that's dumb statement, bitcoin is a currency and currency can be used for anything if the user want, just like people do use dollar to buy drugs or anything illegal? its the same like  when you use btc,and about money laundering, its possible to be done through any currency, do you ever saw people buying a very simple painted canvas with only 2 colors like red and blue ? and they bought it for $5 million? do you think its normal or money laundering?

Lol! I like this vision of art!

the harsh part is that I'm totally convinced you're right.

But the difference is that btc value is still strongly influenced by its used in illegal domains in my opinion. Its price is really backed by the expenses of drug lords and terrorism xD

As long as one thing could be traded for another and has monetary value, it can be a used for illegal trades and such. Yes, it's true that bitcoin is being used on illegal activities, but that doesn't mean that its fiat counterpart don't have a share on this dirty work.

BTCitcoin has been used in the past for drug exchanges and there was even a movie made base on it (true story) IIRC. There are other illegal activities done for sure as well and yes it might have a negative effect as some people in the recent months stated some of them but the thing is, that's the case with any of kind of technology or object since if people give a certain value to it, then it could be used for any type of activity and illegal activities is also on the list (like in any type of traditional money) so it has been like this since start and it will be but as long as BTCitcoin is not used for any type of terrorism funding's then it's still above other traditional monetary systems in terms of having a better image (so far).

Bitcoin is used for more legal things than criminal activities in general. In every group you will find some bad apples and it is these people giving Bitcoin a bad reputation.

The criminal activities just attract a lot more attention than the good things that are done with it, because sensationalism sells more papers and draw more visitors to

websites. Just be part of the group of people who use Bitcoin for the legal things.  Wink

I wonder if the articles are really true or if this is some kind of organized propaganda against bitcoin. I'm sure there are a lot of people bothered by the fact that bitcoin can't be controlled.

I see more and more acrticles of bitcoin being used for illegal activities
will this hurt bitcoin in the long run , will governments ban this just like they started to do wih paying in cash for some services
to harden the use of illegal , and money laundering

Everything what is having value is used by criminals or for illegal activities.
Money gets laundered with banks for instance.
Hackers like to use PayPal for fraud for instance. As well they do credit card fraud.
Western Union and MoneyGram gets used by terrorists and small drug dealers.Way more they love to use cash for that.
And for sure Bitcoin can be used for all of those as well.
BUT the majority of people is doing normal payments and transactions with Bitcoin.

Governtment could ban Bitcoin or declare it as illegal. But that won't stop it.

I think yes people are already into bitcoins to take care of their illegal activities, maybe drugs and most of the people are using bitcoins for gambling too, and there are many countries in the  world in which gambling is considered as a illegal.

With Bitcoin there's more of an emphasis on its use for illegal activities and a big part of the news surrounding Bitcoin sadly focusses too much on that aspect.
Luckily we also see some more positive news from time to time.

Yes, of course bitcoin is used for lots of illegal activities, but this is the same case with fiat, metals and many other things that have some value that could be exchanged by other things, because actually the crime is not in the traded things by itself, but in the perverse intentions of criminal minds.

Difference is bitcoin price is probably still strongly backed by illegal activities.

Of course they're always people using fiat for illegal stuff, but first it's easier to track them and fiat value doesn't depend on that!

Everything is/can be used for illegal activities. That doesn't mean it's a bad thing. How about making illegal all baseball bats because there are people that are using them to hurt people not just to play baseball. It's ridiculous.

Every coin has two sides, positive and negative, it depends on an individual how he views it and how he use it, ofcourse criminals would surely use for their criminal activities, but the descent people would use it and accept it as a new technology.
