Most people I have told about it are usually very excited at first, because I explain it like this.

It's money that you can easily get across borders
the government can't take it from you
the banks can't steal it
nobody can steal it if handled correctly

I even have an encrypted paper wallet that I give out to them with a couple bitcoins in it and show them how to check the public key. I tell them that they can keep it but that I'm not concerned they'll steal the contents due to the encryption.

Despite their interest none of them have actually purchased or mined any bitcoin. I work at a university so these people are from various parts of the world and can absolutely understand the importance of the things I mention.

Most people think about bitcoin around me is bitcoin illegal and abstract.

We know that bitcoin don't have physic form, that's why it's hard to explain. Especially with some people who don't really educate it.

But in time by time i believe people will consider to use bitcoin.

So, what do people around you (relatives, co-workers, co-ed, friends...) think about Bitcoin ? Please, indicate your country, so this way I'll be able to make a synthesis about what people think about Bitcoin.

For me : I come from France. My relatives think that it's criminals' tool and that since they can't touch money they don't trust it (note that those same persons are pro-banks, where you can't touch money). My friends think that it is useless and that it has no future. Both of them agree that scare them the most is the Bictoin's price volatibility.

So not so positive Undecided. I hope that you aren't in the same situation.
i dont have same situation with you, people around me always respect about what i'm doing, and so when i introduce bitcoin to them, they just know that bitcoin can traded with money, and they have not matter with that.

I would like to correct you on this, bitcoin do have a physical form , casascius coins were one good example (I think there are more but I don't know how its called). I also find it kinda hard to explain though Grin

Anyone I tell never understands Bitcoin. I even have a friend that thinks Bitcoin is illegal, how retarded is he. But I don't really tell anyone about it after an incident where my friend got really pissed off at me because I told him to buy Bitcoin and he sold for a really low price, lost his money and then blamed it on me.

You are just trying to help your friends by educating them about Bitcoin but unfortunately if they don't understand its value then surely they gonna regret it in the future but here my friends are very curious and more interested to learn about Bitcoin.

Nobody around me really cares. I've talked to some people about it, you know just casually mention something about bitcoin.

They just don't seem to be interested enough to ask more about it or find out more about it.

It is catching on and staying strong.  Think about it, it is now worth over 40 times more than what it started at and it keeps going up.  The more people who take it, the more it will be worth!!  Get everyone you know to accept Bitcoin!!

Some of my friends really love to use Bitcoin and some of them are the people that introduced me to Bitcoin. Some of my other friends really like to hate on Bitcoin, I just don't listen to what they have to say about it because I absolutely love it.

Very true. Pretty much al my co-workers have no idea what Bitcoin is, and if I ever try to explain it to them, they never seem to understand. So after a long time of trying hard, I have decided to stop.

Yes, when I too talk about bitcoin to some people, they are showing more interest till I talk about buying bitcoins. They are ready to work in faucet earning and joining this forum for knowledge gain.
Firstly we need to be selective on choosing a person to talk about bitcoin. He must be already familiar with at least one of the followings: internet/email/Paypal/internet banking.

Even if they heard about it they know bitcoin as a dirty money or money used by thiefs and other suspicious things, well stopping now will be maybe good but not good for the popularity of bitcoin.

Probably on a third world country, I also live on a third world country and on our province people were so primitive. They don't have any idea what a smartphone or a computer is. What more to internet and bitcoin Cheesy

I think when you're asking this question that you shouldn't just ask for what country people who are answering your question are from.  That is way too broad and you need to be able to narrow it down into what section or area in their country they are from, because there are simply way too many people with different opinions in a country.

Case in point:
I'm from the USA, but not just the US... I'm from the South where there are tendencies to be way more conservative in ideologies and on top of that, way more religious (Christian). The people I have come across that has heard of bitcoin tend to 1) not understand it; or 2) fear it.  They don't really take the time to learn about it, because it is so revolutionary and goes against the status quo, and since they tend to be more conservative, want to stay with what's the norm and believe that nothing can beat the Dollar because of the "'Mericca! Fuck yeah!" thinking people here tend to have.

People also fear it, because a lot of people that I have talked too have this belief that this is the sign of the "rapture" or "Armageddon".  If you don't understand or have read the bible before, there is the "book of revelations" that say one of the signs to tell Armageddon is around the corner is the establishment of a one world government and a one world currency, which obviously bitcoin looks to be that currency.  So I get people saying to me all the time that I'm supporting essentially Armageddon to happen, and that if I keep "going down this road" that I'm "going to hell".

So yeah, it's a little frustrating trying to talk to people about this kind of stuff here because of the lack of knowledge about what Bitcoin could bring to the table as an economic savior.
