i don't believe that a 390 can mine at that rate, i need to see this with my eye, i doubt a 280w card can be downvolted to consume only 167w while maintaining its full hashrate basically
i smell bullshit, at 27 it would be still at 220w, so no it's not better than a 970

I personally would want the 970 instead if it's close on MH/watt 'cause it's more capable overall - but at this point I don't want either card at current new pricing.
I find my $80 HD7870 is a lot more likely to pay itself off before Ethereum becomes unprofitable (yeah, it is used but that's not an uncommon price to find those cards at).
I expect the 1070 at close to recent 970 pricing will have a lot better pefromance on things I want to do AFTER Ethereum becomes unprofitable (though if 970 price starts diving enough I might not wait for the 1070).

It can. All it takes is to install AB, drag volt slider all the way to the left to -100mV. Overclock core to 1100+ and you have 30-31MH with 220-230w, if you want to save more power just underclock it to desired level. 280w can be done with 30MH eth + 0.8GH dcr.

It can. All it takes is to install AB, drag volt slider all the way to the left to -100mV. Overclock core to 1100+ and you have 30-31MH with 220-230w, if you want to save more power just underclock it to desired level. 280w can be done with 30MH eth + 0.8GH dcr. if 30MH at 220 is true, then at 27MH should be 200w not 167w and around 25MH at 180w and 23MH at 162w etc..., the ratio does not change, unless we are talking about heavy bios mod or soemthing like for the nano because of this i'm not believing it until someone take a screen for the hash and the wattage together

But at that voltage, you have to reduce the frequency as well.

P = V*V/R. If you reduce the voltage by 10%, the power consumption reduce by 20%.

The power consumption is linearly proportional to the frequency, so if the voltage reduce by 20%, frequency reduce by 10%, the power consumption reduce by 50%, but the hash rate reduce by 10%.

why? i also have the 970 and i think it's a great card for etheruem it match any amd card out there, and now you can find it for $230 on the web, very cheap

Can you try to lower the voltage to -200 mV with Trixx and the frequency to 960 MHz? It could be much lower. My test rig with W7 and really outdated hardware has some issues with Trixx so I can't test it. BTW, for 20MH you only need 700-750 for core so you need to underclock it like 30-35% to get down to 970 performance levels.

Nice price increase, almost a 50% gain or more depending how you look at it. But the farms have continued to increase capacity ( or a new one going online), saw hash jump up 200 gh above normal levels tonight. That would be the equivalent of 7'400 R9 390's going online or the total hash rate increasing 6.6%, pretty crazy when you think of it like that. We will easily be looking at a 500 gh increase this month, probably more. It seems 200 gh farms are becoming more common, being that I am beginning to notice spikes in that range when it does spike.

Very profitable to mine. Going 240 for power where available really drops electric cost as well.
240 vs 120 on most gold power supplies is only a 1-2% gain in efficiency. Not exactly a big drop in electric cost, though every bit can help sometimes. $1200 with good part selection would probably get you a rig doing 80-90 MH easily, with VERY carefull part selection on parts on sale might get you to 120 - assuming new parts and from-scratch build. Better to upgrade existing machines on a hahs/$ basis as much as possible. I expect GTX970 prices to collapse over the next month, as the GTX 1070 is due out June 10 and blows away the 970 hands-down for most usage - most of the benchmarks I've seen put the 1070 in Titan performance territory or a little higher. Now, if someone could get an ETH miner optimised to work WELL on the 1070....... Dropping the voltage by 10%, assuming no change in resistance, actually drops the power draw to 81% - but pretty close to that 20% quoted.

That is very concerning for us home miners. If the price goes back to 0.02 and the difficulty double, it is not profitable.

Ethereum mining is more profitable at this time, and probably will remain that way for at least a couple more months.
Mostly it comes down to what the price is at right now, and the slow difficulty cree p built into DAG file growth.
The big hit to many current Ethereum miners will happen when the DAG file gets too big for a 2 Gig GPU to be able to mine any more, assuming Ethereum is still profitable by then - on the plus side, folks with 3Gig+ cards should show a jump in profitability for a while after that.
Not a big deal to folks like Phil and I that are mostly or entirely mining on existing left-over-from-Litecoin (or left-over-from-X11 etc) hardware - it's just extra profit on hardware that was already paid for or mostly so while it still works. It's the folks spending $$$ on new gear that might never achieve ROI that are gonna hurt, though they should be able to recoup most of their losses or even end up profitable by selling off some of their used gear when it's no longer profitable.
(No, my 5 NVidia cards weren't left-overs - but I was in process of buying them ANYWAY, so they are kinda-sorta that way by my figuring. ALL of the rest of the hardware I'm mining on at this point except for an $80 HD 7870 were Litecoin/X11 left-overs that I was using in my DNet/GIMPS efforts, bought specifically FOR those efforts and have been re-purposed for a while).

If you under volt the R9 390 by -100mV, it will consume about 220-240W each, so for 4x390, 1250W is more than enough.
