suit the team needs generally, Wembanyama just need to keep a cool head, not force plays and be a team player first.

My dark horse for this season would be the Houston Rockets, I think they're looking like the real deal for a team filled with young stars, the addition of Dillion Brooks and Fred VanVleet will surely bring a new chemistry to the franchise, and the likes of Kevin Porter Jr, Jalen Green, Jabari Smith, Alperun and Eason had a good season despite Houston finishing as the 2nd worse team in the league.

He got the ‘Biggest talent/prospect ever’ shouts and all of that hype for him to drop an absolute stinker in his debut. It was the first time we had the regular season MVP, the finals MVP and the Number 1 draft pick all together to born, outside the United States. All of that ‘New Jokic’ hype for him to look like a shadow of bol bol. I have got lots of expectations, and I don’t think he’s going to have a great rookie year. I see Scoot Anderson hitting the ground running at Portland and also making better impression.

Yeah, probably this is one they re-sign him for that big money. I mean he could be thinking of retiring for good, however, with the number 1 draft pick going to them and it turns out to be Wemby, then maybe we can see some spark in coach Pop eyes and says that he can still make a good run with this new guy as he had done it before with David Robinson first and then Tim Duncan. So good to hear that for the Spurs and coach Pop indeed. Work your magic as you have the blue print already to turn the number 1 draft pick to be one of the biggest superstar in the NBA.

I think it is eventually him not being able to perform well because of confidence. Or I think I should say lack of confidence. He obviously had a lot of potential. But people put too much responsibility and also expected a lot from him. He just could not handle the pressure. Being compared with LeBron James is obviously a big thing for any player. Obviously, that is going to constantly ring a bell in his mind that he has to perform better than others. And he talked about it a little too much. Anyway, his future does not look so bright at this moment, to be honest.

If he is really that good as advertised, then he can thrived with all the media attention, just like Lebron. But if he is just an ordinary kid which happen to be just tall and his style of play is only good in amateurs, then maybe he won't last in the league.

So let's see, for sure he is in good hands with Spurs specially with coach Pop, and maybe he is not only being build outside, but from inside as well. To be though mentally so that he can endure all this attention that he is getting.

I honestly don’t think that he will be able to live up to their expectations. If he is in really good form then probably he can perform well. But this is a mistake that they do with a lot of players. They just overhyped him and when he is not performing as expected people tend to absolutely forget about him.

I also agree. They will need another experienced player. With a good balance of youth and experience, they will be able to perform a lot better. A team actually cannot go very far by just having young players in the team or even by just having experienced players in the team. And if they continue with a young roster, they will find it hard to win matches in pressure situations.

If Wemby will have the same mentality as Timmy and David, he will be accompanied by natural talents,

imagine how Spurs build that winning team, right after the twin towers, together with all those role stars who bring them titles
and with Timmy and their own versions of big 3, Parker, Ginobli and Him.

Coach Pop is the right person for Wemby, I believe that the blueprint will continue as long as the players are willing to
bring all the best that they've got.

Any idea who will be this new Robinson for Wemby that's available in the market? Traditional centers are being push out of the market and versatile centers or even power forwards are still few. I cannot think of anyone other than to be honest.

An exciting team to watch for sure. I'm looking forward to how they will disrupt the West next season.

They already signed Pop Greg in a multi-year contract looks like they gonna work well to improve Wemby with him and get back those championships in the near future. It's alright when he didn't get big numbers in his first summer league game they are just protecting him to not get some creepy injury that will gonna cost them much if ever that happened. because skills in the NBA cannot be adopted fast by just putting the player on the court no matter how good he is and since he was the main topic of the Summer league I'm sure every player was expected to play hard against him to steal the spotlight.

Wemby is fortunate to have the opportunity to play with the Spurs because, knowing Coach Pop, he is a great mentor and will do everything to prepare a player. Maybe Wemby doesn't currently possess the necessary strength to dominate, but that can be worked out. What matters is that he has the skills and, most importantly, the height because, as they say, height is might.
